So far ahead of their time, virtually unknown and under appreciated. As a young musician in the 70s I was truly amazed of their music. Just fabulous. Every member a master of their craft. Thanks.
Dr.Ilja Lasaroff.Bulgarien.
That’s what it was all about. I wish I had some Orange Sunshine today. A couple of years ago, I had a microdose of acid. But, it's very difficult to find.
Always a delight! Ps: MahavishnuJohn must have been unusually fit...have you ever strapped on a 1275 doubleneck? They will solidly weigh in at 11 lbs plus....I can barely get one off the stand, without potentially getting a career ending injury.....
I got "Birds Of Fire" in 1972 when I was 15. Since then it is amongst my personal top 10 albums. 😅 I have listened that album at least 10.000 times. Or so. 😊
I remember seeing Mahavishnu Orchestra and they were always with a "rock band" on the bill back in the 70's, groups like ZZ TOP, Aerosmith. Never with another "Jazz Fusion" group.
Maybe it was because in the 70s the jazz rock style existed. In the mid-70s, everything started to be called fusion. Jazz rock has differences and the main ones are the compositions and the nervous drums. Mahavishnu, Eleventh House, Return To Forever (as a quartet), Jean Luc Ponty, Colosseum Second, Passport... are some groups considered jazz rock at the time. Not to mention others like Frank Zappa, full of jazz rock in his compositions.

Mid 70’s I saw them double bill with Jeff Beck doing Wired. Dang, what a night of amazing players .

It's like listening to the future.
Thanks for sharing such a fantastic performance...
All of them of course great. Billy Cobham's playing here is so over the top

Well said!
One of the fore runners of Jazz Rock aka fusion. Saw them on "In Concert" in the mid 70's.
And that. I'm also from the time when jazz rock was one style and fusion another. Jazz rock compositions and drums are his biggest references.
all of these musicians were absolute tip of the iceberg of their instruments
Always was ,always will be, an amazing piece. Thanks so much for posting this
Soooo many Orange Sunshine trips listening to this band.

Le violon n'est pas juste ; ça ne passerait plus aujourd'hui. Et pourtant c'était fantastique.

@delmedeiros3570 And not to mention, Mahavishnu Orchestra actually "Rocked".
I recognize McLaughlin and Cobham, who are the other band members ? Love this video
Jerry Goodman on violin. Jan Hammer on keys.
The personnel is in the video description. Why don't people read that? I make a point of including personnel for every video, if it's available.
@@JazzVideoGuyI do! It's like checking out an album cover❤. And thanks for doing g that for us! ❤U. 😊
@ when the video came on I never seen any captions of personnel, they were playing . A great video
