During my time with the Rhodesian Army, 2 (Independent) Company Rhodesia Regiment based in Kariba, we were issued two of these - an M2 HB and a water cooled one. Unfortunately, we were never issued an operating manual so nobody knew how to strip, clean and reassemble either of them. Luckily, I had a book titled "Infantry Weapons of the World". Using this book, we were able to strip, clean and reassemble the weapons without any problems.
This was a great video. Remember that class well at the Basic School and at my first unit as a Doc with 5th Marines. Best weapon system ever created, that's why it has lasted the test of time.
I used this machine gun today for the first time - nice experience. I've used a PKM earlier - much worse, you can't even compare. Good luck, bro, let's make many good russians!
I remember in tank school falling asleep in the commanders MG class and having to stand at port arms holding the receiver end of the M85 .50 cal MG for like 15 minutes. I thought my arms were going to fall off, LOL
4:02 I know they have to show the "official" method in official videos like this, but in a field expedient situation when you don't have punches lying around is to take out the recoil spring and use the end of the guide rod to punch out that pin, it fits perfectly.
Wasn’t actually created then. It was conceptualized by John Browning as early as 1917. The idea was to replace the M1917 because there was in need of a more powerful round that was able to penetrate armor and be effective against infantry. Most of its concept was taken from the Germans as they had a round that was roughly 13mm, we stole the idea and created what is know as the 12.7mm round which is more powerful than the M1917’s 30-06. It’s first iteration wasn’t until the early 1930s by Colt.
Skipped a couple steps but overall pretty good. Maybe memory is rusty or something got updated. A lot of good facts and knowledge in here. I remember the horror story told to us as recruits. Whole squad wiped out because their main gunner couldn't get the maw duce up n running. Taliban captured it n used it on our friendlies. Long time ago, but to my knowledge the weapon system hasn't changed. Main reason I still carry a leather man to this day. Never know when a tool will fail and you have to adapt n improvise. Granted, I was handed some used n abused garbage but it's still good knowledge.
LOL first time breaking down a .50 back in 2005 while our NCOs were screaming at us was pretty eventful, seeing how all of these steps i remembered under stress is pretty impressive lol I could never do that now haha
I can take this down in my sleep. Crew served weapons are 19K specialty. In the real world it can be disassembled and reassembled quickly. Go/Nogo head space and timing, United States Army Armor. Disabled Combat Veteran.
Man I forgot a lot about the ole 50! Remember tearing em down all the way to the firing pin but don’t remember a lot of the step!😂 Old age I guess! I do remember that if it was cocked and you removed the back plate and tried to remove the spring under pressure, it just might go through your chest of face! 😮
I just watched a video of a guy bitching that his new semi auto pistol had a slide pin he needed to remove to take it down . Four whole parts including that pin. This puts that into perspective.
Now 11 years ago the barrels did not have the handles that automatically set to 2 clicks. In fact to qualify, you had to ensure you backed off exactly 2 clicks. I am sure there is a sergeant major now out of the instructors I had in 2010.
Just alittle comment, if your quick, and give the barrel a stroke backwards fast your dont have to move the charging handle to remove the barrel, just grab the barrel handle and push it backwards and turn it in one movement
I am a 3d artist and currently modeling this weapon. Very useful for me to recreate it realistically and understand what part goes where. It's not like civilians could get their hands on this anyways.
My late brother, Tim brought home a .50 cal headspace & timing tool...he used to hang it from the rearview mirror of his AMC Spirit..I had it for the longest time until I moved in 2008...dunno what happened to it...hope whoever found it knew what it was and gave it a good home...if it somehow made its way to NYC it prolly wouldda started a major criminal investigation amonst those 'Maroons'

It's "0.50 inches" or "50 caliber", not "0.50 caliber." I know, the channel says "Marines," so spelling is not top priority, but weapon lingo should be your forte.
It actually is .50 cal; a caliber is a unit of measurement that corresponds to inches, so you’re right that a .50 cal is .5 inches (usually .510” or 13mm) but a “50 caliber” bullet would be 50 inches wide, a fucking 4 foot 2 inch wide projectile, that’s why it’s written .50 cal. Maybe research weapon lingo for 30 seconds before wrongly attacking an institution who’s profession is war and has been studying weapons since before the constitution that gave you the right to flaunt your stupidity was written, and then accusing said organization of weapon ignorance.
never put ur finger inside this beast! if u lose that gripp, the finger will come right off! rather take a empty shell or something and let it fall throu the open chamber.

Nice tutorial, I am in french Army and next week i will learn how to operate this weapon. I enjoyed to get my first lesson from a Marine.

J M Browning clearly was a genius.
Is say so, considering the m2 has been in use for a century.
@@isaachousley325 Same with the Colt M1911
Imaging having ALL that in your head and visualizing it, BEFORE you tried to build the first one!!! Genius indeed...
Hi from Ukraine ! I got this gun, really nice weapon btw - russian troops have no chance ;)
Lol y’all are still losing the war 😂😂😂
Are you still alive?
@@Saku19I was about to ask that he’s probably dead 😂

Proud to have been issued an M1 Garand in boot camp and field stripped it blindfolded.
Oorah
Watching before my practical this week 💪🏽💪🏽 thank you
Great weapon. Take cover, if your receiving 50 Cal fire. Semper Fi
Good luck with that shit, Ma will chew right through most cover.
Last time I did this was over 40 years ago, man do I feel old.

You can also use the tip of a round to do it since it’s just a small movement.
Looks great in a clean environment
How could anyone dislike this?
well... it doesn’t actually show how to assemble it.. just dissasemble.
@@mattyicicles1608 you do the exact same thing but in reverse. It's really not that hard.
"belt fed machine Gun that is a .50 cal that can reach 1000 meters" in other news water is wet
This weapon was first used in 1918 a 104 year old design that can't be surpassed

Depending on how long ago you last touched a 50, it might have been before the M2A1 replaced the M2HB.

This is a amazing gun OOORAH!!!SEMPER FI!!!
When I was in the Army (31May '71 - 20 May '74) the barrel didn't have a QD capability...you screwed it in and out and set the headspace each time...
Yeah our .50s in iraq in 2006 were the same way. I didn't remember that QD lever lol...
Same for me, USMC 0331 '88-96. Watching this was like, wow when did they add the QD and handle?
Man I forgot a lot about the ole 50! Remember tearing em down all the way to the firing pin but don’t remember a lot of the step!😂 Old age I guess! Is this called a barracks strip and not a field strip?
Jason Powell fuck that, there’s no way that’s a field strip. To many moving parts.
OG FROGMAN, they’ll lose to much shit with the field strip
So that's where that piece goes!
Awesome ❤ thanks 🎉

Thank you so much for this video!
That's a good guide
What song is this in the background? Its awesome and fits well while the Sgt dismantles the M2
Can we show pics on here. Because I want to show you what grind my gears with operators not doing pmcs on this system
Nice Job., very detailed and correct.
Is there a part 2?
Just play it backwards, assuming they don't have to headspace it.
@Forrest Taylor They don't have to worry about headspacing anymore with the M2A1.
seth Thomas except after you fire around 10,000 rounds through it
This video only shows the dissemble portion. Where can I find the assembly section?
Came here as a soldier who got stuck disassembling my weapon. Now we know we fucked that shit up
once you opened up the operating group it looked a whole lot like my mossberg Maverick 88. Cool.
Headspace and timing was the real problem.
Now 11 years ago the barrels did not have the handles that automatically set to 2 clicks. In fact to qualify, you had to ensure you backed off exactly 2 clicks. I am sure there is a sergeant major now out of the instructors I had in 2010.
Those M2’s are very much still in service. I know tracks has them and still has to headspace and time
@@iSKsniper Yeah, true stuff. It almost makes me want to re enlist even to go through boot camp all over again. I miss the comradory.

Thanks for the video.
The business end moves at least 1.5 inches upward after a shot. This thing needs to be redesigned to where that doesn't happen.
short recoil operation has left the chat
Thanks for disassembling but her also for reassembling
I'd like one of these for home defense please.
Is it weird that I'm a kid that finds this stuff interesting
Nope you most likely are a Marine
I plan to join when I get older, my dad already is one.
Eminem disassembled a machine gun in 4 minutes
Is the m2 and m2a1 the same?
M2 when I was in '88-96 you unscrewed the barrel and had to set the headspace and timing
You have to point the cocking lever backwards before putting the bolt group back inside
i was looking for eminem’s” killshot” when i looked up how to disassemble a machine gun
Same
...so easy even a soldier can do it.

"How to Assemble and Disassemble the 50 cal" .... no reassembly
This dude hip pocket classes!
It’s Perfect
Please KPV.
You can actually reload faster by pushing in the rounds through the side and charging the weapon twice, dont even have to open the feed tray cover
Sarge, you need more light or a larger lens opening on the camera for this video.
swedish must be pros with taking weapons apart and back together... you know with all that ikea stuff they build
Holy smokes Batman.
I missed the reassemble part.

Als your gonna do is call this guy to reassemble the gun you just fucked up 😂
the aviation variant is so close but so different looking it bothers me it functionally is the same but this one just looks so different
The only difference in the aviation gun is the firing mechanism and the barrel. Other than that it's the same gun.
Steve H specifically the sear stopping pin.
be fearful, im an armorer watching this vid, its the exact same thing as ur nerosurgon pulling up wiki how in the middle of surgery
