Thank you, that was much easier than I thought. Love the suggestion in the thread to use safety pin to attach to old and pull through as removing the old one.
Usually my elastic needs to be changed because the rubber inside has completely disintegrated. In that case it needs to be pulled through. My mom uses a diaper pin though so it is easier to pull.
Love this video! I was about to purchase a pair of joggers I loved soooo much, but they don’t have an xs. I wanted make sure I could fix them if needed, and this video makes it seem super simple. Thanks for the help!
I had a fair idea of replacing elastic in some clothes of mine, and after seeing your video, I now know EXACTLY what to do. Thank you Online Fabric Store!
Help needed.. if there are stitches in the waistband along the way preventing elastic from going all of the way around, how can you deal with that without ruining the garment.
My issue is the hidden elastic is always attached the the waistband all around the bottom seam so I have found you really need to unpick the entire waistband to remove it. It’s very rare these days to have a waistband where the elastic inside is loose and you can pull it out without having to deconstruct the entire waistband. I’ve ended up in a mess quite a few times trying to replace the elastic because of this. Some fabric ends up ripping and getting holes and then I have to hand sew to repair the holes before I can reset the waist back on and add new elastic.
@@onlinefabricstore I’ve got a few - it’s just a long and fiddly process that still requires an entire waistband reconstruction as you need to unpick the entire waistband to remove the elastic.
this is incredible!!! do you think it'll work on the reverse, too? on a skirt that's elastic is fine, just needs extended a bit? or maybe just replaced by a stretchier elastic i don't know... i gained some weight and now my favorite skirt is too tight... makes me really sad 😞
You are going to have to cut that fabric away and add another piece. Its a very different process and I am not the most familiar with it so I can't really talk you through adding a new piece back on. You could also cut the fabric away and use an extra thick band like I did in this tutorial, but it is going to change the look of your pants a little bit. Hopefully that helps! Best of luck, Sarah!
I have some favourite elastic lounge trousers the waistband has a narrow casing within the waistband and at the front are two drawstrings I am nit sure if it’s drawstring all way through is there a way I can add elastic to the outer material,on inner-side
If the drawstring goes completely through, there should be room for a similar elastic to the green pants. If not you could always sew an elastic to the inside of the waste band.
@@onlinefabricstore thanks I found the front section each side had pulled chord and then the middle section was where the elastic had been stretched I managed to unpick at the seam and thread new elastic through and cut the old elastic free from seam and tighten it up the new elastic is sewn with the old elastic and is flat in the waistband works a treat 👍
I have a really rare pair of 90s tommy Hilfiger basketball shorts that I have never seen other pictures of and the elastic is all crunchy and bad... what do I do about that?
@@headinthecloudsagain1735 The encased is the easier of the two! Just take it really slow and make sure you get a seam ripper (www.onlinefabricstore.net/dritz-deluxe-seam-ripper-.htm) so you can be really precise. I also would recommend only hand sewing especially with vintage clothing.
Damn haven't sewd anything since i was in school i got old pair of PJs that the Elastic got tighter on while my more recent pair the elastic go loose on, imma just swap em over
You will want to use a seam ripper to take out the elastic. It is a much more laborious process and you may end up having to re-sew the entire waistband using this method, but it can be done!
You are going to want to seam rip out as little as your possibly can, but you may have to seam rip around the entire hem like on the pants. Make sure you have a way to sew them back up though if that is the route you decide to take.
Thank you, that was much easier than I thought. Love the suggestion in the thread to use safety pin to attach to old and pull through as removing the old one.
Isn't it easier to attach the new elastic to the end of the old elastic and pull it through as you're pulling out the old elastic?
That's pretty genius actually. You could totally do that!
My elastic is sewn to the top and bottom of the casing
Got it out now trying to sew new elastic in casing.
Usually my elastic needs to be changed because the rubber inside has completely disintegrated. In that case it needs to be pulled through. My mom uses a diaper pin though so it is easier to pull.
Yep.
Genius. It's pretty good

I just fixed two pair of pants in a minimum amount of time . You are great Thanks!

YAY! Happy we could help!
Thanks for your video. Your methods show very simple ways. Keep it up!
I would like to thank you for this video
It was helpful for me especially as I am a new user of sewing machine
Wow that was a ton easier than I thought it’d be! Thanks
You're welcome!

Thank you this is a very easy way to replace an elastic. I love it !!!!!!!❤❤
nice I didnt think it would be that simple. one of my favorite shorts has a loose waistband and I wasnt so sure how to fix it thanks

I would recommend getting a seam ripper! That way you won't rip holes in your pants

i guess it is kinda off topic but do anybody know a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
@Cason Jimmy Flixportal xD
@Reese Nico Thanks, I signed up and it seems to work :) I appreciate it!

Sure! It should work to sew an extra piece of elastic to the old elastic or replace it with a longer or stretchier piece.
What stitch did you use to sew it shut after adding the new elastic?
Exactly the video i am looking for! Thank you!
For the hidden waistband, how to sew the opening closed? What type of stitch should I use?
What if you do not have a sewing machine would you be able to like sew it back closed like by hand
Can a thicker elastic waistband be replaced with a thinner one? Looking to replace a 1" or 1.5" elastic with a 1/4" elastic for more comfort.
Wow, that looked simple, Thank you so much
It is! You got this!
What about if it's the fabric surrounding the hidden elastic that is shot? Great video btw, thank you!

Excellent job

my old pair of PJ’s has the elastic sewn in all the way around.
Such a huge help! Thank you.

Thank you. It helped :)
Can you put elastic on a ready made men dress pant? How
Thank u so much.. searched this video so long.😍😍
Happy to help

Do either of the bands look like this?

Was hoping it'd be something like velcro easy but nuuu to tough 😣
