I just watched a guy in colorado use a magnet jn the river to collect black sand. In an hr he had about 7 lbs, of black sand and it was a powerful magnet the sand was thick on it. I'll tell him to take it home and use a weak magnate to separate the gold. Good info.

Thanks Gary for your videos. After a day of dredging I hand pan my cons to 20 mesh and then classify and run the rest through my blue bowl. I hadn't thought about doing it dry though, thanks for the tips! I save my bigger rocks and run the falcon over them just to make sure nothing is getting away. I am curios to watch the future video with the tumbler and mercury as I haven't messed with mercury at all.
I hade a Falcon years ago, I really enjoyed using it. I have been trying to work on the mercury video, but between working on the house and work, I have been unable to work on it much. I have Sunday earmarked to do some filming. Thanks for the support.
I've been prospecting for decades off and on. That said, I watch as many vids on subject as possible in order to gleam every little extra tidbit useful. I find myself watching yours over and over on the nights I can't sleep. I won't knock others, but your knowledge, your direct-to-the-points style is most excellent. I would, however like to see you use mercury to recover gold on more than one vid. And with different gold amounts and different sizes. I have a wash running right behind myy house and it is FULL of Black sand, I paned it once and I did find a little gold in it.
Thank You for the great video and information. I am brand new at this, Just trying to learn. Am I correct in thinking that the small gold classified down to to 50 would be lighter then the black sand that is classified at larger then 20. Please correct me where I am wrong. Again Thank You.

I like the fact that you don't always find gold and when you do you don't rub it in.
I'm from upstate N.Y. where they have a stupid law that says any gold found is the property of the state of N.Y.
So if ya find gold ya gotta through it back which I don't have a problem with because there isn't any gold in N.Y. I have been all over this state and have hand panned 4 Tons of material to find 1 penny!
I'm moving out of this state because we are the highest Taxed state in our union, They took a big fat dump on our 2nd Amendment rights and now I find out that I can't even take my son out to pan for gold. Our Governor is horrible and dose Nothing to improve this state. every time we turn around there is some new law that prevents anyone from doing things they love, like panning.

Don't feel alone with all the stupid laws, California isn't far behind. There are a couple of outfits that sell, what they call paydirt for panning. I have no idea if you get anything, but I have seen there adds. I had a great time taking the kids out mining. Now all my kids are grown up, but I now have grandkids to take out with me - even better. Good luck and thank you.

I was wondering when looking in a creek if you see iron oxide or bog iron could gold be near by?

I've got a dry rig that shakes out most things lighter than iron, but I have no idea what I do to transition the leftovers to panning, this helps, but I'm always afraid I'm missing a step.

Binge!! Just found your channel,, enjoying it! I know there's gold in the river near where I live, have pan shovel even a white gold detector, wanting to try my hand at it which is why I'm binge watching your videos lol.. the river has boat loads of black sand a few rocks+ small gravel, not allot of big rocks to look in crevice.. my question is where to get sand from, it's not all black there's normal beach sand type sand bar that sparkles like crazy when the waters low and it's exposed., Thanks and I subbed

Whats the story on that magnifier? Is there a name for that style of lens? I ask because when i was a kid my grandpa had one just like that made of brass that would fold it was much smaller of course but ive always wonder what they’re actually for🤷🏻♂️

I think we are out of the woods now. I am trying to figure out how to get them off the dam, and get them to start cleaning up the roads so I can get to gold country.
I have thought of making an inverted soda bottle stratifier, for eliminating the black sands, where the gold in the end drops in the screw cap

Question - Even If you don't see any visible gold in your black sand, is it worth keeping the black sands for processing later on? I've been keeping all my black sands in a dish for now. Thank you!
The only way to find out, is process some of it or you can have it assayed. Thanks - Gary
It seems that there are a few replies regarding separating black sand by means of chemical or heat application. I would say it is certainly possible but the increase in cost of such methods may well out way the derived value of gold attained.

The black sand doesn't rust because it's already in the form of an oxide meaning the oxygen atoms are already bonded (if that makes sense). Magnetite will be attracted by most of the store bought magnets but the hematite black sand will remain. Hematite is only very slightly magnetic. So the only way to remove that stuff is to either use one of the big neodymium magnets or to clean it up with the spiral or the blue bowl (mercury being an option most would tend to avoid). One of the cool things about magnetite is they are like tiny 8 sided crystals. It still amazes me how small those crystals can be.

Any of the rare earth magnets are good. I prefer the Neodymium disc about 1/2" to 3/4" round and about 1/4" to 1/2" thick.

Man I wish I could find what you call real fine gold here in Ga. Those are nuggets where I live. It would take 15 pieces to equal 1 of yours. It is true flour gold but there's plenty of it.

Their are so many products out there! It does not matter what you use, at the end it still comes down to the gold pan and a screen to get the fine gold.

Yes, it just takes longer. I use mercury if I have a large amount to do.

No. I don't like working in very cold water, so I have never given it much thought.

How much do you make if your hobby is water skiing or riding a bike? It's the day out and the excitement of the hunt. For me and I think, most people the gold is a trophy the value doesn't really matter. With that said, after 50 years of selling my gold and putting the money into a retirement account, it is worth it.

Why doesn't black sand rust? It consist of iron, yes? If someone could find a way to do it, you could rinse off the rust....The remaining particles would be light sand, easy to separate))
Seeking TKO Seeking TKO black sand is mostly made of magnetite, which is iron oxide (Fe3O4), so it can't rust.
its actually pretty easy if black sand is just iron( i dont know exactly) but if yes you could dissolve the black sand in an acid, the gold will not react with the acid and remain solid
you can melt the black sand into iron
why do they call you two toes? do you only have two toes on one foot just curious is all.
The whole RUclips idea was started by my son Joe. After he got out of the Marines he built a rock crawler, every now and then I put a picture of it in the intro. The original plan was to make a channel that had 4 wheeling and prospecting. The two toe idea came from the fact that a mountain goat can go anywhere, hence the goat and the name two toes. Joe's wife, is in the Air force and got stationed in Omaha, Neb. There are no mountains in Nebraska, so the plan kinda fell apart. I was having fun making the videos so decided to keep going. I kept the Two Toes name, because I like it and who knows, some day I might get a 4 wheeler!
