@@MonogramistaML oh man, that's so sad. I almost forgot about this comment. Wish I saw it earlier so I could hear a bit more about the meeting :( Tks for sharing
The highest compliment you can pay an artist is to recognize her as unique. Ms. Vaughan was totally unique and head and shoulders above any other vocalist I have ever heard.
Awesome story -- thanks for sharing! She is one of my absolute favorite singers!! I wish I had been old enough to go and hear her when she was still performing.
Mar.27: Happy birthday and RIP Singer Sarah Vaughan "The Divine One"; Grammy Hall of Fame, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (1924-1990) Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, TheJazzStreet. Blessings
I'm either an old cuss who just likes the good old days, or it's really true that today's music has no stuffing compared to this kind of artistry - I kind of groaned when I heard the bongos until she started weaving that Sassy magic into it and then like always I'm in heaven by the middle. There's just enough of her speaking voice mixed in with that velvet to make it like she's just singing to me. An enchanted voice from an immortal artist.
Great rendition! Love Sassy! Thanks for share it! #classicmonday #jazzvocals
This is an interesting version-all punctuated with Sarah's lush tones, and the Latin band brings the masculine edge to it. Peggy Lee did it with understated gusto, and allowed for other artists to shift and bend it to their will.
Sarah breathed life into this song. Her vocal ups and downs make her sound like she really is delirious. However, this song really did not challenge her vocal skills.
Never know how much I love you Never know how much I care When you put your arms around me I get a fever that's so hard to bear You give me fever when you kiss me Fever when you hold me tight Fever in the mornin' Fever all through the night Sun lights up the day time Moon lights up the night I light up when you call my name Know you're gonna treat me right You give me fever when you kiss me Fever when you hold me tight Fever in the mornin' Fever all through the night Captain Smith and Pocahontas Had a very mad affair When her daddy tried to kill him She said, "Daddy oh, don't you dare" He gives me fever Ooh, when you kiss me Fever when you hold me tight Fever fever fever fever fever I'm his missus, won't you treat him right? Now you've listened to my story Here's the point that I have made Chicks were born to give you fever Be it fahrenheit or centigrade They give me fever When we kiss them Fever if you live you learn Fever till you sizzle What a lovely way to burn They give me fever...
@josephina323 i just listened, you have a really nice singing voice! very soft. i think the 'fever' part should have dragged on just a bit longer but a part from that i hope you upload some more
Best version of this song is by Little Willie John. I think it was have been the original recording of this terrific song. It even tops Peggy Lee's version.
@realityparticles Who's song is it then....? Peggy Lee? Elvis? The guy who had the original hit in 1958, Little Willie John? Eddie Cooley & John Davenport (Otis Blackwell) who wrote it? Surely if someone wants to sing a song they've a right to, and also, hopefully, change it a bit (or a lot).
@aubrey1015 Ella called her "the world greatest singing talent." Its one thing to prefer Ella, but to say that she is 'nothing' compared to Ella is extremely absurd.
Nah your wrong. The original is by LITTLE WILLIE JOHN. That's the best version in my opinion. Peggy's version is the one that's most well known. Its her signature song BUT each version has its own merits. They were not amatures. I love the fact that Sarah's rendition is distinctive, and the latin groove for this arrangement is brilliant. I love it.
I love Sarah's sonorous intonation on this tune. She had one of the richest voices.
I mer Sahra back in the late 40s when she was a club singer. Met her while on Arny pass in Bufflow NY. Fell like a ton of bricks
Ray now 85
Hey Ray! Great story, hope you're fine!

Gives me Fee-vah! . . . Never hear this one before, thank you for sharing!
It's great. On the Verve Remixed3 it's a new take on it that really showcases her voice. One of the best recording ever!
She didn't just sing. She knew, maybe better than anyone else, how to use her voice like an instrument.
Great rendition! Love Sassy! Thanks for share it!

Never know how much I love you
Never know how much I care
When you put your arms around me
I get a fever that's so hard to bear
You give me fever when you kiss me
Fever when you hold me tight
Fever in the mornin'
Fever all through the night
Sun lights up the day time
Moon lights up the night
I light up when you call my name
Know you're gonna treat me right
You give me fever when you kiss me
Fever when you hold me tight
Fever in the mornin'
Fever all through the night
Captain Smith and Pocahontas
Had a very mad affair
When her daddy tried to kill him
She said, "Daddy oh, don't you dare"
He gives me fever
Ooh, when you kiss me
Fever when you hold me tight
Fever fever fever fever fever
I'm his missus, won't you treat him right?
Now you've listened to my story
Here's the point that I have made
Chicks were born to give you fever
Be it fahrenheit or centigrade
They give me fever
When we kiss them
Fever if you live you learn
Fever till you sizzle
What a lovely way to burn
They give me fever...

Nice insight, and I couldn't agree more about Sarah's great talent, even as she aged -- listen to what she did with Sergio Mendez. 3/2018
Ella was melody, Sarah was harmony (infact she was an excellent) not to mention her tone which was amazing
