I'm thinking of trying this with a busted Chromebook! Snagged trying to work out how much it can support without schematics before I try anything.
I figure my unit will support at least a doubling of its current components to the max its model was sold with, but I'd love to try some ridiculous upgrades and make it into a sleeper!
That would be a cool project.
Or put it to sleep permanently 😂 I would also like to try this on a chromebook they run great with linux I just wish it had more storage
@@sick86stang Well, the new 256GB eMMC chip is scheduled arrive on Friday, so I'm doing the upgrade this weekend. I'll update with how it goes!
(Its current 64GB storage is actually dying, so it's no great loss if I turn it into a brick.)

Hi , i need to remove an emmc disk from a laptop and would like to know what tools do you use to remove it ? Thanks for your reply
I used a:
hot air station
Tweezers
Bit of flux
Soldering Iron
Copper braided wire( to remove solder on motherboard)
Might also need a Thin blade chip remover if the eMMC has glue under it.
For what I'm going to get charged to do this I might as well just buy another laptop and call it quits...
In a 1st world country doing this does not make sense. In a poor 3rd world country this is the only option especially if the storage drive is bad.

Is the new emmc already has balls itself? Or required to reball it first? Please answer me i want to buy also
The one that I had already have balls on it.
Where did you buy the emmc? And how did it work for you having increased the storage?
Ordered it online from China. It worked. Was able to format it with out issues. I thought that I need to reprogram the BIOS or modify the motherboard to make it work.

I see a slot for SSD, do you perhaps know what type of SSD is that slot for?

What temperature you using for soldering ?
Around 450 to 480 Celsius. It depends on the thickness of the board. Plus, some chips have adhesives on them. You might need higher temps
I afraid of killing new emmc with such hight temperature… i have cheap hot air station and from what i seen on other clips hight quality stations soldering temperature is around 350/60
Seems soldering from back of motherboard is best in my case

I haven't tried that yet. It might work. But you might also need to modify the BIOS for it to work.
What is the largest emmc storage option?
I saw a 256GB and 512GB on ali express but that was a couple of years ago when I saw it. Mostly the highest you can find is 128GB.

Im not sure if it will work on chromebook. You might need to modify the BIOS so that the laptop will detect the new chip
and the 128gb emmc part number is...?
What's the use, the laptop has a slop for an SSD, just buy that and don't use the emmc storage
For this laptop. There are no way to connect any extra storage drives.
