Claire Teaches You Cake Decoration (Lesson 5) | Baking School | Bon Appétit - Хобби
I have thoroughly loved the whole series, but Claire's laugh as the carrot slice fell is the best part of all.
I started watching BA years ago when they were basically a YT version of their magazine. Now with Claire, Carla, Molly, Brad, Chris, Andy, etc. the channels is a whole lot better.
i haven’t laughed at something more on the internet that much in a long time.😆😆😆
So you're saying it was the icing on the cake
I was wheezing! 😂
yes it is the best part of all. claire completely freaking out in the other way
You have no idea how happy it makes me to hear a professional pastry chef admit that fondant is nasty!!
Jack Fruth we also hate working with it
An average person here agrees! I hate fondant! it doesn't add any flavour in cake, the only good thing about it is for decoration.
It sure is. That edible rice paper or whatever that is they use to put graphics or photos on cakes is nasty too.
I'm a pastry chef and i hateee working with fondant and the flavour is nasty!!!
I like the plastic because you can chew on it after like a bone (im vegan so i dont often have bones)
Gabby (dramatically sarcastic): Oh, noooo. I would neeeeever take a whole slice.
Also Gabby: Byyyyyye! (walks away with a whole slice) 🤪
i love gaby so much
"The FDA said they are no longer safe to eat"
*cromch*
Omg! The cake falling over at the end and Claire’s laughter is my new favorite BA moment. So pure.
I couldn't stop laughing when the thump came 🤣🤣🤣
Lmao she got the giggles
And the THUD it make lmaoooo
It was so good. I laughed right along with her 😂💗
21:32 that laugh❤️
Claire throwing shade on fondant feels like a historic moment in RUclips cake-making, and I'm here for it.
My hatred for fondant has never been more strongly validated
Never liked the stuff. It tastes... Fake and not good for you
im a baker and i literally tell clients i wont cover their cakes in fondant sorry
Sorry, I don't mind Fondant at all. It looks great and you can make it yourself so easily. You can also add other flavors to it when you make it yourself so it will enhance the flavor of your cake
I like how it looks, but man it tastes bad.
12:30 claire: now the most fun part-
me: READING THE INGREDIENTS
2:05 and also claire 💕
😂
Claire cuts birthday cake and begins to slide out a piece -
Chris: Wait, so what are you looking for? Validation?
Claire: Praise.
LOL
I do when I bake!
Claire: “FDA says they’re no longer safe to eat”.
*Proceeds to eat it*

Claire: We're gonna keep it simple today.
1 minute later:
You're gonna need a blowtorch
HAHAHAHA! this comment made me spit my coffee 😂
I really don’t understand who they’re trying to teach lol
Not to ruin the joke but uhhh...
“You don’t need a blowtorch, you can achieve the same thing with hot water. You just need to dry it really well.”
Disciple of Shaun homemade cake y’all (: you can use a blowtorch because it’s easier
Disciple of Shaun yeah let me just toast the meringue around the cake with hot water
"it's not that scary-" *carrot cake slice immediately falls over*
THE TIMING
22:33 HAHA the way they zoom into the first two slices before zooming into the flopped over carrot cake I'm SCREAMING
2:05 "that's a different show, i guess, where i read the ingredients" lmaooo
should NOT have read the comment before watching lol
I was about to comment this hahaha
Hahaha I didn’t even notice that. I love her so much😂❤️
Rina yep because she does not tell us the ingredients for anything in this one. She says kosher salt but does not tell you how much! Then you try to go to their website and they don’t have the recipe!!
@19:00 Claire: Do you want your own slice?"
Gaby: "No, no, I would never!" (translation: Yes, woman. An entire slice.)
*Leaves with Slice* I
Again, I'd happily watch a series with Gaby, her completely in "Spanish," ideally with English subtitles... She could show all the amazingness that is Gaby!!!
Do you even need to ask?
That was after she tasted it, her face expression while tasting says everything you need to know.
i noticed that too
I did not even notice that. LOL! Oh Gaby haha
"Just because you can eat it, doesn't mean you should"....words to live by folks
"What are you looking for?"
"Praise."
Same Claire, same
‘The toppings should indicate what’s inside the cake’
Me: (sees candied carrot strips) bacon....cake...
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Gurl, same 😂❤️🥓
i made peanut butter bacon cupcakes & boiiiiii yes
Caroline A yea..thought so. The decoration is less appealing, IMHO.
Caroline A STFU U POS
To bad if it was I couldn't gave it
Whatever they're paying Claire at BA, they should double it.
she went freelance so im sure they did start paying her more
I had to wait until the likes for this comment passed 333 because I'm not the one

I imagine the 145 thumbs down came from professional bakers who got their fondant feelings hurt.
🤣
but the real question is… who 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 likes fondant
@@emilyeliza6930 In a glass covered counter in a retail store, if it looks smoother and more professional I guess it would be more likely to sell. I can't count the number of times I've bought a slice of cake at a patisserie that looks delicious only to throw it in the trash after one bite. So bakers and patisserie owners like fondant.
@@emilyeliza6930 I personally really like fondant on cakes, but I just like sugary stuff hahah

The best payoff for watching this whole series with really no intention of ever making one of these cakes was Claire’s closing giggle fit.
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week, Claire! You’re my favorite teacher of all things delicious. Thank you for making the world more yummy & our hearts more happy.
This is such a kind and sweet comment! Claire is such a beautiful, likeable and talented person! ❤️
Gotta give props to the cinematography here, the shots with the golden glow of the sun are *chef's kiss*
I KNOW!!! I thought I was the only one who noticed!
21:55 the best kind of funny is when you think you're done laughing, look again, and it's still funny.
22:00 "It's not that funny, I'm just delirious."
What, that wasn't funny?
Why am I laughing like crazy, then.
Love you, Claire, you have this beautiful contagious giggle. Wonderful.
that carrot cake action during golden hour...omg food porn at its ABSOLUTE PEAK. I can watch claire tile a bathroom wall tbh. and the cake falling was sooo funny, I love how she and BA keeps everything SO REAL. kudos to her.
20:39 Chris: "You wouldn't want necessarily five layers of the cream cheese frosting..."
Claire: 😒 "..why not?"
LOL, Claire never change.
And ended up with a cake that too high for a slice XD
Omg yes!!!!
i love cream cheese frosting in carrot cake so i can relate ahahhaha
"we're going for something homemade. *because i said so.* "
I am a baker, and I've made layer cakes before, but I still learned stuff from this, so it just goes to show that you can always learn more and different/better ways to do stuff. Thanks, Claire.
I remember when I first started watching Claire. She’s so captivating. I have ZERO intention of baking a cake but here I am watching anything with Claire on.
Claire: *laughs at the fallen cake slice until she's crying*

Perfect is the enemy of good.
I could've used that advice 10 years ago.
Also BA's best moment this year was Claire's laughter at the carrot cake. You can't put that in a script.
Claire: Do you want your one slice
Gaby: nonono
*one bite later*
Gaby: (walks while holding her own slice) Thank you!!

Cake slices that go _thud_ when they fall over are my kind of cake slices xD
Claire two days in a row? Gimme that! 😍😀

Claire: "One of my favorite things to decorate with is sprinkles."
What, you don't eat spoonfulls of sprinkles? HERESY
sprinkles taste good tho
Sprinkles are good tho
They add texture which enhances flavor
Sprinkles are awesome, though??
@14:50! I'm sorry, I just have to say it! That sunlight, while you were taking the carrot ribbons out of the oven, looked GREAT on you! Simply beautiful!
Loved this series; Claire is always a hoot. Not going to lie, my eyes stayed on the carrot cake slice while Claire continued to talk, until it tipped over. I laughed harder than Claire.

17:38 Let me be very clear, this is not gourmet makes, I'm not really asking for your input about how good it is.
Yet she specifically turns to Chris and Andy when there are a bunch of people in the back waiting for cake.
And Chris did tell her how good they were and why.
@@recoil53 she said she's looking for praise and validation.
@@magick333 Sure, but who is she most likely to get it from, staffers in the back or the guy with the Gold Standard taste buds?
So relatable lol
I have to confess that I’ve never really loved cake, like, AT ALL, but over the last couple weeks Claire has successfully made me crave cake like I’ve rarely craved anything before.
21:31 genuine Claire laugh, I love it
I watched this series start to finish and am utterly amazed at the wealth of information you provided. I especially appreciate the "what would happen if" portion of the lessons. You have provided invaluable information and instilled confidence where it didn't exist before. Recently, I have been obsessed with cake decorating videos of these beautiful masterpieces yet discouraged because I do not have a creative bone in my body. Piping, fondant, edible glitter, luster dust, fondant, cake painting - the list seems endless. One of the most appreciated moments (and there were many) was the advice that hinemsde cakes should be polished yet look homemadecand that the decorations should compliment and indicate the flavor of the cake. Dragees and glitter have made me crazy for the last time and that they don't even taste good - I never considered that! Thank you Claire with my while heart - thank you.

Really LOVED the wrap-up! Great job
Thank you Claire!!! Loved the cake series from start to finish!
Yes, fondant is foul. Buttercream all the way.
Marshmallow fondant is rather nice. The key to any fondant is to make it yourself. Premades always taste horrible, always!
Cream cheese icing!!
I like my fondant as well. But I make it from sugar, not marshmallows. Less sticky.
Claire always sneaks glances into the camera during conversations with others, as if we're physically part of the conversation or as if we're her bae.

Thank you so much for all the videos. I enjoyed watching all 5.
Well done, Claire! The entire series was excellent. Even the carrot cake was proud of your hard work and it decided to take a bow in honor of you. A standing ovation all around! Bravo! Bravo!
