    WHAT IS INNER ELBOW PAIN?
In the healthcare world, we refer to pain on the inside part of your elbow as “medial epicondylitis” or sometimes “golfer’s elbow”.
There’s a boney prominence on the inside part of your elbow just above the joint line called your “medial epicondyle”. This is the attachment site for all of the muscles that flex your wrist and some of the muscles that flex your fingers (basically all of the “gripping” muscles attach to this area)
When these muscles are overused or overloaded with tasks (manual work, lifting weights/exercises, throwing, etc) this can cause inflammation and pain to occur in those tendons (tendonitis).
It’s important to note that while we refer to this problem as “elbow pain”, it actually has very little to do with the elbow joint itself. It’s a manifestation of weakness and injury in your wrist, forearm, and grip muscles, and therefore that’s where we want to focus treatment in order for it to be effective.
In this video, Dr Jared Beckstrand will demonstrate 4 of the best exercises, stretches, and treatments you can do right at home to help eliminate medial (inner) elbow pain. They’re simple, they’re effective, and you can find them right here…
HOME EXERCISES FOR INNER ELBOW PAIN
    0:00 INTRODUCTION
0:17 WHAT IS INNER ELBOW PAIN?
2:29 WRIST FLEXION/EXTENSION RANGE OF MOTION
    3:10 CROSS FRICTION MASSAGE

    7:27 ECCENTRIC WRIST CURLS (BAND)
8:17 SHOULDER EXERCISES FOR ELBOW PAIN
It’s important to note - shoulder weakness, and especially a lack of shoulder stability, is a major contributing factor to medial epicondylitis elbow pain. The stronger you can keep your forearm AND shoulder, the less-likely you will experience elbow pain.
I’ve linked to some of my favorite shoulder/rotator cuff exercises below to help you further treat this problem.
✅ AT-HOME ROTATOR CUFF STRENGTHENING: • Strengthen Your Rotato...
I hope you find those effective! Be sure to LIKE the video if you found it effective, COMMENT your experience above (I love to hear from you!), and SUBSCRIBE to Tone and Tighten if you haven’t done so already.

Inner elbow pain is no joke - especially with an active, weight-training community. I'm curious - how did you hurt your elbow? Did these exercises help? What else do you need me to cover in future videos? Don't forget - shoulder and rotator cuff stabilization exercises are crucial with this - don't forget these exercises as well: ruclips.net/video/3OtA0cwuUDE/видео.html Hope you feel better soon. 🙏🏼

I got a question. That tendon that you're talking about in the elbow could it cause pain in wests fingers hands and shoulders?
Also, I watched your video on how to sleep when you have an injured shoulder, just in case you don't see my comment there I'll question here too. What if you have pain in both shoulders?
Also also, how do you heal a torn muscle in your arm?

    • @shadowwood549
      @shadowwood549 2 года назад

Also also also, do you do these exercise before or after the tendons are healed? Or doing the exercise helps them heal?

My 14 year old son plays baseball year round at a highly competitive level. He began experiencing inner elbow pain at the beginning of this fall season (September). After a few orthopedic appointments, he was finally sent for an MRI. the report read “tiny tear partial chronic tear of the UCL” “minimal stress reaction in the medial Epicondyle” “ mild prominence and t-2 hypersensitivity of the ulnar nerve - correlates clinically for ulnar neuritis “.
Orthopedic said to sit out fall season and go to PT 2x week - and strengthening the arm and shoulder is the key to fixing the elbow.
Struggling to find a local PT that is a good fit for my son so have been turning to our own online research that led me to your RUclips channel.
Do you do tele-health or video virtual appointments in addition to your channel? Not sure if this is even a thing for PT, just throwing it out there.
The goal is to find someone to work with my some between now and the the spring season to stew and rehabilitate the elbow and arm.
Your approach and style in your videos is fantastic.
My apologies for the lengthy message.

Not very helpful. Exercises exacerbate my pain when done as heavy as you recommend. Strongly suggest starting MUCH LIGHTER, even as light as a few ounces at first, to avoid making damage worse. My elbows have been medially screwed up for 12 years now and dont seem to stay improved very long or very well.
Red light and ultrasound is the most useful along with constant stretches to keep my released carpal tunnels happy as possible.

I've recently started rock climbing and had the pain return, yesterday, during a climbing session, being the worst I've ever felt it. I will start to do these stretches and exercises regularly from today.

Hi Jared, since I know that you read the comments I want you to also to read this one. I have been having this issue about 5+ years. I thought always it was because of the gym and the chin-ups. But since covid hit I did not train in the gym and the problem never went away. I have this on both elbows! So stubborn I cannot believe it. I promised myself after watching this video that I am going to do the exercises your recommend + rotator cuff every day slowly or every other day, no need to overdo it. I give myself six weeks to feel some kind of relief. Other problem is that I will start gym again next week, but I am not in a hurry to go crazy because of my disc herniation that was 2 years ago. I would also point out that I think, but I am not sure that keeping the hand under the head while side sleeping is also causing irritation so now I try not to keep my hand in this position. Thank you for all that you do for us.

Important to mention would be, that the shoulder stability exercises are done only with tube bands! If you write "tube bands rouge" you will se what I mean. Or when with weights, then 6-10kg. After six months, and being really persistent in training I am seeing improvement, but the process is very very slow. I still have lots of months to go. I am also thinking of going swimming 1x a week.

@@Atomicdelta765 thank you, my coach told me it could be shoulder impingement too, the pain in my elbow is the same side of the shoulder, 5 days into bpc the pain went away and has only came back slightly after a week but I’m seeing big improvement, I’ll have a look into shoulder therapy like you did, hopefully it’ll help prevent it reoccurring
Thanks for getting back to me good luck with your injury

Did you experience heavy elbow cracking when you had this, and sometimes when you cracked it, the pain would ease?

I have pain in the inner elbow you pointed at but mine seems to radiate above the elbow to the back of the lower Tricep; so, I don't believe that is Golfers elbow since there is no forearm pain. Hurt it lifting too much weight either on a Triceps pushdown or on a Bicep curl. Going on 8 weeks now. Pain would be if I was trying to open a jar with that arm.

This would have been incredibly useful a year ago for me, but my current problem is on the proximal inside of the elbow, and hand exercises don't affect that area. I've been doing the cross-tendon massage for the past week, but I'm not noticing an improvement.

I had golfer's elbow before and was treated for it but now the pain is on the other side of the bone, so more in the upper arm next to the triceps. Is that still golfer's elbow? The pain is still induced by the same motions that triggered the pain on the other side of the bone, which is now stronger and pain free.

I'd just like to add don't wait before you treat this. Depending on how severe it is, it isn't going to go away necessarily at all, until you do therapy on it. I got mine doing chin ups and it got pretty severe. I just stopped working out altogether, lost track of time, didn't go back to it until a year later and guess what popped right back up, this time with lots of scar tissue built up (as I understand it).
It's now been about 3 years and I still feel it off and on, and I'm still scared to push it on pulldowns (I don't even do chin ups anymore). I may even just feel it scratching my chin or brushing my teeth, then not at all again.
It is by far the most annoying injury I've ever had.
Edit: I just started doing your rotator cuff exercises last week after learning this could be a shoulder issue, and I happen to have shoulder issues as well. Thanks for the videos.

    • @Atomicdelta765

Hi, kind of same like but going 5+ years. Even quit the gym beacause of covid but the damn thing wont go away. I know that i have weak muscles of the rotator cuff so going to try this what Jared told us to do. I give myself 6 weeks to feel something. I also noticed the way I keep my hand while side sleeping could be causing the issue, if its under my head while I am on the side - no go so watch for this also.

I have a bit of a strange query. When I do the first ROM exercise, with my right arm (The arm with more severe symptoms of golf elbow). I can only get my hand up to about 45 degrees. However, when I do it with my left arm (Arm with more mild golf elbow symptoms), I can get my hand up to about 90 degrees from the horizontal, so there's more ROM in my left arm compared to my right arm, with my right arm being more painful. Would you know why this is the case.
