- Hi My name is Beshar, I am an Iraqi born composer, singer, and producer. I play the guitar but fell in love with the Oud back in the late 90s when my friend Omar Bashir played with us at the RCC in Jordan! However I just started playing the oud two years ago and Few days back I bought the Multioud Encore made by Godin!
This instrument is amazing! fantastic Build quality, and it is a joy to play! Tuning is so sweet and easy! Tune it in 30 seconds and start playing! I have a custom made Iraqi style floating bridge Oud which sounds like heaven and I use it in the studio. However the multioud is a perfect choice to be used in a band setup! No feed back, no worries about humidity and tuning issues! You can add a pedal board to make things more exciting for example. I have recorded the following using different setups. Builtin pickup+ microphones, and included a mic only recording! This video is not a detailed preview but If you have any question drop me a line in the comments below!

I play turkish oud and have got to say that I am pleasantly surprised by the unplugged sound of this in your mic only clips. At a pinch I think you could get this to sound quite good for turkish style oud playing. Really nice review and awesome to hear it in a band setting. I just ordered one as I recently relocated to HK and didnt feel happy about transporting my oud so far. This seems like a good compromise for gigging and recording in liue of your usual.

NO REAL ACOUSTIC UD SOUND. Very expensive, very stylish but unfortunately ud sound very raw..mandolin like
Kemal Cansever totally agree with you but I used that to my benefit when I hooked different pedals to get different sounds. However, if hooked to an acoustic amp it’s very convincing in a live situation. I use it along my custom made Iraqi floating bridge that I use the DPA mic for it.

I love that sound. what amp do you use? Any pre amp? Did you get to try the Zoom pedal yet?
J JSA No amp, no preamp. Just directly connected to the Yamaha AW4416 mixer/recorder. I tried the Zoom and it did not add anything the yamaha couldn't do, at least for my needs! So for $200 it is not worth it. You can find a used Yamaha aw4416 recorder/mixer for around $300 or so, and it can do far more than a little pedal
***** Love your attitude. Was at the shop few days and I feel why pay double when the Encore has more personality...
J JSA well to be frank it may not have "more personality"! But you can surely tweak it to sound good! Add reverb (lots of it) and chorus as well... It would sound good.

good job man, really enjoyed the video, this is what i was looking for.
one thing though, i think one of the D strings are slightly out of tune, just saying :)
and one small advise, you might want to turn the treble down a little bit

Thanks! I'm doing a project, changing the built in pick up! It will take a while as I'll be experimenting with different pickups., yes the tuning and even my playing weren't fully I tune :)

I just installed an analogue chorus and delay pedals (From JOYO) added to the chain the SUPERNATURAL Reverb, and it sounds "sick" now it would help a lot to learn some arabic moods (Makaam) and I recommend Hijaz ... The answer cannot be absolute, as it depends on so many factors. Mostly how familiar you are with the sound and culture of the instrument. But in simple terms, it should not be hard. But again it depends ...

Thank you Ivan, this was a simple demo. The instrument is very interesting indeed specially if used with the proper effects! If you want to listen to Oud music I recommend Omar Bashir and of course his legendary father Munir Bashir the oud master! You can as well listen to me :)

+Yunus Şafak I did and it sounds good if you know how to add EQ and use Reverb (lots of reverb). But I assume that the Ambient version sounds better

Thanks dreadveil! Unfortunately not! I wish that Godin would send me one to demo it though. But I have not had the chance to try one. I would say if you can afford the Ambient version, then buy it! I have tried the ZOOM A3 which did not bring anything to the tone of the Oud. I had a better tone using an old Yamaha AW4416. So probably the price difference is worth it! Considering that the (Fishman Onboard Aura Pro) pickup which comes with the MultiOud Ambiance, cost $456.20 on smazon, then the price difference is worth it!! Man I hope I can have a MultiOud Ambiance :)
Again, if I were you, and have the $$ I would surely buy the MultiOud Ambiance!

Hey! This is really good! How can I find the beat you used at the minute 3:46?, that part is fascinating!! Anyhow this is really the best demo out here, I hope Godin send you the ambiance we want to hear it on a similar demo!!

Thank you man, the (beat+Bass+chords) and everything else is a short part of one of my songs that I've produced few years back! As for the beat you can simply achieve it using the only and only "Addictive Drums XLN Audio"
I'd LOVE to try and demo the "ambiance" as I am sure the potentials would be great! Ask Godin to send me one :)

I play Oud and I love to play it in a modern way! But I know nothing about technological music :( am good with technology though!
Ammar ALh You DO NOT NEED any technology to be able to play like the part that you liked! You need a guitarist, a drummer, and a bass player. This is it. So simple and real fun. Focus on creating nice chords and harmony and keep it simple!

Firstly, just want to say that you have a great feel and i love this demo.It's a shame, in a way, that you didn't just D.I the pickup so that one can see what the pickup alone would sound like. This is the cheaper of the Godin Ouds and yet this video gives the best sound of all the videos on any Godin Oud model. Did you try the MultiOud with the Fishman ? I'm just curious if you chose this one from preference. Personally having a microphone setup wouldn't be practical for me, although perhaps a microphonic pickup like a Schertler DYNG attached to the top might be a possibility.....

I will include the dry tone in a future video.
I've ordered the Zoom A3 effect processor and will see how that would impact the sound. The tone in this video doesn't match that in my head/heart, so I will keep trying!
The pickup sounds like a typical "undersaddle" transducer. However proper EQ and reverb would make a huge difference. I did not try the more expensive Multioud Ambience and actually got the Encore version because it costs less!! $850 vs $1600 I am sure the Ambience model sounds better, and I'd love it if Godin would send me one :D and I will demo and promote it! Acoustically the oud is not loud enough compared to my Iraqi floating bridge. A microphone adds timbre tone but That is not practical for me as well. Let's see how it sounds with the Zoom A3.

Beautiful Besher! To me this sounds partly improvised. Is it? It's nicely shot also. Is that natural or studio reverb that comes in and out through the performance? The piece has great emotional depth and a quality sometimes soaring and at others subdued and perhaps with a hint of mourning also and that is the best aspect of this video.

Q1: What strings do you use for the Godin multioud and is it tuned to D G A d g c ?
Q2: The case you are showing is that of a guitar. Godin doesn't make one for the oud. Does it fit well and what is the case model please?

Thanks Bashar, I enjoyed your fusion of Jazz and oud videos.
I became very interested in acquiring this instrument after watching your video. It's a beautiful, practical, well crafted Canadian instrument but too bad it sounds more like Turkish than Arabic Ouds. Nothing can produce sounds like the magical Nahat Oud that Simon Shaheen plays on. It's like eating Swiss chocolate!
With proper effects you can craft your own tone and that's what creativity is! However if you're after a classical deep oud tone, then get one like that! If you're after a floating bridge iraqi style, get that. However Godin oud can be very powerful if properly used! However, don't expect it to produce a any classical tone. Plus the fingerboard design and width will effect your playing! I personally love this instrument in is special way

. يومها الكل كان يسألني عن العود بفضول ويريد تجريبه . رقعة العالم تصغر بشكل مخيف
