This Cort Artisan series basses (A, B, C) sound way better than most of the more popular Ibanez SR basses that I've hear. Way better to my ears (Ibanez users feel free to point me to any demos of SR basses that you like).
Coming to this late, but this is the way to demo a bass. Not trying to impress with your technique (although you obviously know what you're doing), playing simple lines, keeping slapping to a minimum, letting the strings ring so one can hear the tone and playing all over the neck. Spot on and a great bass. I've just ordered one - they're on close out for less than £500 now, which is amazing value. Btw, the top load option on the bridge is for flat wounds, which you should ideally top load as they don't like being bent through sharp angles that running them through the body causes.
Thanks a lot Laurie! I always try to keep in mind that my job in these videos isn't to impress with my playing, it's to demonstrate what the basses sounds like. It'd be pretty hard for people to hear the little tonal nuances if I was playing a blazing 350bpm slap riff! I apologise for taking a month to reply to your comment, but I'm assuming you have it now? How are you finding it?
@@helloitsnicko I like it. Still getting my head around the extra range (40+ years of playing a 4) and remembering to damp the low B to stop it rumbling. It's very playable and sounds good with a set of EB Cobalt Flats. All the best.
Tried that one in the shop a while ago, the Artisan is a brilliant line of bass from Cort, although i will say, the Custom SP version of this bass is another step up in level (i ended up buying the Custum SP instead!). It has a much fuller, rounder tone and a more solid neck! great demo of a great bass btw!
That sounds awesome, I'd love to have a go on one of those! I still really want one of these basses, haha. They're such good all-rounders. And hey thanks for the kind words!
You could get a luthier or tech to convert it for you- it usually costs as much if not less than a setup. Plus they have set it up after the conversion to make sure it works
hello, very good demo. I have an A5Z that is the same in almost everything. I had the problem of the cut of the string D in the bridge. Solve this by placing it at the top so that it has a less cutting angle. The tone of this bass is unmatched in that price range.
Have you made a comparison video on Cort B5 Vs Cort A5 Custom 20TH Anniversary? I own a Cort B5 with MK-1 Electronics EQ. and I am thinking to upgrade actual Bartolini MK1 Pickups to MK5 CBC Pickups , Could this better the versatility, punch, deepness and clearness of the whole sound of my bass? A very precise and fine video. Thank you.
Late, but i'd use a slight bass boost, cut the mids a bit, and adjust your treble/highs to make the 'pop' even in volume to the thumb. At max treble it will nearly always be louder imo
BedroomBassist thanks for reply! I will probably get one, seems like a perfect combo for me. Still hesitating though - there is no way to switch off the piezzo tweater.
If you decide to buy, make sure you listen for a humming sound from the tweeter. These combos are known for this fault, and I just returned mine for a repair for that exact reason.
Aleksander Skårnes thanks for reply! Do you have any records of what that sound of broken tweeter is? Finally I got a second hand 151 cab with a separate head but anyway it is good to know what the tweeter malfunction sounds like ;)
So, you all are saying, that, the switch is "not" a true passive/active switch? It has to have a battery power at all times? If that's true, then, the specification details are misleading and should be revised. As it is now, one would think if your battery dies, you can flip the switch to passive and keep going, until you can replace it. I'm just saying!!
If it is anything like Jeff Berlin Cort (amazing) I have, it will perform well beyond what the price range would suggest. I saw your MarloweDK vid and cool to see it went to a good home:)
Stringing through the body should have more tension. If you want to see the difference pull the B string out of the body and top load it the normal way. Let us know what you think.
I would have loved to conduct a test like that but the bass has been sold! Agreed though - it *should* have more tension. The low notes definitely felt stronger than a lot of other 5 string basses.
My humble observation... Stringing through the body as opposed to the bridge will make absolutely zero difference to the tension in the strings. Why? Because your scale remains the same, therefore, for your bass to be in tune, the tension in the strings need to be exactly the same. Doesn't take an engineer to work that out, though I am one in training. 😉
Once I barely buy an ibanez sr 505 with mk1 bartolini pu. Most say it sounds a bit crappy. Those pu are not bartolini. Instead bartolini sold the licence to put the Brand on a almost generic pups. Mk5 are another story. Cort a5 custom z has Those and it sound fantástic
Great Review.. But.... I hear the rinkling of the MP3 compression in the low tones. Which makes it quite annoying since the bass is what the review is about.. I use very sensitive high end speakers but maybe you can upload your future videos with a higher bitrate audio.
In terms of quality you can't go wrong with either, Christian! They're both very versatile too, and both play really well. The Yamaha has a bigger body, and if I had to guess I'd say it's probably heavier too. You have a tricky decision on your hands!
@@biancavanreenen2822 thanks. I have a very nice jazz bass signature but I'm looking for a lightweight bass to complement it as it is way too heavy sometimes. Seems like this one will not do the trick then 😋.
Yeah I think that's how it makes the difference - going through the body makes the break angle more extreme. EXTREEEEEME! Seriously good B string on this Cort. :)
Did you see any differences between Indonesian and Korean? Building quality or hardwares... Thank you for response, i always follow your vids because they are pro and honest. Thanks.
Thanks again! As far as I am aware, they're the same. I've tried quite a few Cort basses now and they've all been great, and I don't think they've all been made in one place. So like I said, I *think* they're all the same quality.
My DIY debut album 'NICKO_1' is OUT NOW!
It would mean the world to me if you gave it a spin. Thank you.

Incredible value for money. The Indonesian instrument production scene and music scene is friggin really taking off and props to them!
I bought this today! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
Have one, love it.
About time!! Someone who can actually play a great demo of an instrument!! Thanks.

I own a c6 and I agree with you
awesome sounding bass
Yeah, I was actually a little disappointed when it sold... I don't get to play it in the shop anymore!
this bass is fully active. the switch let's you select active with EQ or active without EQ. otherwise, cool bass. I have one myself
ApoNiLolo Devo so it doesn't work without a battery?? There is no passive for this bass??
moonjo kim The bass has an active/passive switch..
It is only skipping EQ
@@sheldongeorge6953 I have this bass. Its not a true active/passive bypass switch. It will not work without a 9V battery
I have an A5 from 2009. It doesn’t work with an empty battery.

A5 sp has bartolini mk5 which are really great pups. Mk1 are not
If they'd make a fretless version of this, I'd be sold.

Which Is better
This bass or sr505 ? Both of them have bartolini
Which one you recommend
Hey Nick, can you compare between the bartolini preamp on this bass and the markbass preamp on the Artisan B series of cort
Great review!
Thanks so much!

MOHAN DHAS what equipment do you use?

Anyone has tried the A6 one, is it the same song ? I feel like it does not sounds the same
How does this combo do with the low B string? Should I rather get this one or cmd 151? I don't play loud, rather jazzy
+Tomasz Ziajko Sounds great!! They have a disturbing amount of power for their size and weight... no problem with the lowest of the low notes.

Tomasz Ziajko Sorry, don't have a recording of it, but it is that classic electric noise. Almost like white noise.

Nice bass. My Sandberg vm5 has similar low b qualities that you described. Albeit quite a bit more money.
+gingaleanda That's cool! I own two Sandbergs but neither of them are 5 strings so I can't comment either way. :) This bass is lovely though yeah...

How can you compare this to the cort c4?
How can I get this tone?
Why is there a noise behind?
This one or Ibanez SR1206 Premium?
In the theory the ibanez is better but in sound and build is the same quality
I cant decide... cort a6 or yamaha trb 1006?

Jean V as an owner of one myself, very heavy

Fairly confident it was just one 9v battery 🤔🙂

You should put it against sire v7, about the same price... I'm not shure who will win!
