  • PS4 Pro sound like a jet engine? Check out this video and see how you can clean your system and enjoy the silence! The one that's opened in this video is the CUH-7115B model, so if you have a different model number, there will be some differences inside, but the idea is mostly the same.
    **QUICK NOTE!**
    Be extremely careful with the power supply connection to the system board. Make sure to pull the wire and not the socket connector on the board. There is a chance you can rip the socket connector off of the board and render your PS4 Pro useless until fixed by someone with experience in soldering.

    Cleaning the heatsink (the intake of which was about 1/4 blocked by dust) and fan and applying fresh thermal paste really made a difference. It solved the fan noise and our PS4 Pro now runs quietly. In our case I suspect cleaning the heatsink made most of the difference. The instructions were very good. Thank you for posting Matt.

    I was so nervous and stressed about this and every other video seemed to skip steps and I need details, to see every move. I followed your video and then loaded up Tales of Arise which last week caused my PS4 Pro to sound like an Apollo mission. Now, it's silent.

    I cannot thank you enough for this video. I've seen a few others that are maybe 5-10 minutes long. This was so thoughtful and concise. I am not mechanically inclined was still able to complete this work in >1 hour. That includes the fact that I had a model with several differences. I went from jet engine PS4 pro to silent. It's amazing.
    Side note - It's probably not worth buying that 70$ tool set. Just get the 3 tools you use. I didn't use anything else from it, and just used a mini flat head and tweezers of my own.

    This absolutely saved my butt and made an ENORMOUS difference! Even for a beginner like me, I didn't even have a spare screw leftover hahaha
    For me one main issue was the thermal paste splooshed out the sides and onto the circuit board. Leaving little to none where it needed to be. After scooping up the splooshed paste and putting it where it should be, it made a huge difference.
    Thanks for the great video and help!

    Great video, but be careful when disconnecting the white cord that goes from the power supply to the motherboard. It can rip the connector off of the motherboard altogether. DUUUUUDE, THIS SAVED MY PLAYSTATION! So, my son is a Fortnite FANATIC! It's all he wants to do, all day every day. For whatever reason Fortnite is hard on the PS4 PRO. I have had mine since the launch of the pro console and it's been good to me, never had an issue with it and been using it daily since. Even if just for Netflix etc. Over the years I guess it kind of got louder and louder and there's all these gimmicks on Amazon for different coolers etc. I am a sucker apparently because I bought one. Anyways, Fortnite would make my PlayStation sound like it was about to take flight! Super-fast fan trying desperately to keep it from catching on fire LOL. The cooler didn't slow it down at all, it just ran more power thru it. It got to the point that I had to have my air conditioner on to keep the game running. So needless to say, doing this fixed all of that. Its literally a new PlayStation at this point. I did screw up somewhere tho as I have 2 screws left over. I took it apart again trying to find out where they go but I can't figure it out. Must not be essential to the integrity of the PlayStation overall though as things have been great for a bit now. It literally is so quiet that I had to check on the fan to make sure it was even spinning lol. THANKS A TON BRO!

    Broke my PlayStation!!
    I followed the instructions, when it comes to the power supply (disconnecting the white cable, please be extremely careful, the socket connector is welded to the motherboard so of course you need pull gently). It's not shown in the video exactly how he pulls it it out. But I couldn't do it! Of course I was extremely careful in the whole process and took my time double checking everything in the video in advance before I did each step. My advice don't pull out the connector out of the motherboard. Pull out the connector from the power supply instead!! Guess I need to find someone who can soldering a new connector to the motherboard.

    • @linklooklisten
      @linklooklisten  Год назад

      sorry that happened to you. the power supply wire is not welded to the motherboard, it's a socket and the wire can be unplugged from it. my guess is the piece the wire was plugged in to was pulled off of the board instead of the wire being pulled out of the socket. i hope you can find someone who can fix the board for you,.

    Dude, thank you for this video, I have the same model and mine is laud since I 1st used it, so I highly suspect it's bad application of the thermal paste, like the one on your video, that was awfully misapplied.
    Even though I suspected, as you, someone opened it before you, because that heatsink copper plate had some strange scratches, I still think that's probably the case, misapplied thermal paste.
    Or is it normal to have all that scratch on the copper side of the heatsink? It didn't look like scratches to make more surface, LOL, looked like someone roughly cleaned it, with something pointy actually, like trying to remove dry, kinda glued thermal paste.

    • @linklooklisten
      @linklooklisten  2 года назад +1

      Yea sounds like something abrasive may have been used while cleaning it. Something like that could be bad because it makes the surface ever so slightly uneven, but it will only be a problem if your system continues to be loud. Make sure the screws for the heatsink are tightened evenly and you should be ok.

    My PS4 is this exact model, I got it in December 2016, and it only seems to make the loud fan noise when I play certain games on it. I only noticed the issue about a year ago. I thought I should clean it, but I'm nervous about doing it myself, I dont have the tools, the proper place to do it, or I'm just plain nervous about losing screws, or accidently damaging any wires :(

    If you put some type of oil on the fan dust will not adhere to it like a light coating of WD-40 something like that keeps the fan from being a magnet for dust I would pay a lot of attention to the fan clean it get off the foundation that dust has been collecting on make it smooth and clean as possible.

    They need a filter system for these consoles to make it easier to clean them or they just want them to burn out so you buy another one.

    My PS4 pro (model 7115B) was loud right out of the box. I took it apart and seen the heat sink was filthy with dust and basically suffocating the console. After clearing out the dust it was noticeably better and I could feel the hot air rushing out the back of the console and the jet engine fan was a LITTLE less obnoxious. 6 years later I find out about thermal pads and paste being the main issue and I am not pleased about having to repair something that's basically been broken before I even got it out of the box... but at least now I know why all this is going on and can actually do something about it when I can afford to.

    • @linklooklisten
      @linklooklisten  Год назад +1

      Definitely frustrating for sure. I've been there a few times and kind of see it as an additional part of the experience when getting a console, new or used. It's not for everyone, but I absolutely love opening stuff up, learning about it in terms of what makes it work and how to fix it. Playing games on the console is one hobby, and fixing/repairing is a whole other hobby!

      If you know what the ribbon connects to specifically, you should be able to find a replacement ribbon on ebay or aliexpress.

      As long as the ribbon can be detached from both ends, you can count how many lines it has. When you look for a replacement ribbon, make sure it's the same amount.

    I have a different model of the pro, but this video is amazing. My issue was getting out the power supply. It wouldn’t budge, even with a bunch of pressure, after removing the 4 screws. I pulled hard enough that it started to come apart and seemed like it was going to snap. After that I decided to pull the chute and put it back together and bail. Any advice on what could be going wrong and how I can get the supply out more easily? I do not want to destroy my system trying to get the power supply out. Thanks for the great video!

    • @linklooklisten
      @linklooklisten  Год назад

      Get a good grip on the connector of the power supply cable, make sure you're not grabbing the base socket that the wire plugs in to. Some things needle nose pliers should help. Worst case, try grabbing the wire close to the connector by hand and use a little bit, tiny tiny bit of force to disconnect the wire.

    Very Nice vídeo! Very instructive! So i bought my PS4 pro from July 2020, when do you think should i open, clean and replace the thermal paste? I bought the grizzly kryonaut paste because i thought that this was the cause of the loud, but there wasnt ( i Just placed the console on a Airy place and the noise goes off). So, do you recommend me to open the 1 year console even so? How long should i first open, clean and change the thermal paste? Thank you sorry my bad english

    • @linklooklisten
      @linklooklisten  3 года назад +1

      It really depends on how often it's used and other variables like if it's in an enclosed tv stand and if you have pets. Moving it to an open area like you said you did is a good move, if you have pets there might be a lot of dust and hair in there which will clog up the vents and heat sink. If it's loud at all, I would suggest opening it to at least clear out whatever dust and hair has accumulated. If it's still loud after that, apply fresh thermal paste.

    • @lucasparzanini9658

    Also does cpu have to be completely dry to put the thermal paste cuz when you removed alcohol it looks wet and you put the thermal paste sort of in a wet state

    • @linklooklisten
      @linklooklisten  Год назад +1

      it's not wet, it's dried and there were streaks which is nothing to worry about. takes seconds for alcohol to dry.
