This is the only video that explained it to where I understand the line and the load, and 240 vs. 120 and where everything should land properly and to read the directions of course. Thank you.
This is the Best Video I have seen on RUclips explaining "line and the load", and "240 vs. 120" and where everything should land properly and to read the directions of course. Thank you!!
very well explained and in detail, the only thing I would have done was marked the white wire with either black or red tape to show that it is being used as a hot wire, not a neutral.
I also would have marked the wires as dictated by the NEC. Your choice was with black or red tape. I often use black or red heat shrink. I have also used black or red permanent marker. In my adopted standard of consistency, I always put my Red wire on the Right side. So if using 2 wire romex, I would heat shrink (mark) the white line conductor RED, then match up the RED load connector and land on the RIGHT side. Of course, black line and load conductors match on the left side. This makes for a tidy installation and logical troubleshooting if ever needed.
@@jamesborton9237 It deoes not matter since both "red" and "blcak" wires are connected to the exact same buss in the main panel and both carry IDENTICAL 120 volts VAC.
Thanks, man. I am going to install this same GE model right now and I feel confident this will go smoothly by following your explicit and well-explained instructions. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Thank you for the video and working through it with the camera in the way. The camera was right where viewers needed it and right where you didn't need it :)
Excellent/very descriptive video for explaining line and load and wire placement for disconnect installation....best video I have found on this specific installation! GREAT JOB
Wow... I've been looking for a detailed instructional video on how to install a disconnect and finally found it! Excellent job explaining how to install this box to a layperson.
Thank you Ricky ! This is the best video on AC disconnect. Im working on a tankless water heater. I will most definitely, give you a shot out on my tankless water heater video. on my Handyman Land DIY video. Thanks again...
Great video! I'm a DIYer doing home improvements in a house I bought last year and I put one of these in to bring my hot water heater up to code. I am going through my house ripping out walls, redoing ungrounded wiring and updating it and adding missing insulation to exterior and interior walls. Thanks for providing a very detailed video, I feel confident I can do it myself!!!
Oh my goodness... I'm so so happy I came across your video. I did everything to my 12000 hessaire and everything is all hooked up and I couldn't find out the power not coming to unit... And found that the line and load were transposed and I had it wired in series . 😝 But thank you so much , when you said I needed to land these two most important parts of the Disconnect I finally saw the light and it was right there all along! All day and last night . I appreciate your video. Take care and Aloha 🌺
This was a great description of why the white is hot and not neutral on a two pole breaker - made a lot of sense the way you explained it thank you for doing this video!
When the white is being used as a HOT wire, it is required to be marked in some fashion. I would have used some RED heat shrink to indicate it was a hot wire. I also would have then put both reds on one side and both blacks on the other to make future inspections or troubleshooting simpler.
Fantastic video. I've watched a few others and still had questions. I was still unsure enough that I was leaning towards paying someone to install my disconnect. I'm glad I watched one more video, and I'm very happy it was your video. Going through this, step by step, the way you did is what I needed to see. I'm now confident that I can do this job. Thank you very much.
God bless your heart Ricky what a perfect demonstration and now i know my landlord sabotaged me. 🕊️ The truth shall set you free and you just did. I hope something wonderful happens to you for helping me 🌹
Excellent video for learning how to do this. I was so confused about the 240 use of the white wire as hot before watching this. Now I have got it straight. Thanks a bunch.
@@rickyjewett6082 no this video helped tremendously. My point was you explained this simple and perfect. I watched 45 mins worth of other people's videos that didnt explain what you explained in just a few
Ricky: Let me start by saying your video is hands down the best one on how to install an ac disconnect , very thorough and well explained. But my experience was anything but good. My first hurdle was that my box was mounted to stucco and brick. That by itself really shouldn't have been a problem except the installer of the box I replaced used "nails" to mount the box. So it wasn't just a matter of unscrewing the box, I had to pry it off and to make it worse the box was sealed around the outside edges with stucco. So first I had to chip away the stucco, then get under the box with chisels and pry the box off. Then once I got the old box off the new one was smaller so none of the original holes lined up. So I had to drill new holes, but the old ones were just close enough to the old ones that it made that task a challenge. Ok so I got it mounted up and all connected, then went to put the cover on to learn the cover slides in behind the box and the backing plate was tight to the wall so I had to chip away more of the stucco than I wanted, but I finally got the cover on. I then turned on the power after making sure all connections were correct and very firmly in. I couple minutes later my unit kicked in and its working beautifully! I made the process more difficult by installing a box that was smaller, upgraded from a 30 amp to a 60 and from a pull out disconnect to a switched disconnect. I wanted Square D, that was just my preference. Mostly because I have found them to be a better quality than most others and Im just more familiar with that brand. Sorry for the long winded comment but I thought people should know its not as easy as it looks. Probably best to just stay with the same size and amperage box if you just want to replace your box. Thank you for your video, you were tremendously helpful.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. This is the most basic part of installing the disconnect. What I'm looking for is how you run the wires from the service panel to the disconnect, how you shield the wires externally (I noticed in your video that the Romex is not in any conduit....is that to code??), how you mount the box to the wall, etc. I need to know what I need to do to meet code.
Hi! I just want to say thank you for your video. I know the risk that can occur when you are not licensed; however, I was able to save $600 by connecting a new disconnect box myself because of you. I initially connected the wires incorrectly and was slightly shocked. I then watched your video and followed the directions in my manual, which stated where the line and load wires go. So, sending a huge THANK YOU 😊
Dude I'm glad I watched your video before I turned the power on my mini split. I had the wires wrong like you said on one side and didn't see the little writing.
Love the explanation and everything including the safety of amperage Gauges difference between 120 and 240 application. Its a good one because the repetition of the most important things. Line and load... good stuff.. thanks for your help im doing. My own but with the 120 its a lot simpler. different colors. I never label my wires but i need to so it is up to "code" but usually if i installed in correctly i remember
Ricky, you did a very hood job tutoring this procedure. The same non fused box often is used for submersible well pump disconnects. I have a very old disconnect that is missing the hinged lid so I am on here looking to see if there is any new stuff. I have this same box ordered from Amazon since our local Lowe’s Home Improvement currently has no non fused boxes on hand. Go figure. Thanks for your post. Good job.
I’m glad you mentioned, depending on what disconnect you have, to read the instructions first because I was thrown off with how the wiring was being done in this video. The reason why I say that is because I just installed a disconnect where the power coming from the breaker box connects in your two lines and your equipment is your load wich were on the two outside

The best explained video I seen out of dozens...you need to identify that neutral as hot for dummies like me with tape or paint
