Visiting family and friends in South Africa has always been a challenge for me, particularly when it comes to adapting to the food. Being accustomed to highly processed foods here in England, the stark contrast in taste when consuming fresh, locally sourced food in South Africa can be quite striking. However, over time, your palate adjusts to the vibrant flavours. Interestingly, the reverse often occurs upon returning to England, where the food may then seem bland by comparison. It’s a fascinating reminder of how adaptable our taste buds are to different culinary environments.
