    I'm always taken aback on how people can't ever admit that the Beatles, though influenced by many artists, had a way of transforming any influence and going so far ahead that they left everybody behind. In such a short period of time they made music so far ahead of their time that literally, they are still ahead and have a guaranteed place in the annals of music right there with Bach and Mozart.
    To say that the Beatles copied things from Motown to begin with, and later take drugs to do the music they did, shows a really narrow understanding of their infinite talent. When Leonard Bernstein made an analysis of the Beatles music, you see that it takes a great musician to understand their level of music. 🙏 She loves you, yes, yes yes... I read the news , today oh boy ...Woke up, fell out of bed, ... comb across my head... While my guitar gently weeps ... those lyrics.. most musicians, specially now, wouldn't be able to do it even in their dreams.

    • @songlove7777
      @songlove7777 23 дня назад +2

      Spot on! Good artists copy; great artists steal. The Beatles took what they wanted from R&B and made it completely their own. They were too deft as musicians from all those nights in Hamburg to simply have "found" their sound through not being able to replicate R&B like the stones could.

It's the sheer power and buzz of the early music that is a sensation and blew everybody away, and I'd take it over the sophisticated work they did later, great as it was. Great rock and roll has a naivety because in the end, the music is so simple. It's why we love it. Miss you, brother.

    Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (George Michael was born in 1963) in Finchley, north London, in the United Kingdom.
    And to try to get a perspective on the Beatles...I was born in 1962 in Southern California, and my parents only listened to R&B.
    I only heard Beatles music on the local AM radio stations, and I really loved their music (especially the early stuff from With the Beatles to Revolver) as a kid. But I missed the Beatles train and didn't remember any of the Beatlemainia as I was too young.
    Beatles music sounds nothing like R&B, unless they were singing cover versions (Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Arthur Alexander, Isley Brothers etc...)
    To this day, their early music is energetic and catchy.

    George is saying it a bit clumsily here. He's right to identify that the Beatles were trying to sound Motown at the very beginning, however when he infers that because they got it wrong it stood out and sounded different, he's not seeing the full picture. Yes the Stones copied the R&B more faithfully. However, the Beatles later work and their sheer mastery of sound and form should have revealed to George that they knew what they were doing right from the start. They were taking what they wanted from Black Music and deliberately making it their own. This is what is meant by "Good artists copy; great artists steal". You only have to watch McCartney playing Lady Madonna on the piano to realise you're dealing with a level of artistry that's beyond the norm. George never even played an instrument in public, which is allowed, because as a great writer and singer, no one expects him to be a top rate musician also. Same with the likes of Micheal Jackson. But the Beatles were at a level above.

    I tend to agree, early beatles is okay but its nothing special, it doesnt really do much for me to be honest. Its catchy but its just cute love songs about girls and i dont really care about that. The beatles became great when they released rubber soul and revolver, when they started to actually write songs with substance instead of i love you and she loves me type songs and they became influenced by Bob Dylan in a songwriting standpoint, thats when they became the beatles that i love.

      Ooooh! Did the deluded Stones maniac get butt hurt bcoz of facts?? Where wud Stones be if Keith the ape hadn't got his hands on 1001 ways to rework a Chuck Berry riff? Where would they be without the delivery & essence of Robert Johnson or Muddy Waters? And talking about technically better imitators, ever heard of Bluesbreakers, Small Faces or Yardbirds?? Get lost!! Stones were just better businessmen as in selling that image which has always been the case for popular music.

    Motown? The Beatles cover of "You Really Got A Hold On Me" off their second album is way better than the clunky Smokey Robinson original. Lennon's vocal is powerful, whereas Smokey had his usual whiny falsetto. Lennon injected testosterone into it. Just like what he did with "Twist and Shout". He would take these clean-cut (almost effeminate) Motown numbers and pour some Elvis Presley vocals over them and make them ten times better. What George Michael doesn't understand is that Lennon wasn't trying to sound like Smokey Robinson (he let Michael Jackson do that). Lennon was trying to sound like Elvis from "Jailhouse Rock"--and largely succeeding.
