Gaming must not be the yardstick for comparision ... It appears apple has a true competitor here.... given the battery life and producitivity application performance..... apple needs to step it up or maybe do cost cuts in future when this platform gets more mature....

Truthfully, I couldn't disagree more. If either company, Apple or Microsoft (and all Copilot+ manufacturers) wish to have the broadest appeal, gaming truly needs to be very high on the consideration measurement. The audience for wanting greater battery life always tends to be gamers who want to unplug. My personal experience has always been that a high performance gaming machine can literally do anything else well while the reverse is not true. AI at the moment is somewhat gimmicky but that won't be forever and any manufacturer + chip maker who can address the needs of both high performance gaming + AI with ultra efficiency via battery will have an unbeatable combination.

@@jonathanmardukas5940great point.. And yeah that's true.
But a lot of buyers actually don't really think about high end gaming, except gamers..
And even now, gamers have a specific type of x86 laptops to get, nvidia actually had to differentiate their chips for creators and gamers..
So there's room for non gamers who barely have the time to game and just wants to be on windows.
I bet there are people who switched to Apple just cause they couldn't find any windows alternative, now when devs support, they'd be happy.. I know I would be.
I love Apple Macs, but for my work and region, it's not something that's easy to work with, I tried.
Windows is just better.. And with these updates, it's super exciting.

@@4everzapy but they have built a reputation... We are talking about snapdragon and windows..
The price in my opinion isn't crazy.. Are you kidding me.. For what we get with windows?
Besides, Apple already shown that Arm has a space, so they just need more time to make it better.
Besides, hold on.. Apple did same thing, and it's not like they don't have failed products, they do.. The iPad even after so many years is a niche product that has very little use case.
Yet it costs same for a PC that offers everything it has and more.
Vision Pro is more of a beta product than anything from Microsoft and Snapdragon, yet it's $3,500..
      Are you really kidding me?

This is a really good review.. It was done with an understanding of where Apple is as a trillion dollar company and where Qualcomm and Microsoft are.
It can be difficult integrating different things.. And for this performance for a start.. This is super amazing and exciting..
Can't wait to see what happens over time.. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't nuke windows with their desperation and bring back the new/bad curse.
Btw... Blender has an arm version..

I like the larger screen with 16x9 ratio. I don't like the color especially the color of the keys. I'm not in a hurry and I think I want to wait for Lunar Lake and whatever AMD had coming. I also like some older 32 bit Windows games and I haven't seen anyone review how they perform yet, but given how horribly they perform on Apple Silicon, I don't have much hope that Snapdragon will do better. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Book Pro and it performs well ehough but since it's Intel it runs 32 bit games amazingly well. I get around 6 hours of battery out of it and the only reason I would consider ARM is if the battery life is truely a LOT better, but I don't trust battery life claims from manufacturers.

I like the new battery life, but Ryzen 8000s CPU laptops get nearly the same battery life and performance. Also, Ryzen 8000s CPU laptops get full access to X86 software (including gaming).

This is exactly the reason why I am waiting for Zen 5 Strix Point. At some point, the battery life becomes "good enough" (8-10 hours is fine...it's not like you will be in some desert away from a power outlet for too long) and other things like performance and compatibility matter more.

  • @martinspedding4210

Apple only had the soc as a way of competing and now with snapdragon it looks like there is no reason to downgrade to macbooks.

  • @RobertDunn310
    @RobertDunn310 10 дней назад +1

Honestly, I would skip the first generation of Qualcomm Snapdragon laptops and wait for Zen 5 Strix Point or Intel Lunar Lake.
From what I've seen in benchmarks, you can get comparable performance on existing x86 chips (and the next generation will be even better) as well as battery life that is good enough for most people.
Trust me, I would love to see ARM chips succeed in the laptop space since they are more efficient, but the software and driver compatibility remain huge hurdles.

    1. CPU is as fast as Intel and AMD, but bit more efficient
    2. Has similar battery life as Intel and AMD.
    3. GPU is lot slower than intel and AMD.
    4. is far too expensive compared to Intel and AMD
    5. limited ram options and no expandability.
    6. has compatibility issues as non native take a significant performance hit.
Did I miss something? so what is the point for me to consider this over Intel or AMD?

you compare multicore scores of a 12 performance cores to apples m3 10 or 8 cores soc which has half efficiency cores... thats a joke. Only single core performance is really important and on this apple with M4 chip which will come this year to laptops will destroy x elite. All in all, Xelite is a-bit disappointment for me.

Ultimately with these devices, the device-to-device variance is insane. Going through the geekbench scores they vary from the high 8k to high 14k. That’s some insane variance. The MacBooks don’t get that kind of variance. Maybe 1k total. Also m3 air 30k smashes the 20k of this processor in GPU workloads.
It’s comparable in price and performance to the MacBook Air M3. Which is nice, don’t get me wrong, but the fluff and hype on these is insane. It’s a revolution for Windows, because they are finally getting laptops that are starting to be as useful as a Mac. I think if Qualcomm set the expectations accordingly these wouldn’t have as many open box returns at Best Buy already.
