That's how I got into her. Amy said her voice was like an instrument. Amy talked about Carleen Anderson and Donny Hathaway and I love them too. Donny Hathaway's voice is absolutely ridiculous. If you haven't listened to him, you really should. Amy was the one who got me into Jazz because of all the people she mentioned. I love her Frank album, it's amazing!
And also my girl Anita Baker was truly inspired by this amazing woman!

Sarah Vaughan was the greatest jazz singer-period. She COULD HAVE BEEN an opera singer-easily. And if she had been an opera singer, she would have been the greatest opera singer of all time-bar none!

No. She couldnt sing opera. Totally different instrument. Different vocal stamina, agility, projection, intensity etc. Amazing jazz singer, but would have made a horrible opera singer.

When I was younger, I sang Send in the CLowns for lots of performances. THEN I heard Sarah Vaughan sing it on a PBS special. Mic drop - it was the definitive version. Never sang it again, lol! What a gift she was.

"The Divine One!" I wish I had been able to hear her in person. She is my favorite jazz singer of all time. Her range and interpretive gift is unparalleled. I wish this had been recorded so that I could have it in a better format, but I am grateful that it's on RUclips. I mouth the words and dedicate it to my husband who passed away of pancreatic cancer. I lost my voice but used to sing jazz. She influenced me more than anyone!

She was sweating so hard because her body was trying to put out that fire that was coming from her heart and soul.
I absolutely love how she shakes her head when the compulsion is kind of getting out of control, it's like she gets vitally stuck in the realm of spiritual world and physically gives herself a waking point to move from one note to another. i swear to god, she is the greatest singer ever. that's that there. no one else.no one else.
