    My aunt was a nurse in the 60's and 70's and they used to play with the mercury from broken thermometers. Pushing it around their hands and what not. She's 75 and her only health problems are completely unrelated to mercury. Lol

    I just came across your videos and learned alot. I am in Missouri on 80 acres and want to remove gravel and dirt to prep for a lake a few years down the road. We have small flakes known as glacier gold. I am looking to make some of your items to work the land. We also have indian artifacts around, we will be sifting for those too. I am excited to see what we can find.

    Mercury isn't that dangerous but here in Quebec, you need a permit to work with it. It an exciting project making Hg(NO3)2 and Hg reacting with a wire to get the gold out. So your making an alloy of gold and nitric acid to remove the gold from the Hg. Still very cool.

      My mother gave me a bottle of mercury that belonged to my Grandfather several years ago. She found the mercury in a box of his stuff that had been in her back room for at least 40 years. There was about a cup of mercury and I decided to retort it, I recovered a little under a half ounce of gold. After I cleaned it up, the gold looked just like the other gold Grandpa got from his claim.

    I wish we were allowed to use mercury in Canada for recovery in commercial operations. I've had to get good at using separating tables and spirals to get the blondes and black sand out of the fine gold. It's illegal to even have mercury on its own on a claim in the Yukon.

    Hi Gary, if you use mercury to extract gold from black sand cons will it also amalgam with the other heavy metals that some black sands contain? And will it be mixed into your gold when you retort it? For example my black sands are full of tin, will I end up with a nugget of tin with gold contained in it?

    • @Metal_Master_YT
      @Metal_Master_YT 3 года назад

      you probably would, and if you did, I would first heat your samples so as to oxidize the tin and make it not mix with the gold anymore, then just treat it like a regular sample.

    One thing to think about regarding mercury is that it is a liquid at room temperature and as such, it sublimates just like any other liquid. You can see this with the photo effect where you can see air move around. Mercury vapor, when you make it seen, looks like ordinary water vapor.

    Are you looking for pyrite to make sure your got getting "fooled" i did see a piece of gold that moved too easily with a swish of water as the smaller pieces stayed in place. Can you or do you have a video on what is pyrite vs gold? Again, thank you. Search Facebook for Slate and Wild Roses

    • @Metal_Master_YT
      @Metal_Master_YT 3 года назад

      pyrite is iron sulfide, just try to melt it, if you heat it it will release sulfur gas that will turn into sulfur dioxide. then all you have left is iron, and iron will rust and also can oxidize. but gold does not rust or tarnish, also gold is much yellower and brighter and more of a vivid color than pyrite, pyrite is also very brittle, just hit it with something hard, if its pyrite it will shatter, if its gold it will bend. pyrite is a grayish yellow, while gold is a yellowish orange.
