@mostlyqueenly Yes, but OBVIOUSLY if you're not manipulating it (especially detangling and restyling) you WILL retain length JUST BECAUSE you're not "traumatizing" it, so to speak. As such, this method would be far superior to one that requires constant brushing, combing, and manipulating to restyle all the time.

Girl, thanks for this vid. Long term protective styling is also my length retention strategy but without using extensions on my braids, I struggle with single strands knots. I think using water to hydrate might be the reason because I have an irregular curl pattern and water instantly takes away any stretch from my hair
The crown is my most difficult area of my hair. I generally will take a hot towel over the clusters to soften them, then, take them down using the towel to clean up any build up. And proceed as per your instructions. As I have had Alopecia issues in the crown area. My hair just snap off. I have to be extremely careful and gentle to that area of my hair. I also have to use more butters than to keep my hair moisturized . The crown just seems to be a desert 🏜. All the other areas flourishes, not sure why.
My hair is not full enuf for mini braids as of yet. I will revisit it in 4-6 months after I wear these 8 cornrows (4 on each side and they are all connected). I will not be full on washing them, but I will be utilizing witch hazel, acv spray or Seabreeze (using a soft white micro fiber cloth). I wear wigs minus glue so I will see where this journey takes me. My hair is pretty healthy (little past apl; not caught up on the length as thickness/density is my goal).
Gotcha! I understand, do what works for you! Also one thing that I incorporated into my routine that made my hair a lot thicker was lavender oil. It has worked wonders for my hair, hopefully it can do the same for you too when it comes to reaching your goal of thickness/density! :)

I am enjoying this mini/micro braids journey immensely! I will be wearing these til the end of Nov/Dec 2024. My hair was very very manageable during the shampooing process. I did not condition. When it dried enuf, I applied my peppermint/lavendar oil mix to my scalp and heavy shea butter mix on the ends (5 braided sections). I think I am on to something good Sis! Thank You for the motivation.
I been down that road with mini twists and mini braids. It's not for me any more. For me, even when I rebranded, at the final take down, so much shed hairs used to come out. Now I clear away shed hairs once to twice a week using chunky twists or chunky braids.
I get what you mean, this happens to me as well. I find that the reason why is because mini braids last longer, so most people have their hair in the braids for longer than two weeks which makes it seem as though more shed hair is coming out when you do the final take down, but it's essentially the same amount of shed hair that we naturally shed every day which is 80-100 hairs a day. So if that's the case, imagine how many shed hairs you'd have at the end of a month, or two, or three!!
Did you used the LCO or LOC methd when you used the protective style in your mini braids? Also did you do protein treatments every four to six weeks? I'm considering trying the mini braid method like you had done. I've been washing my hair every week for the past four months, as a result, the dryness has subsided considerably. Now I can wash it every two weeks with minimum dryness.
Hey Allison, I tend to use the LOB (Liquid Oil Butter) method loll! My hair specifically doesn't like conditioner, but loves butters and oils. I don't do protein treatments on my hair mainly because I tried it before and my hair absolutely hated it unfortunately. I do deep condition about once a month though. That's great that you wash your hair each week! It does help a lot with dryness. I used to wash my hair once a week but I've recently gotten a lot busier so I had to change my regimen to once every 2 weeks. I also have a video on how I usually take care of my mini braids during wash day. The routine is only about 60 minutes and I'm usually good for the whole week afterwards. Make them bigger and also take a break I was wearing many braids and I grew my hair out a lot but it's in my ends but my ends are back healthy I took a break from it now my hair is longer I'm able to wear it in juicy or twist the hair needs a break cuz when it's tension on the hair from braids with your natural hair or extensions it's not good

Yes you can put mini braids in hair extensions, I did that starting out and honestly got the best results during that time because my hair wasn't affected as much by the weather due to the protection of the extensions, but I'm not completely sure about the joining of 2 or 4 mini braids into one because I haven't tried it out before, but I believe it's possible.
I had 215 braids in total and I use water and this herbal oil mixture that I created for my hair. I use water to help get any shed hair out and oil to sometimes get some stubborn mini braids to unravel.
Yes it's normal, people in general usually shed 80-110 hairs a day so the accumulation over a month would seem to look like a lot. I get a lot of shed hair too when I rebraid my hair
9MONTHS???!!! Are you trying to lock your hair 😂 The max I do is one month. Terrible advice!!! My hair grows more than an inch in a month. I do a lot of treatments and scalp massages. And no it’s not genetics. Everyone in my house has short hair. I used to have short hair all my life till I started taking care of it

You must be new to this channel as the methods I use on my braids that I've shown before (and also in this video) is what keeps my hair from locking. Certain people tend to be shocked or confused when they come across this video for the first time, typically the ones who only watch certain parts of it. Congrats on learning about what works for you and your hair and learning how to grow it out! That's something that is always a joy to discover!
You should be canonised as a saint. There's no way on God's green earth am I installing mini braids on my head unless it's in wig form. I can barely deal with the 10 or 20 odd braid- twist combos. Cannot deal with the nightmar tangles and knots. No sirrr!!🫡

I'm gonna try this but when I washed my hair that way I had a lot of shedding. I just chopped my ends so I should be good.

Can you make regular hair extension braids on your mini braids? Like having to join 2 or 4 mini braids to make one extension braids?
