  • Undervolting really seems to be the best option in terms of GPU optimization for the 3000 series. Be it a 3090, 3080, 3070 or even a 3060 Ti, I’d still recommend doing it. If you do it properly, you’re gonna lose virtually 0 performance or even get an increase, while dramatically reducing heat and power consumption. Today we are featuring an RTX 3070 Ti PNY XLR8 with three fans and using a 750W 80 Plus Gold Corsair PSU!
    We used MSI Afterburner, here's the download link: www.msi.com/pa...
    The software in the background is Heaven Benchmark, here's the link: benchmark.unig...

    After testing this for over 24 hours, the temperatures dropped by massive 20-25 degrees, the noise went down by a massive level as my fans are not longer full speed, and my FPS did not drop a single frame, instead they indeed increased by a minimal amount but the important part is I did not lose performance, you were right about the VRAM overclocking, you were right about the curve, you were right about the VRAM. You saved me from trying that ridiculous copper plate mod for my GPU that I was about to try and open more holes in my cases with a drill for more fans, saying I am impressed by this is quite the understatement.

    • @BlueCombPL
      @BlueCombPL Год назад

      This guide is a total-fatal BS. You MUST NOT lower the frequency curve below factory one - otherwise, you're in fact OVERVOLTING your GPU.

    • @knben
      @knben Год назад +1

      What do you mean? Correct me if I'm wrong but GPUs use more voltage coming out of the factory than they actually need in order to ensure stability under all circumstances, especially heavy loads. Undervolting it decreases the heat output thus increasing the card's lifetime. If you are careful, you are not compromising system stability, only reducing heat.

    • @BlueCombPL
      @BlueCombPL Год назад +1

      @@knben that's right, but to do that, you should shift your WHOLE clock speed curve to the left. In Afterburner you can't do that, so it should be moved upwards, to make GPU run higher frequencies at desired voltages OR desired clock speed at lower voltages - that's essentialy the same. If you do this as shown, it will maintain that speed and voltages, but ONLY in that one point. If GPU hits power limit it will perform worse than in factory settings and will be less efficient.
      So, you should move your curve upwards and than flatten it at your desired clock speed. That's almost perfect way.
      I recently undervolted my 1070 to 750 mV @ 1620 MHz (+200 MHz above stock) and dropped 1/3 of its factory wattage (from 150 to 100 watts), losing only 5% of its performance.

RTX 3070 Ti is one of the most power-inefficient card in RTX 30 series which draws much more power than the RTX 3070 with not much increase in the performance, and just slightly lower power draw than the 3080 but 3080 has a bigger memory and core clock and also much faster than 3070 Ti. So, undervolting and overclocking at the same time would be perfect for the 3070 Ti. In my country, the price has dropped drastically and it's practically on par with the 3070.

This card most of the time stays between 1800MHz and 1900MHz, rarely going past 1920MHz, so I looked for the lowest voltage closer to 1900. I lost no fps at all but power consumption got down from 185W, now it sits comfortably at 125W

    Glad this has worked for you + others. I have the exact same GPU & CPU as you and I'd previously used the MSI automatic OC feature to generate a more aggressive curve. I reset MSI to default from my custom profile and dialed in the basic adjustment (1900mhz @ 900mV) with +1000 mem clock and ended up losing 5-6 fps. The benchmark was at least stable so I thought I'd try your 2nd approach with adjustments to the core clock at multiple voltage points. On retry, the benchmark kept crashing.
    If cooling was a concern for others, I could 100% see this being a practical help. However, It may be worth just letting MSI do it's thing with the auto curve generation (takes 10-15 mins) and then compare the two. Thanks for the tips and if nothing else helps reassure that I'm getting optimal performance from my card... which is always the end goal :)

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  Год назад +4

      Well you’re effectively comparing an overclock to an undervolt in a position where your goal clearly is absolute performance and you’re not looking to improve your temperatures and/or reduce your power consumption. If that’s your goal, you should look to overclock, not to undervolt! And for that I have a dedicated tutorial on my channel, made with the same build, in which I detail how to manually overclock your card in case you’d like to get a bit more than the automatic curve out of it!

  • @chriss9542
    @chriss9542 3 месяца назад

    I dont typically leave reviews. I have a Gigabyte RTX3070 and was constantly crashing because of the temperatures it would reach. I've had it for 4 years now. Working in I.T. the first thing that is taught is to do the least invasive/disruptive stuff first. In this case, it was looking up this video. I tested this among 3 games, Strangers of Paradise, Baldur's Gate 3, and Calisto Protocol. All of them were hitting 81-83C (Roughly 178F- 181F). After testing for 3 hours ,roughly an hour per game. The range my GPU would hit is 65C-68C(149F - 155F). No crashes and clearly a noticeably different degree and sound change! Im not for bloatware at all, but in this case; I can't say this is bloatware if it is helping as much as it has. A year old video that has helped me a ton!
    Edit: Mind you, my GPU and CPU are not set to overclock before or after this video. Very well done.

    Question though, when you say that it could usually get away with 1925 @ 900mV, does that take into account the 15mhz jumps due to boosting? Meaning it'd sit at 1940 occasionally. Or should I set it to 1910 instead so it peaks at 1925?

    Damn, looking at comments and find so many people finding this helpful is so satisfying. I got a 3070ti after my 2080 that was all time undervolted, but the new one is really hot, specially the vrams wich hit 100 celsius, so i think instead doing overclock to it an underclock may help it to cool a bit down. Anyway this is a fantastic settinga that everyone with a g.card should use...

    Bro, con mi Asus Tuf Gaming RTX 3070 TI (La compré usada hace poco) llegaba por preset a los 1980 / 1960 MHz con los relojes de memoria a 9500 MHz, pero consumía casi los 300 Watts... con unas temperaturas de 70 / 74 grados bajo carga en juegos. Assasin Creed Valhalla gráficos Ultra a 120 FPS, después del segundo método bajó a 60 grados bajo carga y apenas bajó ligeramente unos FPS y el consumo disminuyó radicalmente a casi !150 Watts! Muy agradecido con tu tutorial, tu explicación lo hizo todo más fácil. Gracias.

    Hey, just a question, why do you start with -200mhz on the core clock ? In laptops you bring it all the way down to -300, and some other tutorials dont even do that. Just want to understand this step. Thanks

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  5 месяцев назад

      It depends on how high the delta in the idle-to-load jump is. It is card dependent, so it will be different on laptops or certain GPUs :)

    thank you for the great & simple tutorial. Could you explain why pulling upwards means reducing the volt?
    i saw there are 2 curves. What does the first (upper) line & the bottom one mean?

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  Год назад +2

      The voltage is on the X axis, so by pulling upwards we're increasing the clock for a certain voltage! The upper curve is just the "original" curve, it's not in bald as you can see :) Just follow the tutorial and you'll be alright :)

    Great video thank you, I created the two profiles of the video and two more, so far it is working very well, memory clock I havent tried though because I'm afraid it might cause it to get hotter, can I do it without any concearns? and it gives more performance?

    • @ImWateringPSUs

      I'm really happy about it! Overclocking the memory does increase the temperature by 1 or 2 degrees, but it's safe! You can definitely do without it, it's all about what you need performance wise! It's also not quite as important to overclock the memory if you're playing at lower resolutions!

    Nice tutorial thank you! You maked me try this undervolting thing, and it works great.. I have a ASUS tuf gaming rtx 3070ti oc card with 3 fans.. I can set it at 900mv at 1890mhz, but i goes up to 1905mhz sometimes it goes down to 1875mhz, when gaming, i thing its because its a oc card? but its fine, if i reach 1920mhz it begins to crash. I can set my memory clock at +1425, i had saved about 80-90w on top, and my temps dont go over 52c on heavy load i saved 8-9c, i have to point out i got Noctua fans in my case 3000rpm, but they do not run at max speed, at GPU temp 52c i have set them to run 40%, the one at the buttom front and the back fan. The top front fan is controlled with the CPU temp and it works togetter with the aio cooler fans i have set in the top at my case.. I have also set the temp limit at 86, its seems to get rid of my little GPU usage drops i have strogled with along time..

      A 30Mhz fluctuation is normal, nothing to worry about! If you REALLY wanted to lock it you could hit the “L” key on the curve. REALLY nice clocks and temperatures by the way, love the setup with the Noctuas as well! Take care man :)
