After many years of flawless shredding, my 79Ci on-off switch began to give up the ghost. I took the shredder apart to make sure whether I had the 4-wire or 5-wire switch. I have the 5-wire, part number 207232, as shown in the video. I called the Fellowes support number shown above and a young man took my order right away. He was very courteous. The part cost was $19.11 plus shipping. It arrived in a few days, protected in bubble wrap. The install was easy, just as shown in the video. The on-off switch is a fairly simple design, with the top part (what you see from the top of the shredder) consisting of 3 little switches. The top part is assembled to a small printed-circuit board, which you can see in the video. I opened my old switch up to see what was inside (it was simply connected to the PCB by two small plastic clips). And right there, on the PCB, were mounted 3 tiny little micro-switches, the one in the middle being the on-off switch. This was the "weak link." But, I was not unhappy because I had gotten many, many years of service out of this little thing. I told the young man who took my order to please pass along my thanks to the Fellowes management for stocking this part. I think their service was outstanding. My shredder is "back to work."

CALL FELLOWES FIRST if your machine does not start call Fellowes. They fixed mine over the phone - no cost - great service.

Vincent. I totally agree. They walked me thru a fix with alcohol. Switch works great now. (Also bought switch anyway. I really like the shredder. Want to keep running into the future. )

I bought this almost new shredder for slightly more than $5. Thanks to the producer for these faulty buttons, three of them did not want to operate that's why it was so cheap. It costs me nothing but some time just to solder new buttons. Also I have replaced blinding nasty blue LEDs to calming green.

Thank you so much for a very well-produced video with excellent captioning. I'm going to disassemble my unit and see if it is indeed a switch issue. But, I will contact Fellowes directly if I need to buy a new switch. Again, thanks for showing all the steps.

Just ordered part# 207232 on-off switch direct from Fellowes. Total cost with tax and shipping was $28.54.

Thank you for the video. Unfortunately looks like getting a new switch is going to be expensive. Completely agree with another comment here that Fellowes should be offering a replacement for what is clearly an unreliable part. I may be fabricating my own rocker switch to replace the factory part.

I had this same problem where the blue lit switch wouldn't power on, the main switch was ok. On a call with Fellows, the rep said to unhook the power cable and soak the switch with a few drops of rubbing alcohol. I did it a few times and moved the switch on and off as well as the side switches. After a few attempts and blowing it with a pressure canister, the switch is now working.

Just ordered a replacement ON/OFF switch from Fellowes directly (called the customer support number on their website). It was about $27 ($18+ for part and $8 for shipping). It is part number 207232. They first recommend that you unplug the shredder and try to clean around the switch with IPA on a Qtip while pressing the switch repeatedly. That worked for a while, but I want to be save and get a new switch. It is a very poor design and gave us problems from the start.

Just been on to Fellowes UK to get a replacement part for my shredder model SB-89CI which is the same power on off switch as this one. They do not have spare parts for either of these models. Looks like I'll have to find a non Fellowes replacement machine. It's a thumbs down from me concerning Fellowes.

You forgot the first step: visit your banker. These poorly designed switches go for $50 to $70 plus shipping! Given the sky-high failure rate, it's obviously a faulty design. Fellowes should be providing free replacement switches.

Just been on to Fellowes and they couldn't have been less interested. THEY DO NOT STOCK SPARES FOR THIS MODEL OR SB-89CI (Both have the same switch) lol

I contacted fellows. My switch for unit was only $19 plus shipping. Customer Service is very helpful at Fellowes.
