No video output included
The refresh rate thing is stupid to compare.
That's the advantage of CRT over LCD or OLED or whatever we use these days. It's not Apple's fault LCDs can't adjust its refresh rate like CRTs do. Not to mention, their Pro monitor that has separate stand is actually 5K.

You only have 50k subs? The quality of The video was so good
i honestly had never noticed this 🤯
to be 100% honest I don't want him to get more subs so he can interact with his fans
This is by far my favourite episode on this channel so far. I love the quality and the effort put into this. 10/10 👌
Dang that cleaned up real nice! What a thing of beauty
The ADC connector is as you said a combination of power, usb and DVI. These can all be separated out of the cable. If you look up the pinout for the ADC connector, you can quite easily solder your own cable terminating in dvi. This will make this iconic monitor able to be connected to any modern pc.
This is mostly true, but for anyone looking to do this, there are some caveats with this. You'll need an ADC equipped Mac to "boot" the display. And this will not work with the DVI to ADC adapter that Apple sold, as this display needs the analog pins of a DVI connector (as this display is technically VGA), which the DVI to ADC adapter lacks.
Just found this channel by randomly scrolling through RUclips, what to say, clear video, concise, non repetitive, good quality and very informative, top notch!
Hey, if you want to remove the scratches I would recommend looking into a 3M headlight buffing kit, they work wonders and are great for polishing plastic, metal, paint etc...
They made a ADC to DVI adapter in the 2000's and you should be able to find one on eBay.
Also: poor gecko, good to see him free.
$499 was expensive for a CRT at the time. A top Iliyama monitor cost $199.
you're so relaxed doing commentaries like this and i love it
Your videos are so wholesome and i really like that about this channel :)

He attacc

Da Geko busy keeping that CRT in working order
Nice video! I love the old studio monitors. Can't forget about the eMac though, that was the last full on computer they made that was CRT.
Guy founds lizard kept for 6 years and frees it
Lizard : My Time Has Come
I owned one like this for awhile. It truly was a beautiful monitor! I do remember it being quite heavy like most CRT monitors. Thanks for posting. :)
4:21 Stand included 😆😆😆😆 .. Nailed it bro
Now an Apple stand cost $999
And this whole setup cost 499
That's the evolution 💰💰
You could get a splitter that gives you usb, vga, barrel jack for power.
i just found your channel and i absolutely love old tech so i find this channel amazing. instant subscription! ❤️
This popped up in my recommended and as it turns out, my Dad bought one of these at a garage sale a few months back. I had no clue about it and obviously didn't look hard enough online when looking for one. Thanks for the video, cool thing to have!
Wasn't there a 23 or 21 inch model? I heard they're one of the best CRT Displays ever made.
There was a 21" but they stopped making it when they changed to the clear case design so it the case it comes in is designed to match the power mac g3 like the older 17" monitors
It's a shame that monitors have only gotten worse since crts. We still use them every day in the editing bays and I have two for my home pc. This one just happens to be rather pretty, though.
This was a nice throwback for me. A lot of my early short films were edited on these displays. The stand is on backwards.
Nostalgia is definetly hitting me by the load seeing this! Great video!
Good video dude. I like seeing your restorations. What will you think of next?
Good question, I'll be starting my next video today. I have no idea yet 😅
Psivewri How about something other then a computer video?

Wow! I’ve never seen this monitor before! It’s beautiful!
I have the same screen in mint condition. A piece of art for sure.
0:58 *Geico. 15 minutes can save you 15 percent or more on car insurance.*
Now I want to find mine... and get a bigger desk to fit it on. :P
There is an adapter that serves as a power brick and lets you plug in to a standard DVI plug, so you can use the display with other computers. I was using one of those LCD cinema displays for a while with the adapter until my brother gave me his old monitor. :P
True! I'm probably gonna buy one of those adapters off of eBay 🙂
Psivewri I’m curious how much they are going for these days. If I remember correctly they were $100 new from Apple.
I came across your channel a couple of months ago, your one of the best Aussie channels I know.
Beautiful monitor. I still have the 23 inch LCD from the same lineup.

in 2019... $1000
Congrats on 100k
man this is the one I've been waiting for
You know that moment when you look to the back of your monitor and find a LIZARD
You need to fix the rotation - it's all skewed and doesn't look right. For me, the most noteworthy thing about this display is that its a CRT that is powered from a graphics card. No other CRT has done that. Ever.
So glad to see the lizard was safe :) Kudos - Had this exact model monitor for many years.
That was a great time for Apple when it came to design, superb looking CRT.
Nice restoration, best of luck to little gecko on the property hunting!

I suspect you've made a friend for life in that lucky gecko. Well done, as usual!
This is, without a doubt, the coolest looking monitor I've ever seen.
And then here we are in 2019, paying 999$ for a stand
No one is going to buy the stand unless they actually need to.
Back then in the time when Steve Jobs was a god
Another awesome video man, I'm glad you saved the little lizard, you earned a subscriber!
I still use a 13 inch 18 year old CRT TV. We also have a Sears CRT TV from 1980 that still works.
2:52 there is NO inherent danger in disassembling a CRT. Once the display is disconnected there is no high voltage generation anymore. The CRT can only act as a capacitor when in circuit. Touching it's anode will do absolutely nothing once it's unplugged, especially such a late model unit. Theres a high value bleeder resistor built in to discharge it before you even get the first screw out.
Even with the unit on, taking the anode cap off and holding it in one hand while grounded will only serve to damage the driving electronics. It's extremely high voltage high frequency, which means it can supply no current at all. As soon as you touch it the voltage will drop significantly and the driving transistor(s) will begin to struggle under the load. It'd be the equivalent to touching a 9 volt battery.
4:19 All CRT monitors from this era could self adjust and calibrate, but it looks like yours is doing it wrong anyways. The picture is tilted to one side in every shot.
$499 is a lot for a CRT monitor, even in 2000. LCDs were gaining traction rapidly and even the best CRTs failed to meet the image quality of a cheap LCD of the time. Less than a year later you could get an equivalent Dell or ViewSonic monitor for around $299, and those had on screen menus and automatic setup, supported many more resolutions through a more common connection, and some had internal USB hubs as well. Just like everything else, this monitor was about selling a brand name.
Well, early LCDs image quality was far worse than their CRT counterparts

I had the 21" Graphite CRT Apple display. It was a gem back then although it took so much space.
He sure loves his eucalyptus oil
Good video. I forgot about this monitor. Nice design.
That looks so rad sitting next to the power mac
I gave a friend of mine one of these that I salvaged from the trash pile at my university in 2008. He still has it in storage somewhere, with the compatible G4 to drive it.
This was very cool, this was a very nice Apple CRT Restoration.
Your bonus gecko cracked me up!
What an awesome monitor and it even comes with a free scaly friend inside, I call that a winner.
I currently run a 3 monitor set up a standard 27 in LCD, a 14 inch dell trinitron from 1996, and a massive 21 inch Apple monitor from 1999, I love the Apple monitor but the dell trinitron display is slightly discolored and it’s only 1024x768. Im considering getting that beautiful Apple one to compliment my other one!!!
You have great hair and a soothing voice. Keep doing great work!
crts with clear casings always look so rad to me
Woooow it is so amazing CRT !!!❤❤❤❤
Nice video. I always liked this display...it struck me as a real transition between Apple’s late 90s design and their titanium- and aluminum-driven future. However for all your jokes about display stands, you managed to put this one on backwards...the two “legs” should be in the front.

apple's last crt computer was the 2005 emac, i still have one
I miss their old 2560x1600 displays, I have one in the form of a HPZR30W, but man I wish
Just jerryrigeverything where it's scratches at 4 and heavy grooves at 6, psivewri have cleaning it with mentholated spirits. I really love these channels!
I love it. I remember what a deal the eMac was. I had the 733 and 1.33 ghz eMacs but I was never wealthy enough at the time to afford a Power Mac g4 and their displays until 2003 when I bought a slightly used 15 inch studio display. That was my first LCD.
I still have one of these monitors. Sitting on the floor in the back room of my house. Great looking monitor even if it is a CRT.
