The Mike Tyson/Hulk Hogan Confrontation That No One Remembers: Arsenio Hall | FOUND AFTER 30 YEARS

  • | | We discuss this on EP. 85 of Iron-On Wrestling with Gregory Iron, available for download now on iTunes or anywhere you download podcasts. | |
In a historical moment that no one discusses, Mike Tyson makes a surprise appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show, and after Hulk Hogan makes his scheduled appearance to hype his main event match with Sgt. Slaughter, Tyson and Hogan have a confrontation -- 7 years before Steve Austin & Tyson!
Bruce Prichard and Hulk Hogan have addressed this potential match in interviews in the past, but the timelines don't match up with the time of this nose-to-nose encounter. Was Tyson & Hogan going to actually happen in 1991, or did these plans get derailed because of actions by Hogan and Tyson in the summer of 1991?

@@jasonmoody4219 Rocky started in the 70's but it did not reach peak popularity until Rocky III and IV which are the majority fab favorites till this day. Everyone watched Tyson in the 80's and still watch him today at age 54, and still had record PPV in an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr. Although there were other great fighters in the 70's Ali is why people watched them as he was entertaining, Foreman was quiet and boring back then. @@jollyjames30 'unprovoked' is the key word.. Tyson was playing pattycake on peoples faces on the regular seemed like. He would bloody a camera man for following him at a distance on film for a period of seconds after being warned not to. He fought some old man over an altercation of words. He punched someone asking for an autograph and throwing an insult out after not getting one. There are likely countless other situations where Tyson laid some sort of smack down from only the slightest provocation. He was a hot head not to be messed with.

@@kev0lad42 That is not true my man. I've had the displeasure of seeing a lot of real fights, the nasty aggression fueled ones and I have learned something from seeing them over the years... What I've learned is, there is no way of knowing who will win until it happens, until the fight is over. I have seen big guys fold little dudes like laundry; I have five foot ten men built like whippets roll the eyes up in the skull of stacked fellas fast as you can exclaim "What the hell just happened?" and everything in between.
A throw down between Tyson and Hogan in their prime would have been a site to behold, probably, but there's no way of knowing how that would have panned out, for either of them. There's one more thing I learned from watching those fights too. Don't be in a rush to get into a real fight because the consequences can stay with a fella for the rest of his life, win or lose.
