  • The boys are back from The Amelia, and now you get the recap on all that was amazing.

    The Amelia is one of the most prestigious Concours in America, but it's evolving more quickly than most - there was a whole 1990s JDM supercar section!
    And the same weekend, a Radwood, a Cars & Caffeine, a Porsche show, and The Hangar.
    Loads of great cars, even for Carmudgeons who aren't aged!

    I did think it odd that you guys interviewed Chrysler/Stellantis folks. I mean it was nice enough, but not your usual gig. Felt more like you were co-opted for a press event rather than a genuine interview though. Definitely felt the awkwardness. Also didn't change my mind about the quality of Chrysler products, so if that was their goal, they did not succeed.

    • @fraserwright9482
      @fraserwright9482 Месяц назад

      RUF was more like Alpina at BMW in the 80's. Look at a BTR, CTR or other early RUF cars up close and they were more based in Hotrod from the 70's or earlier. Shaving the gutters was a leadsled thing. Look at what everyone else was doing in the 80's in Germany, BB, Koenig, Gemballa, DP cars were all making your old 911 look like the new flatnose, 928, a Kremer race car or a Testarossa. This rather plain dated look even at the time was something your Dad would buy and reflects the staff at RUF. Look at the interior of an early RUF and it's no graphic equalisers or 928 seats. They even wrapped the roll cage in the old 911 white dotted fabric around cage so it blends into the a pillars instead of mounting the cage proud like a race car. This separation of styles is still present with Swiss, Austrians, Germans etc, huge money on getting interior upgraded in leathers and engine tuned. But debadged and outside looks like a base model.

    Speaking of Stellantis the outgoing Lancia Ypsilon was explicitly marketed to women and last year sold 40k units in Italy alone (while the whole Alfa Romeo brand sold 27k domestically)

    • @redlion145
      @redlion145 Месяц назад +2

      I think it's explicitly marketed to cheap Italian drivers period, rather than women. COL in Italy is sky high and it is relatively rare to see any luxury car, Italian or otherwise. Maybe Ypsilon buyers skew towards women, but it's more about how affordable the car is IMO.

    • @vercingetorige400
      @vercingetorige400 Месяц назад +1

      it definitely it was marketed to woman:all the special edition with clothing brands, but also was the cheapest way the get a econobox ( i.e. Panda ) with decent interior

    • @fraserwright9482
      @fraserwright9482 Месяц назад

      Jason answered his own argument, 68% of car buyers are women, the same percentage in the US of home ownership is that. His analogy of them failing was and I use this in a past tense as the example he used was in the 50's mad men era. I would turn it around the other way, which car that is aimed at only male drivers in 2024 is growing in market share? Even Harley Davidson has run out of old white men.

    I don’t have much classic car market knowledge. But in terms of new and used cars for the general public the market is at pre Covid levels. At least in the north east where my dealer is. We never charged above MSRP and that gave us so much business in the past few years because we were one of the few that didn’t put mark ups on cars. But now the market has changed, people are no longer happy to pay just MSRP, we are discounting new cars and the market is clearly falling.
