I'd never imagined that behind the test kitchen was a literal office. Mind Blown.
Fun Fact, not only is the test kitchen a real office, they are located along(with the rest of Conde Nast) in One World Trade Center, AKA the Freedom Tower.
It's a bit creepy tho, considering it used to be world trade center building.
Bon Appétit is a culinary magazine, so there's a lot of writing going on there, as well as cooking. So, naturally, they will have office space in addition to the kitchen.
@@joesavitsky8938 Sortedfood did a NYC pizza episode with Alison Roman (has since left BA to write a cookbook) and the view from that kitchen is simply amazing. Not only is the test kitchen gorgeous and well outfitted (I miss working in restaurants only because having stuff like a deep fryer at the ready spoiled me) but on a clear day, I could just sit and stare out the windows for an hour.

@Mary Hale That image got burned into my brain from it being in the recommendation list on at least 3/4 of youtube pages for me for probably weeks. I finally said I was specifically not interested in that video and it went away. The Algorithm really really thought I should watch it, and I probably wasn't the only one.

Yeah, they’ve particularly increased the wackiness than normal with this episode.
It's kinda as close as it gets (or at least pretty close) while still being non scripted and in a test kitchen

I think that’s why brek said to cook them on a low heat. I think she cranked it up after she did the back fill but I think you want to keep it low because you don’t want it to brown at all.
I'm surprised at how shoddy those griddles were...

@AlmightyStarfire there are always sentences that don't make sense and places where you know they are saying a person's name but it comes up in the feed as something else. Plus if they are making quiet side comments the words don't always change so you know you are missing out.

I made the software for the PancakeBot, and apologies aside, you definitely need to pull the heat down quite a bit. Those cheap griddles heat in a single coil around the edges (and basically none in the middle) so you have to cook at a much lower temp for longer.
I skipped this video first, saw the survival one and then I had to go back and watch this.
I had no idea that this was like a scavenger hunt food show with learning and mystery, that's honestly great.

Just because the social climate of the office is portrayed as friendly doesnt mean you can treat people with disdain off the bat as a joke
@@justinspencer983 The person is a guest in a professional context; you can split hairs and say that in general, of course you can be much ruder to someone (obviously), but the environment she's in makes it very rude. It wasn't just the "who are you?", but also the look she gives him, as well as the awkward atmosphere that had to be broken with an apologetic/embarrassed laugh.
As the world's leading authority on faux pas, I think I should weigh in here. I don't think it was at all meant that way, the wording was just a little off.
But still, RIP Brek.

This is so cute. I'm really liking this, there's a lot of good BA content, and this just made me think of my mom. She does fun little scavenger hunts, and does all this work to make fun games and puzzles for me and the rest of my family, and sometimes her coworkers for special events, and it's just super great. The work that goes into stuff like this, I just thought it was super cute and I love the reactions and the concept. What fun!

Totally agree. This could easily have been a here's how you do pancake art basic tutorial. But they made it fun & included the personality of their chef & having the video production people organizing the "presents" etc made it feel like such a team effort & so cute & fun.
