    This is just like ThatsRealNeato's Noteworthy Interactions series. Awesome to see more content creators taking up that concept. :D It's a great way to show newer players what we mean when we say PoE is complex game that rewards creative build combinations (especially since none of those skills, keystones or items is part of a pre-defined set item combo, or even mentions the others) and giving old players new build ideas.

      Although I think it might have been better to make this video in the run up to the new league, especially after the Crucible patch notes are dropped. That's when people will begin planning out new builds, and when people will start returning to the game (and, by extension, its content creators) and looking for new ideas for builds they want to try. This is definitely the kind of thing that'd fire up some people's neurons upon hearing of it, but at this time of league I'm not sure how many would. We're still in the dead period now.

      I got screwed as I picked blood magic and it got rid of many. Skill cost life and this only helps if you take hits not self inflicted low low life due to the loss being from life spent on skills. I also use life based spells like reap, exonerate and body swap. I have to find a way to fix this somehow.

    Fantastic video! Only one additional notable thing I’d like to add. Reserving Life with Arrogance does NOT lower your EHP with Dissolution. Let me explain.
    I have 5000 life and I reserve 2500 of it with auras + Arrogance. I take a hit for 3000. I don’t die, even though I’ve only got 2500 left to reserve with Dissolution. Why? Because the moment Dissolution tries to reserve 2501 or more of my life, my Arrogance auras disable themselves immediately, giving me the full 5k as reservation space for Dissolution.
    Now, it’s not ideal to have auras popping off, especially if they are defensive layers, but you can just turn them back on once the Dissolution reservation clears-effectively letting you reserve your life without a significant loss to your overall EHP.

      This is a great interaction that I've now tested in-game and wasn't aware that this was a thing. I'm not sure if this is a bug, where Dissolution somehow has a priority for reserving life before reservation skills(this is what I would expect is the case) or whether it is an intended interaction(which I highly doubt). Regardless, this makes Dissolution generally stronger because the non-Dissolution builds that also run EB always have the advantage of being able to run an additional aura through Divine Blessing spent against energy shield, and that is one of the obviously huge weak points of the jewel is that you cannot have that option.

    Correct me if I misunderstand: wiki says petrified blood only protects the lower half, meaning you take the first 50% full, giving you only 133% max hit.
    By the way, another argument against life leech as a recovery mechanism would be that the overleech stops when you reach 50% reservation which could turn out pretty dangerous. The same happens for strength of blood less taken, although probably after calculating the lowlife part of the damage.
    One thing I was wondering about as well, if you take dmg below half, recoup might not bring you up to half because there is nothing to recoup during the reservation. Or if DoT bypasses the reservation. Could this ever be an issue? Probably not, right? If it was, the new instant leech mastery could help.
    Last point that comes to mind, strength of blood should also have a little interaction with Jugg Untiring or Divine Shield, although in that case you cannot have Vaal Pact and say 30% leech only lead to ~3,1% of phys dmg taken as regen over 10 seconds, increased by recovery & regen rate.

    • @dreamcore_gg
      @dreamcore_gg  Год назад +3

      So, on the first point, your actual life is at 50% because you are using petrified blood. But dissolution makes it so that any damage you take is reserved as life reservation. This means that when you get hit, you are considered to be on 50% of life for the purpose of the petrified blood defensive mechanic, but you begin to reserve life, starting at the top, even reserving the life that you do not have because this is how reservation works(you can always reserve a resource that you do not have, ex. you have 250/500 mana, you can reserve determination for 50% of mana and you still have 250 mana to use). This means that by using dissolution, you can essentially use the petrified blood defensive mechanic to defend against your entire life pool(for hits), rather than just the lower half.
      On the second point, you are absolutely correct that leech(and therefore strength of blood) would stop if damage caused you to reserve 50% or more of your life, and that is definitely a downside of that mechanic. Although this is only likely to present a problem in the scenario where you are using strength of blood as oppose to using leech as a recovery mechanic. This is because the strength of blood less damage taken modifier starts to become very inconsistent and unreliable if you don't have overleech, however in the case that you use leech for recovery, you still only need to be able to recover from petrified blood's life loss mechanic, which will continue to happen even without overleech.
      On the recoup point, as long as you have enough recoup, the life loss mechanic from petrified blood cannot kill you, and therefore the recoup will always be topped off at your maximum recoverable life. Recoup doesn't stop when you reach the maximum recoverable amount like leech, so it will continue to perfectly counter the life loss mechanic. For example, even if you take a bunch of big hits and reserve 80% of your life, your actual life will still sit at 20% because the recoup perfectly counters the life loss from petrified blood. This could only be a problem if you spend life as a resource for example on skill costs, at which point you'd need additional recovery sources in place to counter those skill costs if necessary. Damage over time cannot bypass the reservation, as any damage you take is reserved as life.
      On the last point, yes the less damage taken modifier will contribute to prevented damage for the purpose of untiring or divine shield. However, as you mention, the lack of vaal pact makes strength of blood considerably weaker - you would be able to use vaal pact with divine shield, but since we're using dissolution, we have no energy shield!

      @mammutmkii7242 Год назад

      @@dreamcore_gg Thank you for the detailed responses, especially after just 3h ^^
      Okay, first point: I understood the reservation part and did doubt the first half of your statement that PB applies to the entirety of your unreserved life pool, rather than just the bottom half like the gem states. I thought it just applies to the reservation instead, which it does not. Basically a misconception regarding the order of operations. Let me explain: The way I thought the PB degen would bypass the reservation mechanic (instead of reserving over time) would simply be that you first have Dissolution turn all life loss from damage into reservation and then petrified blood partially working with reservation instead, reserving the hit part and still applying the LLoT somehow. Or actually not working with reservation at all because there simply isn't any life loss happening anymore after dissolution. It's obviously not the second one, but for the first one it would be logical to me that PB only kicks in when you reach 50% reservation. And I probably thought that because of the wording.
      They way I now think it works though is that you have PB first and then Dissolution (as per the taking damage wiki page) and that the LLoT doesn't lead to reservation because Dissolution specifies "by taking Damage" while PB probably turns itself into the source of loss. Something like that.
      Neither is ideal without overleech but I actually meant leech as a recovery mechanic to be riskier. The less damage taken is lost at a point where you have already tanked huge damage, the rest of your life having regular mitigation is fine if you manage to avoid subsequent hits. Now I'd say this combo works best against huge hits once every few seconds and can't handle persistent damage very well anyways. So unless in situations where you tank huge damage in multiple hits like Sirus beam, you are relatively fine.
      As a recovery mechanic, however, I am again reserved below 50% because I have just taken huge damage. I have a degen that will kill me within 2-3 seconds if I don't recover life, but my leech has to be built again. I suppose that can be pretty hectic, you have to get onto a target and start leeching immediately or you die.
      I get that, but let's say you get reduced to 10%, an equivalent recoup will only counter the degen, leaving you at 10%. Even if you have more recoup than necessary, your damage taken plus the two seconds can stop after the recoup from the big damage has already run out, also not always bringing you back to 50%. My question was more if there are any circumstances where permanently sitting at just 10% actual life after unreserving has any effect. Life costs are one example, anything else? Small reductions to recovery that you usually don't notice but that could deal chip damage in this setup or so? If no, recoup is perfect. If yes, you perhaps still want something else to reliably get back to 50%. So that's why I asking, does anything come to mind, enemies, items? Aside from DoTs of course, which you just have to immune against if you don't want to life flask.
      Certainly! I was just thinking about alternative interactions, not necessarily involving these combos. In that case, petrified blood would only act as a source of overleech and yeah, you only get like 19% less but that's still quite something. With Vaal Pact the amount of mitigation becomes just insane though, if a Marauder has defy pain and a handful of points in those max leech rate nodes you can reach like 56% less, I think. You still need a recovery mechanism aside from recoup, such as Dissolution, but Pathfinder life flasks could also work. Or, although probably not practical due to distance on the tree, ES since all the ES mechanics should still be available.
      But yeah, the combo you presented has really good synergy even if Dissolution could be problematic in normal gameplay. It basically goes "Dissolution -> PD because of the interaction for way more max HP -> a small investment into recoup as the perfect recovery against PB -> leech and regen are now obsolete -> reuse of leech for Strength of Blood -> reuse of regen to double Strength of blood effect". Very elegant problem solving and use of ressources.

    • @dreamcore_gg
      @dreamcore_gg  Год назад +1

      @@mammutmkii7242 On the first point: It works this way because Dissolution doesn't change anything about your life, it only interacts with how you take damage. Your actual life is still at 50% or less so the PB buff is always active. It doesn't matter that you are now reserving life, because you are still taking damage from hits, and your life is still at 50% or less, so PB works as it always would. Also, the life loss over time mechanic is not reservation because it is not considered to be damage over time. The life loss mechanic from PB is never damage over time, even when used without Dissolution - as an example, you can take a hit with PB when you have ES, and the life loss from PB will not stop ES recharge from starting, because you are not taking damage. All of the damage is taken in the instance when you receive the hit, and then PB prevents some of the damage from the hit and begins the life loss over time.
      I absolutely agree that leech is probably the least ideal recovery mechanic, as it becomes the worst recovery mechanic when you are vulnerable(reserving over 50% life), where as you say, you need to continually reapply leech instances to recover from the life loss mechanic.
      On the third point, I think I understand what you are saying - there are a few things; I believe there is a rare monster modifier that has a nova skill that places a debuff on you that reduces your recovery rate of life and ES, so that would be bad in this situation. Maven's final phase moving beams also stop recovery. I don't think that there are any normal monster skills that have this effect though, other than the rare modifier.
      Yeah it's one of the more interesting interactions in the game, and Dissolution is one of the most 'unique' unique items in the game with how it actually impacts your character and gameplay.

    • @mammutmkii7242
      @mammutmkii7242 Год назад

      @@dreamcore_gg I know I am arguing semantics now but the game is usually very exact when it comes to phrasing and so it's important to understand why it actually works the way it does. I think this is not the right reasoning since both effects are about losing life which is already past the steps of mitigating the damage and taking it to all other ressources, at least according to the wiki.
      I read Dissolution as exactly saying "life loss (from damage) -> reservation" and I still think that's how it works, but after PB did its thing and not before. But I thought it had to come before PB because I think I missed the "from damage" detail of Dissolution.
      If PB comes before, it's clear why it would think that you are about to lose life below 50%. The PB loss over time, I didn't assume that the life loss over time was DoT in the sense that that damage is applied in the sense the RF degen is, it's clearly just loss as it can't be mitigated any further, taken from mana etc.
      Now, Dissolution doesn't specify "damage taken" but "life loss from damage", and originally, the loss is from damage. So I was wondering why the loss over time does not cause reservation as it should be the very same "life loss" term that Dissolution is using. And I think the reason is that it's not "from damage" anymore, it's "from petrified blood buff" in the same way blood rage life loss is not "from damage", even though the loss was originally caused by damage in the case of PB.
      Now that you mention it, there seem to be a handful of enemies using frost bomb if that's the skill you are referring to. Luckily that's regen rate, though, so not affecting recoup. True, maven beams have that annoying effect. The beam may be DoT which this combo can't recover from anyways, but any subsequent hits will now deal more total damage than usual. That phase is probably as much fun for this combo as it is for RF...

    • @dreamcore_gg
      @dreamcore_gg  Год назад

      @@mammutmkii7242 I looked the modifier up, it's the recovery monster affix - 'Periodically casts a Healing Nova that causes nearby allies to regenerate 10% of life over 2 seconds. Healing Nova applies a Verdant Spores debuff causing 60% reduced Recovery Rate of Life and Energy Shield for a duration (8 second cooldown, 5 second global cooldown)', so yeah it would unfortunately effect Recoup.
      I do get what you are saying, but I disagree that the interaction isn't just doing exacty what it says. PB buff prevents 40% of the damage of a hit, which is then lost over time(not damage) if you are on low life. The reason that this is not damage is because the hit damage cannot be translated into damage over time as that would cause all manner of problems. So all of the hit damage is actually taken at the point of the hit, but some of it is prevented and instead lost over time. We know that all of the hit damage is actually taken because of the amount of life you recover through recoup, which is based on 100% of the hit. Now, Dissolution makes you reserve life when you take damage, so when you are hit, you are actually taking all of the damage of the hit, but 60% is reserved and the rest is lost over time, again this is not damage so it cannot reserve life. Reserving life above 50% is irrelevant because this is just how reservation works, it's not something to do with Dissolution. Because your actual life is on low life, you will always benefit from the PB buff. This is how I see it and I don't feel that there are any special interactions going on here, just those two mechanics functioning together as they are. I appreciate the conversation though, I love PoE mechanics!

    Good video though it would help to provide some examples of this in use on real builds.

      This is a fair point, but I think it really depends on the interaction itself - this one is quite broad in application, you could really apply it to many things

    Hello,
    Great content and very well made videos :)
    I'm becoming alergic to this generic, "commercial", mainstream, influencer, whatever.. way of speaking. I would love a less robotic naration and more a human to hear. More of you, your personality, would add more value to the "community" you're trying to build.

      I really appreciate that, however it's an AI voiceover that I use for these videos - a little backstory on that, I made videos a while back(around league 3.15) many people complained about my actual voice :D I understand that the AI voice is also not for everybody, apples and oranges, can't please everybody unfortunately!

      @@dreamcore_gg Oh, I though it was you speaking, it's a good voice over! Surely, it is a hard work to add real naration, a full-fledged job.

      @@dreamcore_gg Are you using the Eleven Labs AI voice? I think they have a variety of choices to choose from if that helps.

    Informative but hard to focus on monotonous robot voice. Real people don't speak like that!

    But all the leech and all the recovery does NOTHING for you when using Dissolution of the Flesh. You don't need life - you just need max life.

      Except you absolutely do need recovery if you are using Petrified Blood, unless you want to die from the life loss from prevented damage.
