    Excellent tutorial! I have one suggestion for making sure the drawstring doesn't pull out. I sew a vertical stitch in the center of the back that holds the drawstring in place exactly in the middle. Tugging on it from either side will keep it from getting uneven and from pulling out. I do this on hoodies, too - even hoodies I buy! I just make a few stitches in the center that holds down the drawstring! Great tutorial, Melly! Thank you!

      That definitely helps if strings pulling is a problem.

    A heartfelt thanks for this video. I have watched so many and could not get it right until I watched this. I now see a lot of joggers in my future. This is the best tutorial out there to learn this. My only almost fail, right at the very end, was I could barely get the bodkin out of the buttonhole. Also, other elastic waist tutorials say to use a safety pin to pull the elastic through. No! The bodkin is so much easier! I just used my new one for the first time. Thanks again.

      @@Mellysews thank you so much for your reply! I managed to successfully replace a ripped waistband! But unfortunately with one problem. I've been trying for years to make the elastic tension even throughout but I'm not successful. Some "folds" are bigger, some smaller. Could we expect a video on this topic sometime in the future? Thank you again so much, I'll be happy to follow your channel!

    I was curious on how this was done though I would never do it myself. Got a really cool set of lounge pants that have no drawstring so need one added on the inside instead of outside along with two zippered/velcro pockets on the legs. What you did looks as good as what an alterations shop would do, very professional! Its soooo beautiful how it turned out :)

      You don't need to add anything to your waist measurement, you just need to use a pattern that is designed for an elastic waistband.

    I need to downsize a waistband that is sewn like this one in your pants. Seems like there is not an easy way to do it! Any suggestions on how to do it?

    • @Mellysews
      @Mellysews  5 лет назад +1

      There isn't an easy way. You have to unpick all the rows of stitching, shorten the elastic, then restitch the rows. Might be easier to cut it off and sew a new waistband on.
