Awesome like fine wine better as they age a little. Does anyone have any idea when T.S will be in N.O. in the fall? planning a trip from Texas. Left N.O in 1963 miss the music so much.
It was a popular pop standard until Spike Jones took it apart in the early 1940's. This version is nice enough to resurrect it and more. Very good music. Thanks so much to Tuba Skinny.
No, read the caption in the first seven seconds of the video and read the description below the video. I always give the date of the recording. It is not the same date that the video is posted (usually.)
And his super talented grandaughter and her band play a beautiful version 66 years later. I'm sure Mr. Cohn is looking down from Jazz heaven proudly.......................
Many thanks, James. 'Chloe' is a 1927 song by Charles Daniels and Gus Kahn. It's an appealing 32-bar song and yet it is eerie. Though it is theoretically in the key of C, it uses a lot of C minor, D minor and G minor chords, so it feels like a minor-key tune. The words are odd too - about somebody hunting for Chloe in a swamp. Searching for a girl at night, through swamp lands, and going through smoke and flames? How on earth did this situation arise? Weird, isn't it? For example 'If it's wrong or right, I got to go where you are. I'll roam through the dismal swamp land searching for you, 'Cause if you are lost there, let me be there too. Through the smoke and flames, I got to go where you are...'. The word is that Royal St will be closed to traffic (again) later - I think May sometime.. A lot of us emailed the Mayor back in early April. after the cops closed them down claiming they blocked traffixc. (does it look like it???) LOL
@@frederickwise5238 It was closed to traffic again on April 26th after much protest with city hall. Busking was not allowed during FQF last week because stages were set up on Royal but should be back this week.
@@JamesSterling I wonder how much effect my Apr 6th email had. I have some contacts among truckers and I suggested to her that if Royal St wasnt made available to the groups I would speak to my contacts and since NO wasnt all that far off of I10 and there was a fgood chance we see if we could get a convoy to shut down more than a few New Orleans streets.
I wish to borrow this song instead of "The Swan Lake" melody which would mark the collapse of Putin as that tune marked the end of the August 1991 pro-communist coup' deta...We'll be happy.
Love this band! Love this song!

They usually return in October but start checking the schedule on their web site around August and September to be sure when.
👍 Good old song. Benny Goodman had a swinging version of this if you ever come across it.

The Al Cohn Quintet recorded this tune in 1956.

Think of the swamp as symbolic of some bad life situation
It is a very strange song - so much so that Spike Jones version is hardly stranger.
@@ykrgfk Agreed.
Classic Tuba Skinny 👍🏻

The cars need to go another way
This is a city street. The drivers and walkers have a right to be there.

Music is great! Is the bad on Royal street every day?
No, only occasionally.

Of course a great band, this tune was recorded by Shay’s grandfather Al Cohn.
