Im really curious, what the tensile strength of his tendons is. Doing some simple math, the main tendon in the knee was pulling over 1 ton in the last test (assuming a 1:10ish ratio between where the tendon is pulling the lower leg and where the sensor was attached to) And I think one of the biggest factors of how strong someone can get is the intake of energy to supply all those muscles and keep em trained. Everybody knows that, laying in the bed for a week or more and you loose a sh**load of muscle-mass. And we also know, Eddi is already eating 20 megacalories a day! He spends hours on end every days just to get all those calories in a constant rate in so that his bowel can digest it.
The guy who set the equipped bench record said he could feel his bones bending when he did it. So bones are definitely the limiting factor once you get to these strength levels.
Yeah people think weightlifting does bone changes, doesn't. Scan a pacific islander that's never worked out and they have bigger bones than eddie hall.

Would be interesting to see the tendons on an elite level armwrestler, where the strenght is highly specialized. They generate very high stress and load in a very unnatural direction, many whom condition cartilage/bone and tendons to the point where they lose the natural mobility of joints, especially around the elbow. Anyway good stuff, nice video.
Like the Dr. said in the video, the tendon size is not proportional to muscle size; that's why I wrote my comment. It would be interesting to see if the tendon size is much bigger for an athlete like an arm wrestler because of long-term accumulated tendon damage. In such a case, muscle strength would not be the main focus. But hey, you don't have to watch such a video if they would make one, my internet friend. Watch what is fun for you .
This was super interesting man, I love it when sports meets science! Also, Eddie has gotten so strong he has officially reached scientific study subject level XD Talk about strength goals.
@@nia.d33 There's actually a really cool reason for that! As your muscles get stronger they pull on tendons harder, which stresses the bone more. Your bones repair themselves and fill in any micro fractures just like muscles do when you work out. Your bones adapt to your own strength, getting larger as you get stronger!
@@Dappersworth Well, I suppose I should have specified that they don't get larger overall, but the actual connection points themselves do physically increase in side to handle the load. I've read of sprinters having essentially bumps on their leg bones where their tendons connect from all the stresses from such powerful muscles.

You can do something similar with a short lift from a safety rack. I did 500 kg at the top, while doing full deadlift at 285kg. But reverse grip it was, less pressure on trapezius area I guess.
they should make something like in All Star Superman. It was like one of those crushing machines that measured how much force he could withstand. So lets say Eddie Hall claims he can deadlift 750lbs, set the machine to that level of deadweight and have it exert that much force and see if Eddie can prevent it from pushing down. And it has to move slow to, not just "go" and it hits the floor. That way if the person struggles to hold it, they got plenty of time to drop to the floor and roll away, or simply step down.
