Thanks for visiting our city and celebrating Dia de los Muertos with us guys, I’m actually living in Milwaukee Wis. right now but watching this video I feel like I’m in Oaxaca.
Hello from fellow Canadians! Great video! We watched a lot of videos on the Day of the Dead and yours was the only one that fully explained the elements of the ofrenda. So interesting! You did a phenomenal job capturing the culture. ❤
That means so much to us! We weren’t sure if it was too much info about the ofrenda but to us that is one of the most important aspects of the holiday so it deserved explanation ☺️ So glad you enjoyed it 🥰
Yes guys, the day of the death is the day people is more alive than ever, music, food, parade, dancing, joy celebration, it’s definitely a day to remember that our lives are short and soon we will be with our loved ones who already left
hi, im from oaxaca i love see the reaction of the turist, i love your video because you respect the moment in the cementery, i really apreciate that, is grate for us, thank ypu, many people like you visit us, and thank you for share the culture and the good things that you see
Oh my 😮Oaxaca is a magic place, is the only state in Mexico where you can find everything, culture, music, food, environment and more ,but of curse every state in mexico is a single world that you have to discover in person
Día de Muertos IS NOT ABOUT CELEBRATING DEATH. Día de Muertos is all about celebrating the victory of love over death. Relatives, friends, even pets die, but their bond to the living remains and so does love.
I was just in Oaxaca 3 weeks ago, and it was absolutely beautiful!! I definitely want to go back for día de muertos on my next visit. Can’t recommend it enough.
Hey you two, thanks for this amazing video! I was fortunate enough to get to celebrare dia de los muertos in Oaxaca 5 years ago and this video made me feel like I was there again! You did a beautiful job of capturing the insanity but I also learned a few new facts so great job! It also made me weirdly emotional watching… Thanks for sharing your journey with us 🧡💛 can’t wait for more México content
It would be better if you spoke spanish and mingle with the Mexican people or unless your here as a tourist I understand your here temporarily. The Germans are the only serious people to learn to speak spanish or mingle with the Mexican people to learn the spanish slain street language . They told me they try to stay away from their country men speaking german tourists . I met so many Germans in Mexico as mexican citizens or planning to become one or by marriage .
Such a fun vid. And indeed, that change in perspective from death as a mournful thing (inward/self), to something that reveres and celebrates those who came before (outward/others) is really an eye opening one. So glad you two had that experience. 💀❤️
Good history around the elements being part of the parade, when Sarah called orange as yellow, took me back to those videos where people saw same image as blue vs black? Also, if Eric gets replaced, I will unfollow this channel😂 great fun video again
That was such a weird time in life with those different colour images/dresses 🤯 Totally forgot about that! And don’t worry… Eric’s not going anywhere 😉😂
Great work guys! this was an awesome video! I'd like to know what your main vlogging lense is? I saw on your amazing page the tamron 24-70mm however this looks like. a wider lense. Thank you :)
Thanks so much, friends! Glad you liked it. We actually just purchased a 16mm f2.8 RF lens for our Canon R6. It’s definitely helped getting more into the frame. But I’m seriously considering getting a 15-35mm 2.8m lens (without spending all our money haha) I like the prime lens, but for this kind of stuff it’s fun to be more dynamic with a zoom. But I really do recommend getting a wide prime just to see how you like it!
You were no expecting that? Nobody was. The celebration has been deformed to cater to tourist, its all about keeping tourist entertained. That is far from the real traditions of Dia de Muertos. Now is just a big show with parades and parties that are not traditional at all.
Thanks for watching! It was fun celebrating with the thousands of Mexicans who were also clearly enjoying the festival. Though many things may not be traditional, they are super fun and still add to the celebration of LIFE!
@@judeo2125 well it does celebrate both! It celebrates death by acknowledging that life isn’t forever and needs to be appreciated! Our understanding is the celebration very much celebrates life and death!
@@EricandSarah there are two key components to the holiday: 1) To honor our beloved ones who are no longer with us. The ancestral belief is that for a few hours, once a year, they come in spirit to spend time among the living. Notice, they come to visit us, not us visiting them. That's why we give them offerings specific to what they enjoyed in life. As our guests, we take care of our guests... Mexicans are world-known for being great hosts and not obnoxious like in some other places... 2) We paint our faces as skeletons (Catrín, masculine; Catrina, feminine) and have some parades, joke a lot, and yes! mock death (in the form of the grave reaper) precisely because we understand that death is the logical conclusion to life. We never mock any particular person who has died, but death in general. The Mexican mentality is that "you're going to take us eventually, but before you do, "screw you!", we're going to take a few jabs at you... thus, making fun of death in that way is in fact a celebration of life... It's completely a celebration of life, not death... Even psychologically, it's a much healthier way of dealing with mortality than the bitter depressing way in which it's dealt with in other countries...
RECOMENDACIONES A LOS EXTRANJEROS!!! CUIDEN SUS PERTENENCIAS CUANDO VENGAN EN ESTE TIPO DE EVENTOS... HAY MUCHAS PERSONAS QUE DESGRACIADAMENTE COMETE ROBOS DE CELULARES, BOLSOS Y CARTERAS. ESTO LE PASO A MUCHOS CIUDADANOS LOCALES Y EXTRANJEROS. LAS PERSONAS QUE ROBAN SIEMPRE EMPUJAN MUCHO PARA DISTRAERTE Y TOMAR TUS PERTENENCIAS... MUCHO OJO Y BIENVENIDOS
No hay necesidad de hacer esos comentarios fomentando la de por si mala imagen y ensuciando la alegria de esta celebración. Es innecesaria cuando de antemano se sabe que en multitudes en CUALQUIER lugar del mundo eso acontece!!
Looks like both the Zapotec and Aztec peoples had beliefs around celebrating life in the embrace of death. The concepts were combined with the Spanish as well!
OMG! You are making me so nostalgic about Oaxaca! I love it. I'm now looking into the city as a retirement destination. Thanks for the fun video. The food is so awesome, right?!
I would love to go there for Dia de Muertos. I was looking at flying into Huatulco as that seems the only way from waaaay up northern Ontario. BUT the flight from there to Huatulco is just as much and takes you on a long flight.🤔
I am glad that you enjoyed this celebration in my country and you liked it. I just want to reiterate that these days are not a party, they are more like a sacred ritual, you enjoyed and respected the festivity, but please do not catalog it simply as "an experience" since for us, Mexicans, it is not a experience or a carnival, these are days to honor our dead and it is something sacred, not a simple experience like going to a concert or skydiving.
The ancientries understood the life is a miracle and this celebration is for the live and dead, finally the nature work needs both as oposites complementaries, so with this cosmetology all in the universe need opposite to keep equilibrium.
dude, those tourist that you say that are not respecting? they think the same of you... the truth is that is not your culture, and there are not your dead relatives the one you are traveling to see. you are also an observer in the middle of a family tradition... you dont like tourist ? dont go there.
A lot of people seemed happy that we were there. Lots of smiles and very friendly - but we were being as respectful as possible. If the community didn't want us there, I think they would make it known and it would be closed to tourists. We were just making an observation about the importance of respect in these situations. There is always a right and wrong way to do something.
Oaxaca, ojala algun dia esos RUclipsrs hagan algo bien!
No seas delicado mi estimado micho.
I appreciate you paying attention to your community and taking the time to respond to comments. In this case, mine wants to make known a big problem that is happening in my state (Oaxaca). Gentrification directly and indirectly affects the population, since thanks to it prices rise exponentially more in the central areas, turning Oaxaca into a place for people who pay for it. I know that your job as an influencer is to share your experiences whose point you have made and it is not your intention to promote gentrification but you do so indirectly. Respeto tu contenido que es de muy buena calidad pero como ya dije solo quiero dar a conocer la problematica de mi estado
RECOMMENDATIONS TO FOREIGNERS!!! TAKE CARE OF YOUR BELONGINGS WHEN YOU COME TO THIS TYPE OF EVENTS... THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO UNFORTUNATELY COMMIT THEFT OF CELL PHONES, BAGS AND WALLETS. THIS HAPPENED TO MANY LOCAL AND FOREIGN CITIZENS. PEOPLE WHO STEAL ALWAYS PUSH A LOT TO DISTRACT YOU AND TAKE YOUR BELONGINGS... BE CAREFUL AND WELCOME

What a CRAZY Week! Do you celebrate Dia de Muertos?
Such an incredible celebration that I'm SO glad I got to experience with you two!! VIVA OAXACA! 🇲🇽
SAME GIRL!! Now can’t wait for your series 🤩

This has got to be one the best videos you’ve done yet! Awesome. Seems like a lot more stuff happening than what we experienced in Puerto Vallarta.
Thanks!! That means a lot. Maybe next year we should do a group trip to Oaxaca 😉
Yes guys, the day of the death is the day people is more alive than ever, music, food, parade, dancing, joy celebration, it’s definitely a day to remember that our lives are short and soon we will be with our loved ones who already left

Cant wait to watch this video soon! But just have to say AMAZING THUMBNAIL! Well worth the early face-paint for the pictures👌
Thanks friends!! We’re super happy with how it turned out 😄
You got the meaning wrong. Its actually a celebration of life!

We do speak Spanish and mingle with Mexicans but most of them prefer not to be on camera so we respect that 😊

Fabulous and educational video! So colorful and vibrant. Looks like you guys had a great time and it looks quite safe there.
Enjoy!

It's such an important event and beautiful parade. We really appreciate the constant uploads! 🎉
Cool. Real cool video! Watching the video on the “Day of the Dead” makes one appreciate the difference in our cultures.
Definitely! So cool to experience different perspectives ☺️
