  • Glow” was written for the World of Color Honor Choir as part of the World of Color - Winter Dreams show which premiered at Disney California Adventure® Park, Disneyland® Resort, Anaheim, California in 2013.
    Any problems and I will be more than happy to take this down. Enjoy! :)
    Lyrics:
    Softly falls the winter snow,
    whispers to the sleeping world below:
    “Wintertide awakes,”
    morning breaks and sets the earth aglow.
    In gentle tones of warmest white,
    Proclaim the glory of Auroroa’s light.
    Sparrow wings in a clear clean voice,
    a sweet, silver carol for the season born.
    Radiant wings as the skies rejoice,
    Arise and illuminate the morn.
    Softly falls the winter snow,
    whispers to the sleeping world below:
    “Glow, like the softly falling snow.”

    My choir sang this piece in dedication to a student we lost my freshman year to suicide. She always was such a bright light in everyone's life, and now she can shine bright for all eternity. Rest in Peace, Sydney. Return home and feel no more pain.

      "Return home and feel pain no more." This seems to be honoring her choice to kill herself. This doesn't seem right to me. Suicide, 99% of the time, is a grave mistake. Romanticizing the end result of suicide is going to encourage acceptance of it. I am sure this song doesn't capture the terrible darkness the family had to endure because of her choice.

    I've always wanted to sing an Eric Whitacre piece in choir, and I'm finally doing so in my senior year of high school! And I'm so glad it's this piece because it's so beautiful! Anybody else here singing alto?

    • @kassandrafernando
      @kassandrafernando 7 лет назад +2

      me! but the soprano part is beautiful :( my school is doing 8th-12th graders (my school is a middle/high school and im in 8th haha) since they dont think 6th-7th can handle it. In my opinion the soprano part isnt that high but my teacher made all 8th graders sing alto and let high school students sing soprano ;-;

    • @jamiecarissa2676

      Kassandra F. yeah the soprano part isn't very high and it's so pretty! I would have loved to sing it, but I also like the alto part.

    This song about had me breaking down after the first 15 seconds. Just a simple yet amazingly deep chord progression. It's simply amazing how this does not sound in any way, like multiple tracks brought together for a single piece. Eric has this talent to not only arrange (IMO) some of the most beautiful music of our time, but the ability to quite simply bring out the absolute best in a person to allow them to contribute to something that is bigger than them as an individual. In 100, 200+ years, his music will be studied as is Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Mozart, etc... As far as him selling this on iTunes, if I remember correctly, there are a number of copyright issues due to the fact he would need to acquire permission from all singers (and there's some int'l issues as well).

    • @horizonanadyomene
      @horizonanadyomene Год назад

      oh i 100% believe he's gonna be in the history books. not a chance he won't. they already refer to certain chords as "whitacre chords" for that lush and straining feel -- and there's plenty of people who call his work pretentious, much like the greats of old. it's like a rite of passage almost. i love his work so much though. i've sung a number of his songs in choir back in high school and never once stopped remembering them at least once a month. just pure sonic and human art. a really compassionate man, too. the seal lullaby and when david heard are my favorites.

    Our District Chorale sang this number for our winter concert. Chorale is basically a choir with more advanced repertoire. We're separated from Part 1-Part 3. I'm in 8th grade, so we're not assigned by their actual names. I sang part two for this piece, basically the mezzo sopranos. This was a lovely song to sing for my final winter concert with the middle school. We're singing another Eric Witacre for the spring concert, fortunately. His songs are amazing, for a fact. 💗

    Truly and utterly beautiful. It hits you right in your soul. It transcends to such a deep place and this is one of my most favorite songs ever by Whitacre. Eric, you’ve done it again. First Sleep and now Glow. The serenity and calming nature of the piece perfectly captures the true feeling of Christmas. It makes me feel nostalgic (even though I’m 17) and it does make me feel sad. If I could describe this in two words, they would be “timeless masterpiece”

    This song brings me back to my senior year of high school. December, 2018. I had an amazing solo in that concert singing “Last Christmas” by Wham! right after the 2018 OHS Chamber Singers got done singing this. I was a tenor at the time. I had an amazing girlfriend sitting right in the front row, she was my first serious girlfriend. I was a diver and was having an awesome Winter season. I had a best friend in the choir standing right next to me, singing the lovely words telling a story of the winter snow that falls to the Earth bellow. Everything was perfect. I was 19 at the time. I am now 22. That girl friend I had is now living in Nebraska and far away from me, we broke up a month after Christmas that year. My season ended and I have not dived since. My best friend at the time and I had a fight and we grew apart shortly after this concert and my senior year is far behind me as I graduated later that year, but this song is about change and a season, a season that changes. And so does life, this song reminds of a time that will never return, but a time I treasure so dearly. My senior year of high school, a truly special moment for me. ❤️

    butiful, so grounding. This song connects me to the earth in a way that is so rare for the music of this world. Well done, well done. Simple purity, often lacking in this kind of music. I love this.

    If you like Whitacre, try Ola Gjeilo. Not the same exact style, but Ola does extremely well with tight, complex harmonies. I got to know him a little last year when he came to work with my group on Sunrise Mass. He and his (very) lovely girlfriend are really down to earth and friendly and when he asked us to correct certain things, he couldn't have been nicer. Great guy.
