- The new Asus Vivobook S15 is a Snapdragon X Elite Laptop that promises 18hrs of video playback. So I figured I test the performance and battery life on a 12hr+ from Tokyo to Toronto: without charging. This was a real world test to see how much movies and shows I could watch on the flight and how long will the battery last. will it come close to the 18hrs stated at Computex.

Gotta watch out for your lens, there's some dirt/spots right there
I was rubbing my phone screen like mad and thought my new s24 had bad pixels 😂
I thought there were pubes on my screen for a sec there.
@@sdmods619 dude 😁😁
i noticed it and thought that my screen had a dead pixel 😂😂
shut up
this is actually a useful practical application of laptop's battery life
Awesome this is the kind of review that i was waiting for non scientific or productivity testing just moving about the whole day without needing to charge.
I'm looking forward to your gaming tests!
I couldn't even make it on a 6 hour flight working on my i7 HP "elite book". It died with almost 2 hours left on the flight. The work wasn't video editing or anything crazy, just office, some VSCode, and music.
This looks extremely impressive.
Great video man.
Looking forward to the full review, I am thinking of buying this laptop for video editing and college. What is your opinion on it.
Snapdragon X Elite ❤Windows arm
You said 78 instead of 7 - 8
4:04
"seven to eight" ....
78 episodes of shows! That’s a good battery (and a long flight)! 😂
Lol meant to be 7-8
Great to hear about the great battery and standby time. Now if x86 emulation holds up then this is a great start. Hopefully they release fanless versions down the road as this is my favorite part of my M1 Air.
It is good , 10-12% performance lost over native arm
@@yuvrajsingh099 and 0% performance lost with a Mac
@@ArthropodSpidey It will get better with more optimization. Roseatta started pretty ruff.
Well no explanation to Isheep, since it's announcement they always try to shame it to justify the money they spent on expensive tech.
Thank you for sharing expirience!
Is screen too reflective? I use now laptop with matt screen and I am scared of reflective screen..
This is what you call the future of man. Literally what you would say “always in techonology”
🔥
I'm wandering how well it would do on windows battery saver mode without turning down brightness. On intels it switches to e cores and throttles as well as turns off unnecessary services but it's not something noticeable on videos and office tool, so I wonder how it does on arm. I expect 10 to 20% battery improvement
Snapdragon X Elite 🚀 🚀 🚀
How many hours can you get to gaming on it
Hey mate, how was the fan noise compared to x86 laptops?
Very low, almost not audible... see Dave2D review...
Snapdragon X ❤❤❤
How this laptop is for web Developers?
Does AutoCAD, montage programs, and SketchUp work on this processor?
If you find an answer for your question, could u tag me? I want to learn if its useful to use autocad and other engineering apps.
Snapdragon X Elite ❤❤❤
damn that's near double the screen on time then Intel Core Ultra varient
Can it handle resident evil 8?
Can it be undervolted to have better battery life?
I imagine these have been aggressively tuned to be hyper efficient under a wide variety of loads already, but it will be interesting to see if the power users can squeeze out more performance or efficiency.
Why is nobody plugging in eGPU.
That dot!
Nice laptop, but i can't afford 😅
is this faster than Macbook air m3 for video editing in Resolve?
never ever
@@basantrajmohan8716 😢
Dave2D did an informal test with Adobe under emulation, I think. He was impressed. If developers get onto those arm native versions fast, I think these will be a reasonable second place
pretty sure all flights have charging outlets
Not all flights, but definitely in whatever class he was in. It didn't matter though because that wasn't the point of this video.
Who takes 12 hour flights?
People. Millions of them every year
I don't need Windows to watch a couple of movies.
Well, than don't
That's a you problem.
Ok, great!
You can probably install Linux on these. You can't find a more powerful player than mpv or other desktop offerings. Mobile OS just sucks.
Playing back video is the best-case scenario for battery life and is not helpful. For example, my MB Air 15-inch M2 only loses about 5% in an hour of streaming media; I suspect it would get even more off the SSD. So it would be good for the return flight as well!
Truely: I do not see the point at all!
IF I wanted to watch video for hours and do some casual work....
... I would go with ANY tablet, android or apple. Done.
Besides: 2024 you can charge almost everywhere and more importantly with ANYTHING. Because Type C PD. So you do not even need to carry a charger, because they are all equal.
Not everybody can work on ipad or android.
The point is to take only 1 device with you on a trip. You might need the laptop for work but you might just want to watch movies in it on the flight.
@@Manuel-rl6um what if 1 app is locked in the apple ecosystem system and another one on Windows?
@@sergenalishiwa9097 I was replying the OP, as he was saying that better take a tablet with you. I was replying that you probably need a laptop for work in your destination and that you can do that AND watch content with it on the flight, without the need to bring another device.
@@Manuel-rl6um Did you read my comment?
The battery life is revolutionary.....🫶👌
But the MacBooks have 18-22 hours…I think I expected more than this 😐
@@SuperMachead1LMAO , MacBooks have garbage screens, this one is OLED with 120Hz. It is far more power consuming yet lasts longer.
@@neddiego2570 ….some reviews say the tandem OLED on the M4 iPad is the best screen they have ever used…I don’t have one so I can’t comment on it myself 😜
