Airfix Gloster Gladiator Mk.I, 1/72, Shuttleworth

- Just finished my new video of assembling an airfix kit of the beautiful Gloster Gladiator - tnx Pete ;-). Last time I built an airfix model was in the late 70s. This new kit is different than I remembered: the molds were very precisely, the kind of plastic makes the assembling easy and comfortable. Since I wanted to create a version flying at the Shuttleworth I used different alclad II products for the nice alu look. The deep grooves of the model I prepared with alclad black didn't need a washing after applying alclad alu over the dark undercoat... Hope you like it.

Boy Tom, somehow you make the simplest of BUILDS seem COMPLICATED.LOL,
Another beautiful build done with that taskful stop motion photography (PHENOMENAL)
What a beautiful story ! 😊
I really love your animations, the poetry that emerges from them.
I think this could be a perfect illustration of the mind of a kid, standing in front of the shop window, dreaming of building a plane… and having it finished. Keep on Tom ! :D
Thank you very much - and the idea with the kid in front of a shop window is something worth thinking about ;-) ....
TOMs Modelling in Motion .....not from January unless you have $42,000 to spare 😧
How you dont get more subscribers beats me, everything about your craftsmanship is second to none, thanks for sharing.
I don't know what's better the actual model or the animation, bravo to both.
Thanks
I bought and made one of these sixty years ago, when Airfix was selling their small kits (1/72nd scale fighters) in plastic bags. This one is well modded, painted and rigged though. There was not much option when using Airfix glue, though I did consider making rigging wire out of glue strings! As long as I could eventually stick a penny banger inside it and launch it down a cord stretched from my bedroom window to a tree in the garden and enjoy the resulting explosion ...
I dont have any idea how you make these sort of videos but they are so awesome. I do airfix tutorials but nothing compared to this. Just so detailed and amazingly built
+Joshi Blob thank you ;-) It's a matter of doing pictures on particulary steps and bringing them together in a composing program with 25 frames per second. The music I took is a sort of guideline for my timing.
Wow OK I'll try it. I'll tell you when I have published the video. Your such as inspiration to me
I love how you painted the small pilot figure - you brought the poor old airfix mold to life!
+suedfrucht44 Thank you - but I think it's made by brand new molds. The kit itself is very well designed and impessive precisely.
+Tom Grigat Oh, I see - my bad. Stunning job still!
Just discovered your channel and think it's amazing, I love that you paint the interiors even though they will never be seen.
I'm glad you found my channel - regarding the non seen paintings: it's the problem we're all confronted with as a thoroughful modeller 😂
oh god, not only the skill in building the kit but also the skill in making the video, this is awesome
+Andrea Roll Thank you ;-)
Poetic build totally beautiful. I built one of these when a teenager but this is mastery
Thanks for your kind words 😊
Nice Video. Thanks! I like The kit as well.
Another terrific kit build video! Every time I watch one, I want to go buy the model!!
I love it Tom,that you build these lesser known, uncommon models..😊
There's so many videos of the more popular kits, but you show me these unique, overlooked gems!!👍👍👏
I'm pleased to hear 😊
Very nice animations!
I also remember the slightly different molds in the 70s.
The pilot was sitting on two pegs and the window was in a single piece that, if you put it in its place, left almost nothing visible.
at that time the only enamels you had available were the Humbrols or at least the Revell.
at that time, my father made the Gloster and I made the AVRO504K and two other models in an envelope, as the Airfix sold them then, on a Christmas afternoon .... but I was only 10 years old
A fantastic way to show the construction of this great plane takes place! You should be proud of your work there mate!Top job👍🏻
+Ray Davis thank you ;-)
Poetry in motio… er, modelling!
Great stop motion, great modelling.
Amazing as usual.
Very nice, like that you do the small planes (1/72) as well
Hi. This is beautiful. I remember making the Gloster gladiator in 1/72 back in the 80's but I don't remember if it was an airfix or a matchbox kit. I think I have done a Swedish version..
Esses videos são lindos. Não canso de ve-los.
thanks so much for sharing your effort. awesome model, awesome cinematography. inspiring.
Another amazing construction/production!
Thanks a lot 😊
Your videos are therapeutic and brilliant! 👏🏻👏🏻
+Lee Grace nice to hear ;-)
Your video is as impressive a work of art as your model is. Lovely, subscribed and hoping to see more!
Thanks for your kind words. You might take a look at my other animations too 😊...
I love how they fly away, that's fun!
+moo kins ;-) try to whenever it's possible ;-)
beautiful. always a pleasure to watch one of your videos.
what a lovely plane . i'm beginning the assembly of the eduard 1/48 kit "limited edition" of this bird next weekend . my first biplane since.........35 years yet ! damn it........ 8 versions availables but thanks to your video, i will choose probably this K7985.
Yes, you're right, the shuttleworth version looks great and I am happy tried that version. I wish you a lot of fun with your 1/48 version. If it may helps I made some little tutorials regarding rigging of 1/32 - suitable for 1/48 as well. Unfortunately my current 1/48 rigging project is still in work though. Thanks Tom. i've already watched one of those. your dexterity with rigging leave me definitely speachless for sure. will try to do something great . :-)
Thanks for your kind words and I wish you a "happy modelling" and a lot of fun with your model ;-)

Amazing work!
YOUR MODEL WAS GREAT, BUT I THINK I WAS MORE IMPRESSED BY YOUR SKILL IN MAKING THE VIDEO.
I know this plane, I live just a few miles from the Shuttleworth Museum, beautiful plane and model.
Beautiful plane...
Fantastic!!! 🤗👏👏👏👏🙂
Brilliant video, very clever
sorry for say's in my idiom,¡¡¡¡ Hermoso se paso, bello video!1!
Amazing build and video!
+Roxy Katt thank you.
That is really beautiful and original, sir. I wish you had more views :)
you have built a wonderfull plane! thanks for vid!!!
+Frank Goldstein Thank you ;-)
Very nice!
Thanks
Really beautiful, especially the subtle motion blur in places. How long does it take you to make one of these? I presume at least a month?
+Quick Kits Thank you for your kind words - and yes, you're right: building, photographing and cutting lasts appr. a month for a project like this one. Bigger scale work take even longer ;-)
Love it
I'm pleased to hear
Tom you are great!!!
+Yiannis Chagi Thank you... ;-)
Awesome!!!
wow
Hi Mr Grigat. You are a splendid modeller as well as a filmmaker. Would you consider building a Junkers a50?
+burskyozbekov thanks for your kind words 😊 the A50 is a beautiful aircraft - don't know where to get a good model though.
Saw your videos and subscribed to you.
this videos are very relaxing to me :)
I'm happy to hear 😊
Wow! good!
Love the video! Subscribed! 👍
I'm really pleased 😊
you deserve far more subscribers
as time goes by ;-) thank you...
+Tom Grigat will you do any ww2 aircraft? I've noticed yours are more ww1 era, are you just better at those or something?
of course I'll do ;-) >>> currently I am working on the Fairey Fulmar form Special Hobby in 1:48. Flew in 1942, stationed on a carrier near ceylon... But I like the WWI planes very much because of their clear ancient type of technic. A lot of nice details and wires that create graphical structures ;-)
+Tom Grigat nice. I look forward to it!
good vid really cool
I bought the same model because of this video!!!
(I hope I can achieve the same results)
Kind Regards
+FILIBERTO PLANICIO oh, it makes me proud my little video causes your kit buying 😊 I wish you happy modelling 😎👍 it's a really beautiful little gem...
Yeah! it is very tiny, but beautiful
Please, tell me what you use for masking canopy and engine before priming on black base? On 1:29. Is it a bluetack or something else? Thank you for your videos! They are really motivated!
+Val B thanks for your kind words 😊 - I used some sort of blue tack. Here in Germany you can get it from "Uhu" or "Patex" - normally used for sticking some papers on the wall... I don't know how it's named in different countries, sorry...
+Val B but for the canopies I use Tamiya masking tape normally...
1/72 WOW :D
Beautiful model! And Great video! How did you do working engine in this video;-)
+Wiktor Dawid Hi Wiktor, thanks for your words... Since I took a couple of single pictures for the movie itself, it was a matter of long time exposure and a little hairdryer who drove the prop by air ;-) thats why I replaced the original plastic axis with one made of steel...
Tom Grigat Thanks for informations;-) Good work!
What paint did you use for the propellor and the bronze thing behind it?
It was exhaust manifold from alclad II
Thank you!
You're welcome
excelent video very nice :)
Do you do stop motion as your day job?
h3h3eot no, it's only a hobby and some kind of testing ideas and training animation skills. Just for fun 😊
👏👏👏‼️®™️
What material do you use for rigging?
It's "rig that thing" from uschivdr.com. A rubber thread available in three different sizes. Once bought it will last for a lifetime😄
but awsome
