I absolutely agree with you 100%!!! All of his music is ao moving. You can feel the emotion and see the picture he saw composing this music. Its so beautiful. The "selah" moments in this piece to allow you to ponder on the picture painted through the chords/harmonies are breath taking. Im a huge fan of eric Whitacre and always will be!!! The harmonious genius composer of his time.
Not just chords, but "tensions" also (i.e., harmonic tensions), and how the chords and tensions of his choice are actually played (i.e., "voiced," not to be confused with the use of human voices for the implementation of those "voicings," though clearly, human voices are the best choice because they are a complex string timbre that handles dissonance very, very well). Eric has GREAT MUSICAL TASTE and the know-how to implement it. His choice to write diatonic music (i.e., music that follows "keys") also has something to do with the magic that his music exudes.
honestly, how music like this can exist is beyond me. it leaves me in tears everytime, a spiritual "high" if you will, that brings me into a good mood no matter what.
Never have I heard the emotions of deepest, intense loss ever translated into anything other than screams and cries, until I listened to this song! This song is a miracle of translation and empathy for what cannot be expressed.
I've got goosebumps already!! Can't wait to hear the finished VC#4! Awesome. Love Peter Hollens as well. What a team! Thanks for the preview. Love You Tube! Good luck to all the singers.
Dear Eric, All I can say... I envy the talented singers you have working with you. You have created an incredible choir that, with your music, creates... aaaaah!
+Aaron Norcia the Dubstep wasnt too beautiful too be honest, but I do admit that Im okay with it because it helps give the voices more of a dynamic shape. The crescendo in the dubstep track made the "big hit" sound epic. The music also helped covering up the holes in the music.
Love Eric Whitacre. And really love Peter Hollens. Pure delight and genius! Thanks for the post. Looking forward to the finished piece!! Wish I could sing, but you need people to do all the "likes" on You Tube, so that will be moi!!
Learning the Tenor I part. Think I might be able to record this in the next couple of days. I really want to have it down. This is a really great piece and follow up to the last Virtual Choir.
Soprano 2 here! This is my 1st virtual choir and I am so excited to be a part of it! =D and Peter Hollens is amazing. It is so cool that he is a big part of this project as well ^^
You're telling me! I've only discovered this was going on with four days to go until the deadline, and Bliss is a 'gasper' (like Crucifixus). HELL to learn! Fortunately I'm only going for one part. Not enough time to learn two.
in case anyone sees this and is wondering where they can find more beautiful music (that was me about a year ago) i have some suggestions! aurora // hans zimmer northern lights // ola gjeilo i am not yours // z randall stroope sleep // eric whitacre lux aurumque // eric whitacre alleluia // eric whitacre angus dei // barber these are just some popular ones, feel free to add any others! :)
well it's two years later and i have even MORE suggestions. these are still pretty popular ones, but nonetheless some of my all time favorites! Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence // Bairstow Sunrise Carol // Daniel Elder Abendlied // Josef Rheinberger There Is No Rose // Don MacDonald The Bridge Builder // Don MacDonald Maria Durch ein Dornwald ging // Voces8 Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen // Praetorius

Very cool. I really think the dub-steppy electronic music covered up too much of the choral sound. Don't get me wrong, I love electronic music, but in this piece it felt out of place in my opinion.
I think the only reason it sounded electronic-y is because Peter Hollens had to raise the pitch of his voice on a computer in order to sing the soprano notes. Plus, this is a training track for those who want to sing it in the virtual choir.
Learning the tenor 2 part to submit for the virtual choir. I love this piece so much. It incorporates so much dissonance like all of Eric's other music and that's what makes his music so amazing and unique.
To me it is as if it is a modern Gregorian Chant. Some of you might not agree, but I mean it as a deep compliment when I say, like Crosby, StIll and Nash, and the Beach Boy’s Brian Wilson could lift you out of pop into “God only Knows” and “Good Vibrations” with straight-forward harmony, his secular structure reaches the heavens.
Can we try out for more than one voice part? The alto is just in my range (I'm a Tenor) but I love the Tenor I part, and I'd love to sing a few parts if possible
Being in a choir is an honor! I was in choirs at church and at school (Jr. High & High School); Madrigals in High School and College; I married one of the Madrigals and today I am a choir director at 2 churches! I love good choir music!
chrome didn't manage well the html5 in youtube, the sound is ugly and then I've to use explorer, have you encounter the same issue ? right click on the video and you'll see if it's html5 or flash
It is messy. I do like the autotune though ( I don't mean to be sarcastic, it really is nice.)Also the American accent bothers me. Too many glottals and slides. Needs pitch corrections and accuracy.
The opening alone is enough to stop all the hurt of the day and overwhelm me with peace.
I am turning into a choir junkie. Not vocals but wow I have never listened to anything that has made me feel like this.
The way he used chords is just amazing. He is by far one of the best composers of today.
I absolutely agree with you 100%!!! All of his music is ao moving. You can feel the emotion and see the picture he saw composing this music. Its so beautiful. One of the best composers period.
honestly, how music like this can exist is beyond me. it leaves me in tears everytime, a spiritual "high" if you will, that brings me into a good mood no matter what.
This is beautiful. I could hear this over and over again and not get tired of it.
anyway, who needs electronics to this - my soul gets lots in these wonderful harmonies. I don't need anything more than this :)
Never have I heard the emotions of deepest, intense loss ever translated into anything other than screams and cries, until I listened to this song! This song is a miracle of translation and empathy for what cannot be expressed.
This harmony is so great. Mr. Whitacre this is one of the best songs ever.
This is great for writing.
I've got goosebumps already!! Can't wait to hear the finished VC#4! Awesome. Love Peter Hollens as well. What a team! Thanks for the preview. Love You Tube! Good luck to all the singers.
you can really here the meaning of the words brought to life threw the music in this peice
Dear Eric, All I can say... I envy the talented singers you have working with you. You have created an incredible choir that, with your music, creates... aaaaah!
This version is 10x better in my opinion. The voices not being covered by ugly dub step really makes this piece more meaningful to me.
+Aaron Norcia the Dubstep wasnt too beautiful too be honest, but I do admit that Im okay with it because it helps give the voices more of a dynamic shape. The crescendo in the dubstep track made the "big hit" sound epic. The music also helped covering up the holes in the music.
love their inimitable harmonics!!!
listening to this is in my friends car (who has amazing speakers) is one of the best things that has ever happened to me
wonderful
This is so warm feeling with like a breeze, its so cool
There are so many great overtones of the alto line!!
Love Eric Whitacre. And really love Peter Hollens. Pure delight and genius! Thanks for the post. Looking forward to the finished piece!! Wish I could sing, but you need people to do all the "likes" on You Tube, so that will be moi!!
I'm so excited! I feel like such a nerd, this is already so pretty but now that there is more added it's like a child on Christmas morning
I arranged lux, and now I am arranging this for another clarinet choir. I am so excited to start working on this

I'm so excited to see it! It's going to be amazing!
Truly memorizing.
We are doing a marching band show with a part based off this choir. Sounds great!
I submitted my video even though I was sick and tired. My favorite song now! It is perfection
Learning the Tenor I part. Think I might be able to record this in the next couple of days. I really want to have it down. This is a really great piece and follow up to the last Virtual Choir.
One word: Perfection
This song is actually healing
one of my favorite pieces by Whitacre! love them all tho
Soprano 2 here! This is my 1st virtual choir and I am so excited to be a part of it! =D and Peter Hollens is amazing. It is so cool that he is a big part of this project as well ^^

Awesome. And all I want to do is fly.....
Classic art
Can't wait for VC4 omg!

Yay, this one is loud! I can barely hear the recording on the website and this is perfect to practice the solo on!
Mesmerizing

1:23 - that's the exact same part as in the band version of "Lux Aurumque" simply gorgeous!
XD im so happy to be a part of this!!
Waiting for the band version to come out so we can perform it at UIL
Why would anyone dislike this video?
Why does it say "as sung by Peter Hollens"? Did he also sing the female parts? They sound a bit like his wife Evynne...
I want to do this in my chamber singers so bad! I showed my director this, and I really hope we do it😊😅
I dedicated this to JC, my friend who shot himself.. I can't even listen to this without crying
I dedicate this song to my Godson, Gilbert Grant RIP
Very cool.
I really think the dub-steppy electronic music covered up too much of the choral sound. Don't get me wrong, I love electronic music, but in this piece it felt out of place in my opinion.
You're right, but in some ways it almost feels like they are two different songs, if that makes any sense.
I think the only reason it sounded electronic-y is because Peter Hollens had to raise the pitch of his voice on a computer in order to sing the soprano notes. Plus, this is a training track for those who want to sing it in the virtual choir.
Deck Jacobson I was talking about the actual virtual choir mix with all of the electronic music in the background (or foreground in some parts).
Deck Jacobson
I thought that it was his wife singing the female parts, it sounds like her... but I'm not too sure
go jet band!
super swag mc swag master. Part 2 is beautiful
Oths band 2011 does this song in their show
This is so beautiful ;_;
I submitted my video today!!! I’m a Tenor 1, but we need more of them! *hints at all males*
Learning the tenor 2 part to submit for the virtual choir. I love this piece so much. It incorporates so much dissonance like all of Eric's other music and that's what makes his music so amazing and unique.
To me it is as if it is a modern Gregorian Chant.

I wouldn't even be mad if this was how virtual choir 4 actually sounded like.
It's weird to have this running two beats apart like two separate recordings, beautiful as a mugh though.
Can we try out for more than one voice part? The alto is just in my range (I'm a Tenor) but I love the Tenor I part, and I'd love to sing a few parts if possible
Submitted Alto 2 - Pleased to meet you all :)
When does it need to be submitted
My friends make fun of me because Im in choir but I really dont care... this is so cool i love this so much
Being in a choir is an honor! I was in choirs at church and at school (Jr. High & High School); Madrigals in High School and College; I married one of the Madrigals and today I am a choir director at 2 churches! I love good choir music!
tell that to my lungs haha. also remember the solo and electronic parts haven't been added! :)
Can someone point me in the direction of the sheet music for this arrangement?
Bonjour à tous ! Pourriez vous me dire s.v.p. si on peut trouver ce morceau magnifique ( BLISS ) sur un C D ? ? ? Par avance merci beaucoup
JUST ABOUT 5 HOURS LEFT TO SUBMIT! EricWhitacre's website!
I hear Lux Aurumque all over this. I love it.

This will not be the finished product. There will be mroe added to this and solos! You will see on July 11!
I submitted my video too! Baritone classified as Alto 1!
Where can I find the parts played out to this?
im doing my recording now!!
chrome didn't manage well the html5 in youtube, the sound is ugly and then I've to use explorer, have you encounter the same issue ?

5 HOURS LEFT!

So wait--Peter Hollens recorded the soprano track too?? How he do dat?!
Baritone here, should I just dep in some Tenor anyway???!
The blend is incredible but the vowels are incredibly spread
BET JAND
I submitted my video! Alto1
The last part sort of sounds like the climax of the band version of lux aurumque
Severino Cordero yes!!! it sounds just like lux nova. i was listening to lux nova like 5 min ago and noticed the similarity.
oh no its not simple to sing...no place to breathe!
End of tomorrow Pacific time, I think
just entered my submission soprano 1 and i am a boy soprano
Ericwhitacre dot cawm
Think about it. And ask first its the law
I would assume that is his wife. They recorded A Boy and a Girl as well. RUclips IT! :)
Lovely piece, hard to sing and there's definitely some pitch correction going on.
Or you could just arrange it. No one's stopping you. :)
It is messy. I do like the autotune though ( I don't mean to be sarcastic, it really is nice.)Also the American accent bothers me. Too many glottals and slides. Needs pitch corrections and accuracy.
this is too much for the ears ....sorry its dreadful maybe the choir and arrangement it too harsh ?
This is far too shrill i do not like it , its so scary....
