Always so informative! I had thought even good bacteria feed on sugar though (isn’t that how kombucha is made?). No argument that it’s good to limit sugar intake - but curious if someone can verify that sugar kills good bacteria?

And the nearest Whole Foods is three towns over 🙁 My town is a desert for healthy choices. But plenty of fast food joints (sigh) :/
Question: When you say that Bubbie's pickles are barrel aged, is that a wooden barrel or a metal barrel? Why I ask is because I am allergic to wood (yes, that's a real allergy) and I can't eat anything wood smoked (like meats) or aged in barrels (alcohol). There are several wines that are now "tree free". Would love to try Bubbie's if it is aged in metal containers.

Sugar doesn’t kill good gut bacteria. It does feed the bad gut bacteria, which in turn could crowd out the good bacteria. Natural sugar is fine, especially if you are eating lots of fiber.
