I got into the Ridge Racer series two months ago with 7 on the PlayStation 3. I'm loving the whole arcade experience as a whole, and I can't wait until I get my hands on Ridge Racer V for the PlayStation 2.
Now, if only Bandai Namco would announce Ridge Racer 8. It's been three years since it was revealed to be in the works.

Good video for an underappreciated series. You aren't missing much with 7 onwards though. 7 was just a rehash of 6 but on PS3. I used 6 to show off my, at the time, new HDTV after transitioning from CRT. It was just okay too. Pinnacle of the series is Type 4.

The very first game I bought for my PSX back in 1995 was Ridge Racer and I was absolutely amazed by its graphics, techno sound track and gameplay.
My last RR was the RR4 and after that I never played any RR saga games.

I've touched both R4 and RR5 and In my opinion, the mechanics and physics in RR5 feels much tighter and refined than R4. The handling feels weighty and extremely responsive with any mistakes being a fault of my own. I think RR5 finds the perfect balance between the clunky feel of older games and the "slot car" drifting from anything after RR6.

There is a Namco Heritage Bundle that had Tekken 1 and Ridge Racer Type 4. I'll start the franchise from there.

Of course it never would happen but I would love to have seen what Daytona could've looked like on the PS1. A Daytona that wasn't on such poorly designed 3D hardware.

I disagree, to me Rage Racer is the best game in the series. I love all the height differences, it really makes a difference to get a new engine, so the car can get up the hill much faster.
But different people, different tastes 🙃
