Which 1970s hit song do you feel doesn't get enough airplay? 🤔
Some I remember are: "Just Remember I Love You" by Firefall. This song is a ray of hope saying that things will get better from 1977. It's my go to song whenever I'm having a horrible day. Another one would be the Atlanta Rhythm Section song "So Into You." When people think about ARS, it's usually "Imaginary Lover," but this 1977 song was before that. Ironically, the song reached the same chart position (#7 ) as Imaginary Lover.
@@chrisnemec5644 I find it very interesting that I can't hear any ARS on classic rock radio. Why do you think is the reason?
@@thomasharris3040 Who knows?
George Benson "Breezing." Not sure? Look it up. ;-)
@@fredstuckmann George Benson did some really fantastic work & was always underrated, imo.
70s music has to be the most diverse sounds of any decade ever. It's definitely my favorite era.
These 1970's hit songs don't get enough airplay: Hey Big Brother, Rare Earth...We've Got To Get It On Again, Addrisi Brothers...Baby Blue, Badfinger...SOS, Abba...It Don't Come Easy, Ringo Star...#9 Dream, John Lennon...Levon, Elton John...Poor Boy, Casey Kelly...I Don't Wanna Love You But You Got Me Anyway, Sutherland Brothers and Quiver...Mammy Blue, Stories...Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Partridge Family...Goodbye To Love, Carpenters...Back When my Hair Was Short, Gunhill Road...Everything I Own, Bread...It Never Rains In Southern California, Albert Hammond...Avenging Annie, Andy Pratt...If I Could Reach You, 5th Dimension...Atomic, Blondie...Tattoo, Novo Combo... Everyone's Agreed The everything Will Turn out Fine, Stealers Wheel...Angels On The Balcony, Blondie... Hocus Pocus, Focus...Glory Bound, Grassroots...Hold Your Head Up, Argent...Long Dark Road, Hollies...and a thousand more....
With you 100% on Hold Your Head Up. “And if they shout, don’t let it change a thing that you’re doing.” A great song far too little remembered.
❤Thanks
Nice :)
Your list could be far longer, but you’ve started a great list. A few songs that I really love that no one seems to remember are “Hey Big Brother”, “Baby Blue”, and “Avenging Annie”.
Thanks for your post.
Baby Blue has always been my favorite Badfinger song, ever since I first heard it on the radio in the spring of 1972.@@iandowney4630
Nantucket sleight ride, a 4 1/2 min song turned into an 18 min live masterpiece at the old cobo hall theater in Detroit. Mountain , 1972
We didn't forget them, we just got sick of hearing them over and over and over again. In 1973 alone I heard Rambling Man enough to last a lifetime.
Amen! How many times can one endure Piano Man?
And how about Black Betty lol
@@donhosmer8159 taking care of business. There were a lot of great songs butt rock radio got very boring very quickly
@@charlesandrews2360
And so we finally got FM radio
Same her, I heard Cocaine enough in the early 80's to last several lifetimes.
Carol King , Tapestry is one of my Top 3 albums!!
Half of these continue to get significant airplay and appreciation to this day. Not forgotten at all. #s 4, 5, 6 & 7 may need reminders, though.
you insult people's intelligence suggesting we forgot some of these songs while mixing in others hardly anybody's ever heard of.
Exactly. 😡
Yea, no kidding.
I'm not insulted. There are many ignorant casual listeners out there.
I know every one of those songs and I was born in 1969.
No songs here I've never heard of.
I must be really, really old school, because a lot of these songs are on my playlists that I listen to all the time.
I don't listen to the radio anymore. I make my own playlists. That way, if I want to listen to something, I listen to it.
I have plenty of 1970s playlists, 1980s playlists, 1960s playlists, even 1950s playlists - my parents were born in the early 1940s (they were of the Silent Generation that preceded the Baby Boomers, and I'm Gen X) & they grew up on '50s music, so that was something we listened to when I was a kid and still enjoy, it reminds me of them. I even listen to Big Band and Swing from the 1940s. So my playlists reflect my tastes. I couldn't listen to modern radio, it's too limited in its scope.
That is old school almost like making a mix tape
What about Steeley Dan, Marshall Tucker, Elvin Bishop, the Eagles, and many others?
Excellent point.
They were so good we didn’t forget about them.
Thanks! I added a few of these to my "I lived the 70s" playlist on Spotify.
Beast of Burdon is a fave. I have 'Some Girls' on Vinyl. That cover is a WORK OF ART!
@rubytuesday5412.... I have the Rolling Stones 1978 viny record of "Some Girls" original issue with all of the celebrity faces shown on the inner record sleaves still sealed as you may know the cover design was challenged legally when Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Liza Minnelli (representing her mother Judy Garland), Raquel Welch, and the estate of Marilyn Monroe threatened to sue for the use of their likenesses without permission. Similarly, Valmor did take legal action and were given a monetary award for the use of their design. later pressing of the "Some Girls" record album only show the faces of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts,
Which version of the album cover do you have? Some are very rare and worth $$$.
@@chiarac3833 ~ Just found my album. It's the 'celebrity' one. Woohoo!
@@drewpall2598 ~ I've just gone thru my albums and I've got the 'celebrity' version of Some Girls. It also looks like Jayne Mansfield there, B. Bardot, Liz Taylor (?) along with the girls you mentioned. Also a few guys who I don't recognise. Unfortunately, mine is unsealed but I'm happy as I got about 10 different Stones albums all from a garage sale for about $20 AU, all up. Thanks for the knowledge you gave.
One performer, one message. That's all it takes!
Greatest music
"Burning Love" is not on Elvis' "Fool" album. Not sure where you got that from. And the CCR song is not titled "Up and Around the Bend," it's simply "Up Around the Bend." Sheesh
Great interesting pics
Wuthering Heights and Big Yellow Tax were huge in Australia and are still played on radio here today. Same with the Wings track.
“Schools Out” Alice Cooper, “Cover of the Rollin Stone” Dr Hook.
Dr Hook had some catchy tunes; two that come to mind were "Sharing the Night" and "Sexy Eyes".
Remember · The Greg Kihn Band
You sound just like Sam Kinison.
Some others: Sniff N' The Tears: "Drivers Seat"; 10 CC: "I'm Not In Love"; Grand Funk Railroad: "I'm Your Captain/ Closer To Home"; The Edgar Winter Group: " Free Ride", and "Frankenstein"; Edgar and Johnny Winter: "Tobacco Road"; DEVO: "Whip It"; Blondie: "Atomic"; The B-52's: "Rock Lobster", and "Private Idaho"; The Doobie Brothers: "Takin' it to The Streets"; and so many others.
What about anything by the British band Sweet?
From "Little Willy," to "Ballroom Blitz," to "Love Is Like Oxygen"? They deserve a HUGE shoutout, in my opinion.
@@thomasharris3040 Agreed.
@@thomasharris3040 I bought all Sweets singles. The B sides were often better, less poppy and more rocky.
@@elemar5 You reminded me of something by Sweet: How could I EVER forget "Fox On The Run?"🤫
Wuthering Heights still gets very regular airtime for it not to be forgotten, as does Piano Man.
The Breakers by Glass Footstool and Doofus Doormouse by Linda Stackbacker are three of my favorites!
You don’t play enough of the songs.
I had the Tapestry album Still love it ; wish I had my old LPs
I have Tapestry on CD.
I feel the earth move was the B side of It’s too late !
This list bounces all over in its search for hipness only to end with the track that spelt the demise of the Allman Brothers Band. Ramblin Man. I wonder if the compiler was even around then.
yeah midnight rider is a better tune I reckon
Joe Walsh , Rocky Mountain Way,Turn to Stone.
The first four (13 to 10), not so much. The next nine absolutely not forgotten.
I have Some Girls on a cassette and yeah, it still plays!
Burning Love? Sorry, it's one of my favorites. I would and could not ever forget it.
Sweet Nothing? Never heard of it.
Weathering Heights? Again, never heard of it.
Pink Moon? Never heard of it as well.
I Feel the Earth Move. Meh, didn't really care for it.
Cry Baby. I don't like Janis.
Big Yellow Taxi. Different, but good.
Live and Let Die. One of my favorite Bond movies. Song was good.
Piano Man. Excellent song.
Up and Around the Bend. Great song from a great group.
Heart of Glass. Another great song from another great group.
Ramblin' Man. Good song, not great, but good.
Beast of Burden. Excellent song. I also liked Bette Midler's take on it.
I remember Pink Moon from a commercial many years later. I wouldn't have known what it was, but probably saw it mentioned in Entertainment Weekly or something.
I remember Pat Benatar's version of Wuthering Heights, but didn't hear Kate's version until many years later.
It will always be a tragedy that Nick Drake didn't see how loved his music would become
Burning Love was definitely a last hurrah showing what Elvis could still do.
Never heard of Kate Bush before this year and I listened to music all the time! She was certainly not played on mainstream radio in the 70’s where I lived in California. I would have remembered such a unique voice.
1970's were the era of Glam Rock, my favorite is Metal Guru by T Rex
Jeepster
'Sweet nothing' has been my favourite song for 20 years
Tapestry was the first cassette I bought when I got my first car. If faded memory serves me correct I had 3 or maybe 4 cassettes all worn out from play. I think it was my first cd as well. Beautiful is how I started my mornings for many years. Slap the alarm, press Play.
You didn't mention a lot of songs and people and I understand. Even a 10 seconds snippet of the quality from the late 60s until disco would take hours. Neil Diamond to Heart, Paul SImon to Elton John. Just too many out there. I could just go with songs that played at the roller rink and fill a page. Redbone, Come and Get Your Love. Eagles, Peaceful, Easy Feeling. Loving Spoonful, Do you Believe in Magic because Shaun Cassidy covered it late 70s which got it back out there. Harry Chapin, Cats in the Cradle. Yes there was roller skate dances done to all of those songs. Maybe just where I lived, but we danced.
Carpenters, Jim Croce, Rod Stewart, Three Dog Night. Three Dog Night. Chicago. Chicago. Three Dog Night, Chicago because. Three Dog Night and Chicago. Steely Dan, Moody Blues, Glenn Campbell, one of the top guitarists ever. Kenny Rogers was First Edition and New Christy Minstrels before county. Just Checked in to See What Condition My Condition was in. Afternoon Delight by Starland Vocal Band.
Like I said, far too many to name. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad, Bad Company, Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town. Bill Withers - Lean on Me. Roberta Flack - Killing Me Softly with His Song. Steppenwolf. Iron Butterfly. The Band. Too many and I am forgetting them before I can type the name out. The Doors, Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Cat Stevens - Peace Train.
I haven't forgotten them all as yet. It is pretty crowded up in there so I am sure I have forgotten more than a few. I did mention Three Dog Night and Chicago though.
Thanks for sharing!
When "Live & Let Die" (as a demo) was presented to the Bond movie producers said: "Not bad, who's going to sing it??"
Thank you for opening my eyes. I thought that the 70's were only Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, and the Eagles.
You must listen to SiriusXM too
Jethro Tull Aqulung. One Of my favorites.
I forgot they were so awesome that in some cases (#10 and #12) I don't remember the song at all, or how awesome it supposedly is.
On the other hand, some of these I never forgot.
"Shattered" -- not "Beast of Burden" - was the final track on the Stones' "Some Girls" LP. Really interesting video, though. There were a few songs on it I didn't know about, but now have to check out! 🙂
Oooh Baby (Goin' to Pieces) · Alan White
Burn love? Not he's burning ?
Not the place I want to be!
14? That's a . . . . . Ya know.
People follow those who are.....?
Ya get the pic! BMUS!
I nominate Dirty Work by Steely Dan! I'm shocked you didn't mention either them or Steve Miller or the EAGLES. Geez!
Beast of Burden was my main jam back then….still kinda is
1961 here. I've never heard of Nick Drake. Don't remember Pink Moon.
It was a UK hit. Many lists presented to us these days are based on UK charts or UK radio play.
Big Yellow Taxi is a brilliant song but at the end is the most artificial laugh I've ever heard.
Band on the Run by Wings
ick
Carmelita either Zevon or the Ronstadt remake
With the exception of Pink Moon I'm familiar with all of these.
More Than a Feeling by Boston, from one of the best selling debut albums of all time.
KISS Got To Choose ACDC Sin City 2 lesser known awesome tunes by louder bands
I would put some other rock ahead of many of these. The whole Deep Purple album is filled with classic memorable tunes. Led Zep was still memorable. Harry Nilson...
Whole bunch of songs I never heard of, and still don't like. It wasn't til we got to the Carol King song before I heard one I cared to listen to. Then, I found "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Piano Man" both listenable and familiar. All told about half of these were representative of the best the seventies had to offer in my opinion.
Wrong! Have never forgotten at all, I still play them.
Amen!
It sounds like Sam Kenison is narrating.
Any song from Grand Funk!
There was a lot of awesome music that came out in the 1970s. Rush should have a spot or two on any list of awesome music from the 1970s such as "2112" "Fly By Night" "Closer To The Heart" "Xanadu" "Making Memories" "Working Man" "Lessons" "Passage To Bangkok" "The Trees" & "Finding My Way" are just a few of the shorter tracks & left the longer, deep cuts off my list but there are a few of them that could make the list as well. On the "Some Girls" album I would pick "Shattered" & "Miss You" There are a few other awesome songs from the Stones during the 1970s. On the Sticky Fingers album there is "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" & "Wild Horses". For more obscure 1970s songs that rule I would add some Robin Trower into the mix, "Bridge Of Sighs" is amazing and one of many songs by various artist that made me buy a Fender Strat(American Made) & a Marshall Tube amp along with a "Roto Vibe" I already had the "Wah Wah Pedal due to being a Hendrix fanatic. More Robin Trower "Too Rolling Stoned" "Long Misty Days" & "In This Place" are just a few tracks from his awesome catalog of music. Almost anything Todd Rundgren either solo or with Utopia is excellent during the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s & on. Todd Rundgren "International Feel" from the "Wizard a True Star" album. With Utopia "Trapped" from the album "Opps, Wrong Planet" from the LP "Adventures In Utopia" "Last Of The New Wave Riders" & "You Make Me Crazy" Todd & Utopia have a very large catalog of amazing music. The Savoy Brown song "Tell Mama" and their vast catalog is worth a listen or two.
There are so many more songs I could add but my time is limited lol so I will just mention a few bands/artists that deserve a mention from the 1970s, Jeff Beck, Tom Waits, Frank Zappa, Foghat, ELO, Boston, King Crimson, Tower Of Power, This list could go on for another hour so I am going to end it here. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I am so happy I got to grow up in the 1970s it was an amazing time!!
rush? ick
Wuthering Heights by kate bush? Even my dog put her paws on her ears looking at me with pleading eyes hooman stop whatever that is! Thank God Benetar remade it and it became a great song once I understood the lyrics. I would crawl on naked glass and nails listening to a Yuko Ono lp if that would cure Bushes catterwaililing.
Kate Bush sang high notes but stayed in the high register for entire songs. A bit more of changing up the high to low notes would make her more listenable to me.
these don't get enough airplay, especially on this video.
most of the 6 thru 12 I have not heard before.
Elvis has been washed up since1 970nce
There are some songs you are right like velvet underground and others unknown but the rest were hits I did listen to the radio
my heart cries when you say velvet underground is unknown.
@KarmicSalt sorry it was played on radio in my time
I didn’t forget any of these songs but I certainly didn’t think they were all awesome. And, it is “Up Around the Bend”…no and.
Kate Bush is a genius and Wuthering Heights is BRILLIANT.
Paul McCartney plays live and let die all time at his shows and some of these songs should be forgotten 😄
6:06 It's 'up around the bend'.
Barbados Typicaly Tropical
I stopped listening to radio around 1982 so I have no idea what they're playing on "Classic Rock" radio stations. I imagine you can hear most of these tunes on classic rock radio on a regular basis along with all the other old boring classic rock music from the 70s.
Besides, "I need T-Rex when I have King Gizzard?"
I think you could have picked better audio snippets of the songs.
El Doomo - Steve Ellis
Wuthering Heights --- playful???
I think it is seriously dramatic, along with being an absolute masterpiece.
The first I heard of it was Pat Benatar's excellent rendition, very faithful to Kate's,
but Kate's original will always define it for me.
Burning Love was a rocker.
Please don't go- KC and the Sunshine band
Show me the way?- Peter Frampton
Refugee - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
More than a feeling ~ Boston.
@@rubytuesday5412Yeah....For sure 👍
Awesome ! Say Who’s that thumbnail photo of?
was wondering the same thing - any ideas?
Why does the narrator sound like the late great SAM KINISON?
I think it's Sebastian Bach from Skid Row... just a guess
I can NEVER tire of ‘American Woman’, no matter how many times it’s played! A few hundred different versions, just depending
on how pompous and cocky Burton Cummings was/is at show time 😁🎤🎹🎸🪈🎷🙏🏼🎵🌹🇨🇦🇺🇸
You will tell me about music? I'm a German but I know the CCR Song was called up around the bend and not up and around the bend.
And not a mention of the great classic... Agadoo.
Agadoo was from the 80s
I'm surprised you didn't throw any Eagles or Linda Ronstadt
How about best Albums of the '70s?
Frampton comes Alive
overrated
I'm not sure who the target audience of this video is supposed to be. Most of these still get tons of airplay.
Your choices are great but they are not exactly obscure lost classics?
People that lifed back then ain’t got no memory laps. Come on man know what I’m saying and stuff!!
There are 555 more
only one from after 1975?
Elvis' last hit - before he croaked on the toilet!
Name that tune was in the 70s , i can Name that tune in 3 cords 😂😂😂😂😂
you pick out some nice songs, but I was actually hoping to hear them, not just commentary on them. :)
It's not up AND around the bend it's just up around the bend
We didn’t forget, how do you know what songs I have in my phone ,also some of these songs are not awesome in my opinion this is just your opinion
What would the 70s be without elvis well it would have been a much better place
Without Elvis rock & roll wouldn't have been rock & roll as we know it today!
Elvis certainly wasn't what he had been before by then. But just imagine if someone said it would be a better place without you. Not nice is it?
I grew up in the 60s and 70s and if I never hear an Elvis Presley song again it would be too soon and I'm starting to feel that way about the Beatles
Up Around the Bend, not Up AND Around the Bend.
Your voice sounds like the late Sam Kinison…just sayin
Yeah really... most of what you covered wasn't played on the radio, let known television!
Southbound is so much MORE awesome than Ramblin Man & you pick Beast of Burden out of 70s Stones?????
Maybe you should actually play more than 4 seconds of each song.
Song by Elvis was not one of my favorites
other than Bowie, Sabbath and punk. most music from the 70s sucked . the 60s was the best.i also liked the 80s because it was a continuance of the 60s. the 90s were ok but kind of depressing and boring at times. after that most music was garbage and continued to get worse. good songs today are very hard to find. i also like 50s and 60s rockabilly and country .
Thanks for playing almost nothing of the song, Einstein
Nobody wants copywrite claims, Einstein
