Hey DocJo! new subscriber. couple of questions. 1. what I think is golfers elbow - main pain is right on the ball of that joint inside/bottom of elbow. sensitive to the touch. on doing the mobilization I can feel it in the muscles in that area. does it sound like golfers elbow to you? 2. I have ordered the bar. is there something i can use for the twist exercise until i receive it? Tried with a rolled up hand towel with limited success. thanks!
SUBIR NAG I bought a generic brand elbow strap from walgreens and just backed off weightlifting and gripping for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, light rehab type movements for another 2 weeks then 100% recovered
I bet your pain came right back, these are grandmother rehab exercises. There are much better videos for strengthening, this is one of the worst videos in my opinion and I bet she never had the problem herself using those gimmicky rubber pieces
I would like to thank you for your video. Everyone else spent 10 - 15 minutes explaining what the problem was, but you hit it and dived right in in just a few minutes. Thank you. Great suggestions.
I’ve been sore for several days and haven’t even been able to extend my arm, but after the first few stretches it feels so much better! Thank you so much!!
Agreed with others -- best video and most comprehensive exercises. I've been battling this 10 months now, doing all the prescribed exercises but this is by far the best video explanation and demonstration I've seen
This pain hit me right out of the blue! Thank you Dr. Jo for your instructions! Everything was clear and concise and to the point! Looking forward to starting these exercises! Thank you!
I tried the first 2 steps and this is the best my arms have felt in 3 days. Not sure if I have golfer's elbow or some other muscle strain from doing too many curls but this video really helped!
Thank you! I have it real bad in both my elbows. Hope this works tired of hurting all the time! My job is very physical so I can't seem to rest them. Will be doing these stretches for sure!
Just ordered the strap. Thanks for the video. I’ve had this since May and have lost a lot of muscle in my arms trying not to make it worse. Crazy how long it can last.
after months with this condition, feels like I finally found the answer! (so far 1 week with only the stretches and wrist flexion with a light dumbbell). thanks so much!
Thank you for this video! I injured my elbow about about 2.5 weeks ago and it never felt like it was improving. I tried the exercises in this video and the next morning I had a drastic improvement in pain level and regained strength especially from the soft tissue mobilization.
@@AskDoctorJo darn it, it came back with the onset of tennis season. I guess I have to do regular elbow work during my daily stretching and mobile routine.
@@Chess2000 the Tyler twist exercise with the Thera bar involves aggressively loading the eccentric portion of the movement. This is generally not trained, which is why it is more susceptible to injury. The tendons are no longer inflamed, but disorganized, so you need to progressively overload the tendons to make them stronger. I now perform a regular elbow routine to prevent this issue from happening again.

Hi Dr. Jo, I did your exercises on Golfers elbow and it worked for me so thanks for a great video. But I have some discomfort from the muscle above the inner elbow. Do you have any suggestions??
Alhamdulillah the exercises shown in your video are very useful. I only tried these exercises once. It has benefited me greatly. Thank you very much thank you very much.
Thanks for this doc. I play PC games and work behind my PC as well, all in tandem with weight training. Started really getting bad golfers elbow lately, but man has this video really helped me out. Much appreciated for the knowledge!
Thank you so much, I was diagnosed with golfers elbow yesterday, I’m starting your stretches and exercises and it seems to feel better already, hopefully this works I believe mine has been caused by crochet and knitting which I love to do ❣️ Do you think I can get back into my favorite hobby or should I wait till it’s completely healed ?
Dr. Jo, I've really found your videos on tennis and golfer elbow to be easy-to-follow and helpful. Now, from tennis, I've got what I think is golfer's elbow. So, I'm doing your golfer's elbow set of exercises. My question: is there any harm from doing both your sets of tennis and golfer's elbow exercises? (I think there is some overlap on the exercises, but certainly the flexbar exercise is different between your two videos.)
Thank you for the video and the tips! I’ve also found that doing dead hangs from a pull-up bar for 2-3 sets everyday really helps my pain, and also helps stretch and relax the shoulders and the back. My elbow feels very good after a good session of dead hangs, particularly the stiffness which goes away entirely.
I work as a IT sys admin and I have this in both of my arms. The left one isn't really bad but the right on (figures) is a pain in the ass. I've got an armband like this one that I'll be using more often and these stretches should help out a ton. I've basically went a week without using my right arm figuring it'd get better faster. I don't think it did. Very information video and easy to follow.
Thank you for an extremely clear and informative video ! A PT told me my golfers elbow is probably from computer work. My chair and workstation are fairly ergonomic but would you recommend using a foam wrist pad in front of my keyboard, or any other device that would take pressure off the inside of my elbow? Should I wear the elbow band while working? I have one called "bandit." Thanks !
You're welcome! The foam would probably help so your elbows don't drop down to get too much pressure on them. I think wearing the elbow band while working is fine as long as you think it helps. Good luck!
Thanks so much for this awesome video. Can you advise how often we should do this, ie daily, every other day? I think it’s the only thing not mentioned, or it might have been and I missed it!
AskDoctorJo Brilliant thanks. I get sharp pain on my medial epicondyle doing press-ups when my arm is bent in a position. I can also get the pain when I spread out my fingers and bend my elbow. Any ideas on this?

Hi Roxie, just wondering if you cured your golfer's elbow? I've been getting physio treatment for about 6 weeks now. Went back to golf on Sunday and elbow hurts again..any tips for exercises or other ideas you could share?
Thank you so much, I've been struggling with this horrible elbow pain, and searching for videos that could help and this one was by far the most informative, quick questions tho, how much time would you say that this pain could go away and is it possible that it could definitely go away? And is ice helpful too? Thanks again.
You're welcome. It really just depends on how severe your case is. With consistent treatment, it can take anywhere from a few days to 6 weeks. Yes, icing it might help too. Good luck.
Mainly with activities, but I wouldn't wear it all day long. When you are doing therapy exercises, you can take it off. I wouldn't recommend lifting weights while you are recovering, but it's really different for everyone. Good luck.
Very grateful for this well explained information Jo. These are the best exercises & advice i've found & are really making a difference for the first time in years! Can't thank you enough!
Great video, thank you. Not sure if I missed it but how often should you do these treatments and is it ok to do them all in the same session. Thanks again. :-)
I appreciate this video , people that do thumbs down have they ever had this pain before I don't think so because if you do, everything would be thumbs up.
Hi, I have just started with your treatments. How long does it take until it’s recovered. I will not hit the gym at least for a month, I’ll just be doing these rehab exercises.
@AskDoctorJo I've had it on my right arm for six years. With cortisone, I had no more pain. I haven't had any pain for 4 years. Now the pain started again in my right arm, and three months later I developed golfer's elbow in my left arm. What could be the reason? I didn't even do any hard work. However, I had the same problem in my left arm. What do you think may be the reason why it is on both arms? I have no pain in my neck or shoulder.
Hello Doc, Thank you for the video. Will start your suggestions. Have been dealing with golfer's elbow this for over 6 months. Would a TENS or EMS device be helpful in dealing with it? Thank you!
Dude, you are awesome. Its been about 2 years and change since I have golfed and went to the driving range last Saturday and I lost my focus and hit the ground before the ball and that's when the pain started. I had a golf outing the following Monday so I was determined to still go. Monday came and my arm was a little sore still from previous days and after 18 holes my forearm was swollen by the inner elbow. I came across this vid and had been helping tremendosly. Thanks Dr Jo one more question would you suggest doing these everytime before I golf once I fully recover from this strain?
Thank you for the video and explanation. I have started to do the stretches as my plan of rest and hoping my elbow would heal itself has not worked. :) The pain I feel is mainly right at the bump on the inside of elbow. Is this typical? thank you
It seems like I may have this and the stretches and exercises help but I also have a lump that is painful near the elbow. I haven’t come across lumps in my research tho. Also do I have to stop working out?
Hey Doc! i feel i have golfers elbow, but it seems it is sore slightly higher than your video, my elbow bone fells like i have a match to it when touching and when i ice it turns painful,a sharp pain..so mainly it from the knobby elbow bone and an inch up, been doing your excercises and hoping it gets better soon, thanks....
If it's slightly in between the knobby area, that is where your ulnar nerve (or the "funny bone") is. It might be more cubital tunnel syndrome. I have a video for that too if you want to research it and see if that's more what you think you might have.
Such a helpful video, thank you! Do you think I should do these exercises - I had an inflamed ulnar nerve with mild pinky tingling and after a week of NSAIDs and complete rest I don’t get the tingling anymore but all of a sudden I have golfer’s pain in the elbow. Is it possible the nerve inflamed the tendons or something? I’m really worried because I’m an artist and I can’t work now.. do I have to make a full recovery before going back to work? Thank you so so much for your time!
Thanks, and you're welcome! Unfortunately, I don't know those answers since I can't evaluate you. In general, gentle stretches and exercises can be starting right away as long as they don't increase the pain.
I have both lateral and media, in both hands - in varying degrees. I have stick like forearms, that is. It's mostly the forearm that suffers. And sometimes its the lateral and at other times its the medial that flares up. Are the exercises much different in reality? Will these work for both?
Did your doctor or PT rule out it coming from your neck? Any time it's both sides, it's always worth looking further up the chain like the neck and/or shoulders. Some of them are slightly different because they are different muscles being affected, but many of the stretches are the same since you always want to stretch the whole area.
@@AskDoctorJo They initially occurred at different points of time and as expected, the tears never heal completely. I've had discussions with orthopedics and therapists and I surmise it's to do with weak (thin) forearm which got injured somehow. In fact I got my tennis elbow playing golf. And the Golf elbow could have been triggered by keyboard usage.
Dr. Jo when do use the simian brace--when you're doing these rehab exercises or all the time till it feels better or do you even wear it after you return to resistance training, like if I'm doing pullups? Thx Clay

You're welcome. It's called an Armbar. You can find it in the link below the video here: www.askdoctorjo.com/best-golfers-elbow-treatments
Did the stretches and put on an improvised strap .. and wola 👌better already .. will do exercises as well
Could you please tell me how you made that DIY strap?
God bless you Dr Jo
Dr. Jo what is the normal recovery time to expect when doing these treatments?
It's different for everyone depending on how severe it is, how long you've had it, and how your body reacts to treatment.
amazing channel! you are helping a lot of people
Thanks!

They initially occurred at different points of time and as expected, the tears never heal completely. I've had discussions with orthopedics and therapists and I surmise it's to do with weak (thin) forearm which got injured somehow. In fact I got my tennis elbow playing golf. And the Golf elbow could have been triggered by keyboard usage.
Hopefully some consistent stretches and exercises will help.
Should we apply heat pack or cold pack?
Dr. Jo when do use the simian brace--when you're doing these rehab exercises or all the time till it feels better or do you even wear it after you return to resistance training, like if I'm doing pullups?
Thx
Clay
I’m dealing with both tennis elbow and golfers elbow...will doing the exercises for one bother the other? Or should I do all?
Love your videos
Thanks! Most of them overlap anyway, so unless they feel like they are irritating an area, doing both should be fine.
