  • How can you actually have more connection with community?
In our current society, we live in nuclear families in isolation. For the most part, we sequester our elders away in nursing homes. Children have dependence on only their parents, instead of on our larger ‘village.’ We’ve isolated ourselves, sequestered our generational wisdom away from our main family unit, and stopped relying on the surrounding community for the support we all need.
When we understand and practice the interdependent relationship of ourselves, our earth, and our community we’ve truly embodied holistic health.
There’s a great South African tribal expression, ubuntu, which means you are generous, you’re hospitable, you’re friendly, caring, and compassionate.
You share what you have, and my humanity is bound up in yours.
We all belong to a bundle of life.
    Interconnection is key.
My humanity is bound up in yours.
Excerpted from a talk by Dr. Nicole Apelian at OAND (for health care providers), this discussion is pertinent to folks from all walks of life.

My mom was divorced when I was five. My grandparents moved in with us and one aunt and an uncle. I loved my childhood. I loved the house being full. And I was never alone after school. There was always someone there to cook breakfast in the morning and dinner at night. I truly felt blessed having everyone in my home and three other siblings. I never knew that we were poor. I always felt rich.

Maybe it's because I'm a new mom, but I think this is a really important part of your Holistic Health series!! So many lonely people out there, community is crucial.

Appreciate the thought provoking lecture. There is so much truth you revealed in understanding and experiencing culture outside of western culture. The inter generational living and learning really sings well! Hope to see more of these.

Your holistic health presentation is excellent and so interesting. I'm hoping we'll get to see all of it. Thanks so much for posting it. Ever done a Ted Talk? You would be so good and many more people would get to learn these important, but often ignored things.

That's the way that I grew up. We lived across from my grand parents, who lived between my aunts and uncles along with another family who lived next door to us. Everyone took responsibility for whom ever was at their house. We were taught, loved, and disciplined by all that we were around. So I tried to raise my child in that environment, but the community was all too busy with their own lives. It broke down and got all caught up in self...Another break down is this politically correct world that we live in. If you were to discipline someone else's child anymore, You would be jailed.

I am struggling with getting back my community after having Covid in April 2020 and am one of the 10 percent still frustrated with lingering symptoms. I used to be a musician, taught downhill skiing, coached for Special Olympics, and taught in the schools. Now my teens have Zoom classes, we can't meet for orchestra rehearsals (a lot of us are older and have family members with compromised immune systems, and we were a traditional, old fashioned orchestra) and skiing was cancelled for the kids. I took my mom in for over a year because she was having some health issues at her house, so had to stop teaching piano lessons. I did get studded tires for my mountain bike, and bike through the nature preserve near my house in almost any weather (just not the -20F with -60 windchills we just finished in MN). But I still am frustrated by the direction community is going. You have to have Zoom and good Internet, and a clear mind, and figure out how to reconnect with people. It was so hard being in quarantine at the beginning of the pandemic, as we didn't have access to testing and knew little about the virus. Cities and jobs have shut down. We had no Christmas performances, no graduation open house for my oldest, could not attend my cousin's wedding. Any suggestions?

Im not able to cure rheumatoid arthritis, but I been able to prolong it, with homeopathy therapy. But I think there's more I can do. Tamper off, and also more strategic with it, might actually cure it, because I've had symptoms of my disease very bad, and miraculously to my surprise the homeopathy got rid of it, when I almost gave up lol
