For being the first video that caught my interest when looking up a shredder tear-down: Super thumbs up. I’m on the hunt for parts to salvage for diy projects. Electric motors, worm gears, step down gears, bearings, ring clips, electrical sensors and switches, etc. It dawned on me that shredders might be a good cheap source. Now confirmed. Thanks. ✊🏼

Fellowes paper shredder 79ci machine is power shredd with 100% jam proof and safe sense . Shredd credit cards and CD . Paper along with staples and small U clips. It's a very good machine for your confidential documents can shredd

I was hoping you would show how to re assemble the actual cutter blades on the rollers.Mine had broken spacers and hex spacers on the shafts.
One side is fine, but I think you have to remove, then reassemble both to get the overlap of the teeth right..
EDIT>>>>> I was able to reassemble my Aurora shredder. Used spacers and a few of the 'strippers that ride on the spacers. Works fine now!! Today I bought a Fellowes DS-16Ci for $15 at the goodwill. Can't believe how quiet it is? Will take apart, clean the cutters, and re lube the gears. I have 4 shredders now, but no way am I a shredder collector, lol. Going to sell a couple of the smaller, totally serviced ones.

A big shout-out to Cpt. Morris Productions for this teardown video. I found while searching for the solution to why my Fellows shredder of this model suddenly stopped turning off after shredding. It was your tear down that revealed to me the counter-weighted lever that gave indication to how thick the paper was entering the shredder by its optical encoder and light chopper wheel. I'd also re-read my shredders instructions and found where it said "do not spray any lubricants or solvents into the hopper or shredder blades". I'd been doing that for years and now realized the reason why it isn't turning off and always indicating at least one paper thickness is because I gummed up the swing operation of this lever with my transgressions of lubricants. The great thing your video showed is that once the cover is off, the motor and shredder assembly can be carefully picked up and swung toward the front thereby providing access to the two curved paper guide pieces that hold the led and led sensor. These two curved plastic pieces had decades of accumulation of paper dust and thick, thick grease (WD-40 that has dried up and left a thick pasty mess). Removing and cleaning these curved pieces and the LED and sensor allowed me to then clean all around the white plastic, counter-weighted thickness detector. Once back together, it works like a charm again. Many thanks!
As an addendum I want to mention that just as in Cpt. Morris's video, the plastic curved pieces in my shredder were also cracked, broken at each end. It did not affect the shredders operation and the four screws, two in each curved piece, held them securely in place and no further damage occurred, but it does show this to be a common failure mode for this model Fellows shredder.

great video -- saved me a bunch of time. After seeing the amount of effort and mess involved., I ordered a new one. 😂

I am curious to find out if you can remove the plastic parts between blades and still be able to shred ? Or are the small plastic parts mandatory to hold the blades together ?

Have you noticed in most of Fellowes Shredder you have 2 metal gears and one with plastic with light metal like aluminium or magnesium...Just to make sure the gear breaking after a while like 1 year or 2 max...I noticed this because mine stop working and that's what i found....Really??

Yes same problem with mine. That big plastic second stage gear will eventually fail. If it was made out of metal it would probably last forever. And that’s why it’s plastic. Planned obsolescence. Finding that gear is difficult to nearly impossible and if you do find one it’s expensive like $100. So you end up doing exactly what I’m doing you go out and you buy another shredder. “it’s a little bit cheesy but it’s nicely displayed” -FZ

Take off the motor and hook-up your drill to the shaft of the shredder. Turn drill on and you will be able to shred stuff!

30:30 Yeah, drive that screw! Let me see everything! I would recommend you to get an impact screw driver for those hard to remove screws. You can see one in action here: ruclips.net/video/U2jNeObHnZY/видео.html
