- October 2019. An unforgettable month.
Juggling my time between shows, rehearsals, workshops & lessons, my mind & body was on the verge of breaking down.
But Alhamdulillah, everything went very well. And after all the ordeal, I decided to "reward" myself with an electric oud from Sala Muzik (salamuzik.com)
This one is OUDE EA5. Good playability, super low strings action, but a longer-than-usual neck. The onboard preamp is a Fishman Presys, and the undersaddle piezo was nicely set. I like the headstock with its machine heads (not a traditional pegbox with pegs) & the guitar-like back (unlike the usual oud bowl) although I needed some time to get used to.
It was nicely packed in a prefab styrofoam box (in a shape of an oud!) bubble wrapped in a cardboard box. It also came with soft case, guitar strap, extra strings set & risha/mizrap (plectums).
Definitely a good buy.
amazing music ! are you using the same strings that comes with the instrument ? they send me and extra set of strings KURSCHNER C-109
Thank you for your kind words 🙏🏼
In this video I was using the string that came with the oud. Few months later I changed to D’addario EJ95A strings.
I was going through Amazon videos of instruments and came across this absolute gem. This is absolutely amazing, thank you for bringing an amazing vibe.
Thank you very much! You are so kind.
Wonder what it would sound like if you put a little distortion on that bad boy. Ever hook it to a petal board?
I’ve hooked my oud (not this particular one) to my Boss GT100 before in some shows.

Great sound, congrats.
Thank you my friend!
maasallah. applause!!!
MasyaAllah. Thank you 🙏🏼
I am looking at buying either a SALA MUZIK multioud or the Godin multioud. I can't decide which is better for someone who has never played an instrument before. I have a musician husband and all our friends are musicians, but, no one plays an oud. Do this oud sound good to you both plugged in and not plugged in, for situations where you can't be plugged in, say just jamming with friends around a campfire? What strings and tuning are you in this video? I hope to hear from you! Kind regards, Mina
Hi Mina,
I would describe this oud as having a body similar to that of an acoustic guitar. It would be a good instrument to begin with learning the oud.
For the price, it actually sounds good acoustically unplugged (unlike the Multioud). The stock preamp that comes with it was a Fishman Presys. I changed it to Fishman Presys Blend 301, which has an in-built mic, to capture the natural tone of the oud. You can hear how it sounds here:
ruclips.net/video/Yv207fmE9Z8/видео.html
My strings have not been changed since I bought it. I’m not sure what brand of strings is used here. My tuning here is CGDAFC.
Having said all that, nothing beats the tone of a traditional oud. This Sala oud was bought for the simplicity in amplifying this instrument and the convenience of performing in live shows.
Your music is beautiful brother. If you’d released this demo song, it would have sold like hot cakes 😀 I’m looking at learning to play the oud and your music has convinced me to buy an electric oud. I’m looking around the internet for one and it seems the website you bought your one is a good place to start. Thanks for the music ❤️
Thank you for your kind words! I hope you will find the right oud for yourself 🙏🏼
Hi name music?
Hi, it’s my original music 🙏🏼
@@AzrinAbdullah beautiful music
@@AzrinAbdullah Merci beaucoup
Sounds very good! What style of tuning do you have it in Arabic or Turkish?
Thank you very much! This one is tuned in Arabic 😀
@@AzrinAbdullah Thanks for the info! If you are able to, it would be great to see more videos of you jamming out these fusion Oud styles! It is absolutely beautiful music! You have inspired me to want to learn the Oud again and possibly pick up this model or the Arab silent model Oud on Sala!
Masyaallah... sedap betul.. . Terbaik bang...
Subhanallah.. terima kasih la Firlany. Lama tak jumpa ye..
I love you vid, very nice playing! How are the acoustic tones on it?
Ezra.G Thanks! Acoustically, this oud sounds great, with sweet balance of lows & highs. I also changed my EQ to Fishman Presys Blend, it has a in-built mic so i can balance my undersaddle piezo & the natural sound from the bowl.
Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/Yv207fmE9Z8/видео.html
In this video I used more of the mic than the undersaddle piezo. No audio post editing on this one so that’s the acoustic sound, if you’re looking for.
sehr geil!
ich danke dir sehr!
Nice sound! What plectrum are you using here?
Hello Carmine!
In this video I was using a risha/mizrap (a plectrum for the oud) made by Mustafa Copcuoglu from Turkey. Just search for oud risha (Arabic) or mizrap (Turkish) to get an idea of how it looks like.
Thanks for viewing!
Hello Azrin.
I am a guitar player who has been increasingly interested in playing the oud. Alas, I live in Mexico and it´s really ,really hard to get hold of one, let alone try it before buying it. I´m actually getting a little desperate, and about to quit.
Do you recommend this instrument for a beginner? I took notice that the action is low, which sounds just great for me. Would you say it´s a good learning instrument for a guitarrist?
I don´t play professionally, but I still want to own a good instrument and not get ripped off.
Hello Alejandro!
One of the first challenges for any new oud learners would be to hold the oud in a comfortable and confident position due to the nature if its shape. Since you have experience in guitar playing, this particular model will make it easier to learn the oud for its flat back is similar to the guitar, unlike the traditional oud which has a bowl shaped back. Plus it would be convenient for live gigs applications since it has onboard preamp. So i would recommend this type of oud for beginners. Generally, Sala Muzik instruments are trusted to be of good quality.
But tone-wise, personally I will take an acoustic oud anytime.
hello, beautiful playing, does this oude have both electric and acoustic variations?
Thank you for your kind words. This oud is actually acoustic, with a flat back guitar-like body but equipped with an onboard preamp. It is possible to play this oud mic’d up, without using the preamp. But the tone is not as close to the traditional oud.
i just bought the left-handed version of it. my tourist oud is too hard to keep in tune with friction pegs. i cant wait for it to arrive. i play quartertone guitars exclusively; so i won't be too far behind on playing in tune.
Congratulations! Good for you, my friend!
Do you have any tuning problem with this classical based headstock?
Not at all! The mechanical tuning head actually makes it easy to tune during performances and does not easily go out of tune 🙏🏼
كم سعره ؟ وايش مواصفات العود؟
دفعت حوالي 500 دولار أمريكي لهذا العود. اشتريتها من salamuzik.com.

Congratulations on the execution and the sound. I just bought this oud model, hope it arrives soon. But is the neck action comfortable? Any advice on how to adjust the sound. Thanks and congratulations again.
Congratulations on your purchase! I m very sure you will enjoy it. The neck feels great with low string action. I did change the preamp to the Presys Blend 301 which has an inbuilt mic to blend the undersaddle and the oud body’s natural tones. When i first received it, I tuned it C to c. Now I m using F to f tuning. This oud suits the tuning nicely.
Hi, I am waiting for my electric OUD, the sound of this OUD is great combined with the music you played on it. Can you kindly share the music name or notes. Thanks much appreciated in advance.
SarieArar _ Hello sir! That music was an original I made just for this demo purposes 😬🙏🏼
@@AzrinAbdullah Hi, this was really nice , the music is great, if it is not a bother and much to ask can you share the musical notes for it.
SarieArar _ You want the musical notes for this original song?
@@AzrinAbdullah if you don't mind also the one you used for the demo, if possible.
SarieArar _ Please give me your email address sir.
This is awesome. Nice demo! would you recommend the EA5?
HICAR_ Yes I would but personally I think it would be better if it were to be fitted with a Fishman Presys Blend (with mic).
How nice it is to see an instrument you made in skillful hands...👏😀
Thank you sir. Kamil Gul is a skillful oud maker who makes beautiful sounding instruments 👍🏻
Do you have an album of music like this?
Sorry, I don’t have any. Not at the moment 🙏🏼
Is it hard playing without frets?
Honestly, not really. Just need a little bit of getting used to 🙏🏼
how does this sound not plugged in? I cant decide between this and a more traditional oud
SpaceMan This particular semi electric oud actually sounds good acoustically!
It has good tone and resonance. But still it can’t beat the tone authenticity of a traditional oud.
I bought this for convenience of playing live & to do simple recordings which requires the oud.
Great demo, beautiful playing
Thank you sir!
what is name this oud bran?
the sound of this exellent
There is no specific brand name for this oud. I bought it from salamuzik.com.
Did you record to the mixer or direct to the sound interface? And what is the amplifier you used?
I plugged straight to my audio interface and recorded it in Logic Pro X. No amplifiers.
How did you connect it to the audio interface
How do you connect it to the audio interface
I used a normal guitar jack (1/4' cable) to connect from oud to the interface. Interface to my computer is via USB.
Sounds good!
Thank you!
is that it's normal sound or with effects ? does it have an acoustic sound near to a normal oud ?
Hello Sara, this video shows its normal sound, from the onboard preamp, with only a tiny bit of reverb added to its track in the recording software. However a few weeks later after this video, I changed its preamp to a Fishman Presys Blend 301, which has a mic blend option on it. So it captures the undersaddle sound as well as the natural sound of the oud. I will post another video soon to show you what I mean.
Hi Sara, maybe you want to watch this video. In this video, my oud goes direct into my audio interface without any effects added: ruclips.net/video/Yv207fmE9Z8/видео.html
@@AzrinAbdullah : thanks alot Azrin , in this video it's sound is much more acoustic than the first one , so at buying the Oud it's sound will be more electric , and if i want it to be more acoustic i have to change the preamp ?
@@sara0elsebaiee Yes you are right Sara. It comes with the preamp without a mic. I changed my preamp to a Presys Blend 301 which I have an extra set at that time.
i want an oud so bad! it sounds soooooooooo good!!!!!!!!
I like games and stuff Yeah get one for yourself! You won’t regret it 😃
@@AzrinAbdullah i wish i could, one day i will, i currently play a variety of woodwinds ,acoustic and bass guitar.
