I was born in 1969 and remember every single one of these songs during my 70's childhood. The best time in music, when the Billboard #1's were a mix of everything, pop, rock, folk, soul, R&B, funk, etc... Just everything. A time when it was truly all about the music, not who was singing it or what they looked like. And true talent, no autotune or backing tracks.

I spent most of the decade of the 1970s as a teenager ('73-'79), and even though I hated bubblegum pop and disco at the time I still remember every one of these songs. After about 1986, we never had real musical diversity on the radio again, where you could hear a pop song, a rock song, a country song, a disco song, a novelty song and a New Wave song all on the same station. Try that now - damn near everything sounds alike; no matter what style it is, every song contains elements of all the other styles combined together in a mashup, and it all sounds homogenized, as if all the songs were written, performed and produced by the same people. And in a lot of cases, they probably were.
My bloody word! The oh so extraordinary collection music from both the 70's and 80's is absolutely mind-blowing! What a wonderful eclectic range of styles from one end to other! So much talent,...and so much soul. No doubt, absent in todays musical selections drilled into our minds nowadays. What in Heavens' Name happened? Figure it out before I spell it out for you.
SOOO thankful to have grown up during these years. We had the BEST music, best cars, best friends, freedom, it was the best of times and we didn't even know it.
I was amused to learn 'Tragedy', was number one on March 24th 1979, which was my wedding day. I had a good marriage that lasted for life - though a lot of people thought it would not. 'Too much too little too late' was number one on the day after we met (3rd June 1978) , and 'You're the one that I want, ' when we got engaged!
The 70's were the last years where the music did not have overdubbing and additional electronic instruments to assist (or cover up) bad songs. It was the last decade of the true artists. After that, corporations would slowly take over in the 80's and crank out songs they spent time convincing the public on how good they were.
So many wonderful singers & bands & songs. Neil Diamond AL Green Bread James Taylor & Roberta Flack & Carolle King Diana Ross & Three Dog Night. Great music. AMERICAN Bandstand & Soul Train & Jamboree. 😊 ty.

Good stuff I'll be 51 years old on July 15
