  • We all know that emotional stress can cause physiological responses in the body via the nervous and hormonal systems, illustrating the mind-body connection. These physical responses kick off a cascade of reactions in the body that often lead to disease ranging from things like mild digestive issues like an upset stomach to full-blown autoimmune issues or cancer. There have been numerous studies showing that stress and a negative mental state leads to illness in the body. Dis-ease leads to disease.
Focusing attention on the present moment and on mindfulness have both long- and short-term effects and benefits for the brain. Short term it will decrease our stress by decreasing our levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Long term this practice can actually alter neural pathways.
Excerpted from a talk by Dr. Nicole Apelian at OAND (for health care providers), this discussion is pertinent to folks from all walks of life.

100% Correct. When a person tells you that you are sick, they can create a state of fear and worry that will result in stress, which makes the illness worse. I never ever told a client how serious their illness was. I just made it better. If it was life-threatening then I will inform them of their POSSIBLE options.

Found your Channel by a name search, after seeing your ad for a book on foraging for food & medicine. The one with big photos to better ID them.

I've had MS since 2014 but the lesions are only on my brain and nothing in my spine which means I only have cognitive problems, but my doctors think I need to take medicine for it and I refuse to cuz I'm still able to function with help from no one.
I have been told that I need to remember that I've got MS, apparently it's good for me which is nothing but a lie, I don't see any thing positive from doing that to myself, I only truly remember I've got MS when I start having some sort of cognitive problem other than that I don't know I've got it and I know it's not going to be good for me if I remind myself every morning and through out my day that I've got MS.
I know that by constantly reminding myself that I have that disease is only going to make me worse.
Being positive works for me not being negative.

I recently bought your foragers guide book and lost herbs. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I was worried about the things you find out in the wild I could never find where I live. But we live in the same area. I’m here in Waldport Oregon. Right on the coast. I go on hikes and would love to increase my knowledge of medicinal herbs. I too have an autoimmune disease ”Psoriatic Arthritis” at times flare-ups do “suck” sometimes worse than others. I know you are a busy woman I just wanted to say that you encourage me.
