I started playing Tar when I was 12 and I really liked it but when I got older I started to develop an interest in Setar and fell in love with it, it has a distinctive sad sound which I fell in love with and started playing it. recently I've been feeling the same way about Oud. It's sadness calms me down and I just love it.
Man I can see your internal happiness with the new beautiful instrument (inside you are jumping like a lilttle kid but for the video you keep it cool jaja). Really glad I found your channel. I am musician and I play many instruments and I am specially interested in world music (weird tunings, scales, etc). I play (apart from the usual western instruments) duduk, charango, ukelele and I am really interested on learning the oud and the saz. So I'll be checking your channel often. 🎶💪
I can play guitar with just enough competency to earn from it, but know essentially no musical theory >.< I've always, always wanted to learn to play an Oud but even just trying out a Banjo once bewildered me without sufficient theory. Not even mentioning how I'd have to learn to play in arabic scales. One day, maybe. Your playing sounds absolutely magical.
Omg nice! It's very pretty and sounds nice and warm. I started learning Oud last year and I'm making (very) slow progress. I'm not very wealthy and Ouds are pretty rare in the US so I managed to get lucky and a guitar shop in Florida got one from Pakistan and was selling it for like $400. It's such a fantastic instrument to play and listen to.
What an amazing sounding instrument, so mournful and wise sounding. I've been contemplating learning the oud - I study Islamic law and I play the fretless bass so it feels meant to be. Any advice on where to look for a good starter oud? The internet is filled with too much info and my Arabic is not good enough.
Thank you! First of all, do you know whether or not you are looking for an Arabic Oud or Turkish Oud? There is a difference in sound and style, the Turkish Ouds are usually smaller with a brighter tone and more sustain, wheras the Arabic Ouds are darker.
@@FilipHolm definitely an Arabic oud. I kind of want to play jazz on it so the darker sound would be more appropriate. Any help is very appreciated! :)
Hi there ! I am new to Oud research and asking to see how you’ve enjoyed your Oud now that you’ve had it for some time ? Anything you’d do differently ? How was it upon unboxing ? Was the nut and bridge string action set and ready ? How does it hold a tune ? Ebony finger board ? Looks amazing !! I really want to get into an oud but don’t want to order something that requires expert attention upon unboxing. I’ve looked in Canada with limited choice …understandably. Please advise if you have any key tips for a new oud buyer. I’ve looked in Istanbul / Jordan … I’m still building knowledge before purchasing. Many thanks 🙏🏼 !!
I still very much enjoy it. It is one of the best instruments I've ever played on, in general. Amazingly, everything was in order right from unboxing, and I haven't had to adjust anything yet (except for a tunig peg that broke, but that was my fault). I can definitely recomend Yildrim's ouds as a great option if you are looking for one.

What a beautiful instrument, and such a nice sound. The craftsmen truly love their art. Have you played any older ouds? Sometimes it seems that the sound changes for the better once the wood has aged. I have noticed this at least for guitar. All the best to you.
I can't recall having ever played on an Oud that was significantly old. But you are definitely right, the wood will evolve over time and usually in a positive way! My Shehata oud (made in 2013) definitely sounds better now than when I first got it.
just wondering, are you a Muslim? or just an arabphile (not sure if that's a word). it's really cool how you can pronounce the foreign names/words so well
that body has the look of a turkish oud, in styling.. is the string length or bridge to nut length 58.5 cm (turkish) or the longer 61-62 cm (arabic) ?? i guess u can have turkish oud w arabid tuning.
I really need to buy a new oud. I'm still using the one I bought from ebay and got delivered with a cracked bowl lol. Fixed it tho, but it's really low quality anyway I need a new one
I bought a beginner's oud. It's quite nice, but has problems. The pegs are so stiff... I have taken to using pliars. I will make a tuning gripper, but I think it needs a luthier and some ebony pegs. This is ludicrous, and I can see why it was sold by whoever owned it without any strings on it. Sounds good, though. The grain of the top is very proper, and it's a good quality thing. Loud, full, and with its own special self-reverb. Yours is a lot nicer. This could become an expensive habit, but it's good for guitar players to go fretless.
Sounds like it could be worth having a luthier look at the Oud! Especially if the sound is good as it is, making some minor adjustments to the pegs and head is worth it if the sound of the instrument is nice to begin with!
@@FilipHolm I very much agree, and I reckon it needs a renovated peg box and ebony pegs, and then some of that red rosin, whatever it is the pros use. The pegs seem to run really smooth on a superb instrument, from what I can see.
Hi Filip, never bored of this type of videos. Yet before shooting such a video have ur instrument tuning stable. Right now ur not giving justice to your beautiful instrument and the untuned sound is unpleasant. Great new oud, still sounds very turkish though... Arabic sound from arab luthier and turkish sound from turkish luthiers...
Let me tell u about a word that we describe old oud , it's rakhim رخيم , we say this oud is 30 years old? Oooh it has a rakhim sound. I would rather buy an old oud cuz the wood is like wine , 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for these excellent videos that I've just discovered. I'm a guitarist and amateur luthier but I love the sound of the Oud and have listened a lot to Anouar Brahem. May I just suggest that you would take your videos into another realm if you avoided the jump cuts. This does not diminish the warmth of your informed presentation and wonderful playing. All the best.
It is refreshing to see a nordic guy so interested in middle eastern music.
yes
Congrats! The Palabiyik oud sounds great. Great to hear that you know Navid from "Oud for Guitarists":)
Navid is awesome!
Nice Oud dude. I’m glad you like it. Looks and sounds great. Nice choice of rosewood bowl and pegs.
Thanks man! Seeing some of your videos definitely helped me discover Yildrim and fall in love with the sound, so thank you for that!

New Oud sounds like a significant upgrade, happy playing!
Wow such an absolutely beautiful Oud :) Thank you for sharing. Best wishes.

Waw Filip! Thanks for sharing those experiences with us!! May I ask you when, where and how did you learn to play the Oud?
I started playing 10 years ago. Basically learned it by myself by listening to the masters

No, I think it's just a stylistic thing. These are the Aquila red series of strings. They have very low tension which I think works well on this Oud.

You can use dissolves or other transitions. Check out jump cuts on RUclips, there are a whole lot of tutos.
HI MODEL? COST?
It's custom made, so not a particular model as such. But the body is Indian Rosewood and the soundboard is Red Cedar. The price was around 3000 euro.
As if the first oud is more obedient.
It is a pity about your American accent.
