I used to give Jerry and Stephen the benefit of the doubt, but I am becoming increasingly convinced that they are in over their heads in the present day NFL. If they hadn't insisted on keeping Tank, Lee, and others past their prime, they wouldn't be in this mess.
Yeah, there are a lot more players that you could add to that list, but your point is well taken. They tend to invest to heavily in some players instead of just moving on.

The Jones family is committing “football malpractice”.
If the Belichick rumor is true, the way the Cowboys have behaved leading up to this draft makes perfect sense. They are dumping a QB who has under achieved, let his cap hit happen now, let free agent players go that would have eaten cap room, and draft core players to begin a rebuild/reshape.
In other words, they are priming the roster for Belichick NEXT season, giving him as much cap room as possible, while not handcuffing him with unneeded long term contracts.

I agree with you 100% fish. You must be able to sign free agents you must be able to train and develop and you must be able to try and get around the cap to make a Super bowl team and we just have not done that well.

As a longtime Cowboys fan. I am hoping we draft well. And get players that can compete and help us. That is are only hope. The Jones's do things there way. We have to live with this.
Maybe Jerry should call up the Rams GM for advice. They went all in and won a SB.
They are stressing what has not worked, talented team as media always promoted. Now you have 3 players to pay big money so play whats on the roster. Other teams have had to go down the depth chart to get better understanding of what you have, it may not translate into wins, but here you are. No playoff wins and 36 regular season wins translate into nothing , so just throw something at the wall and see if it sticks. If not you reset for 2025, with or without Dak.

Sounded like jerry isnt sold on some players, they want to see the players put it out there will they play, Zeke didnt earn his money, Dak only played well last year, too many players under-perform after they get that big check. Jerry is mad at this team after three years of 12&5 with nothing to show for it, players didnt show up in big games, why would he want to pay them? Qinn basically hung the defense out to dry then left before thr fallout, he might have gotten fired after that playoff loss. So i dont think Jerry is wrong he is re-evaluating everything and everbofy. And with so many holes on both offensive and defensive line, he is considering options. Remember allot of those teams spending hundreds of millions of dollars will probably not be anybetter this year then last year. Fans are upset becuase we dont know what jerry is thinking or what his plan is....options.
I agree that we shouldnt get excited about john stevens jr just yet. But talking about Overshown being able to come in and improve this team is fair. Its just like we are talking about any of these draft picks coming in and improving the team. Overshown had a real chance to win a starting linbacker spot. Maybe just based on the fact that we only have linebackers on the damn roster.
I wonder if Jerry owned the team in the 60's if he would have gone "all in" and NOT won a SB in the 70's.

Jerry "confirmed" last year they were interested in certain positions that weren't addressed at all. Jerry loves to throw all sorts of things out, just to keep the team in the press.

They all but admitted out right they made mistakes on his contracts due to being scared cause of being burnt by Zeek. He'll Jerry called out he entire media room. Cause they thought at the time, "Pay Zeek, you need him to win."
Then, after Zeek failed to live up to it, everyone blamed them for paying him.
BPA is why they drafted Scoon... which is why his ass is on the bench and the team has gaping holes that could've been field in the 2nd rd last year. 1-3 rds should start or really contribute unless ur KC/SF everyone else needs immediate help
Schoonmaker was NOT a BPA pick. He was viewed anywhere between a 3rd and 6th round talent by alot of scouts. We reached on Schoon because this FO wasn't yet sold on Ferguson and desperately wanted another TE in the building. They were zeroing in on TEs Kincaid in the 1st or LaPorta in the 2nd and when there was a run on TEs before their 2nd round selection Dallas panicked and reached for Schoon.
@@jona181 and Mazi....I blame Stephen for this crap. Ferg/Hendershot made so many plays that it was no need to attempt to resign Dalton. However it was an outstanding TE class, but we missed it. We desperately needed OL help last year. This FO is dumb. Look at the team needs last season vs this season

fish I think with John Stevens the Cowboys might have liked him enough that felt that he was better than their fourth and 5th tight ends and maybe move him up to a third tight end. So maybe they feel he could make an impact this year healthy.

Dak is just not worth adding to the salary cap. Eventually all his salary has to be counted in. Even if its in 4-5 years. Really the best is a rookie deal qb.
Fish, they need to make some changes like they’re doing. They’re not winning Super Bowls. They’re just barely getting to the playoffs. Things aren’t getting any better. You have to change it philosophy they’re never gonna beat the 49ers with that team.

I would rather have a team like GB who fights for and is a playoff contender. Cowboys aren't disciplined. they always have too many penalties and play scared against elite teams. They need to be able to beat the 49ers to even show they are a contender.

Let's get down to business one out of the big three will get traded at least one. If we trade Dak and get get a future first-round and a first-round a second and third just off his trade. Can we find a real number one draft pick in this draft that we can't find in later round? I will trade back both of my first round draft pick for good second round draft picks so you know I may have five second round draft pick. In then draft we should rebuild our offensive line we should at least get three to four offensive line at least two in the fourth round maybe one in a second. If I see a OT well I don't think can play OT I will put him at the guard position I will be picking the best of the old line. We will get Texas linebacker maybe they DT or the best we can get. Let Trey Lance be the starter quarterback if he do bad we can resign him as a backup for cheap our real quarterback is Deion Sanders son next year that's why we rebuilding the offensive line yes we will get Jerry Rice son too an Wisconsin running back or Alabama running back. 04-23-24
