  • 10' surf 58º water temps for Palos Verdes Indicator
Back in the day... there were no houses on the hilltops. The trail down the cliffs was steep and rocky. Very few people out unless it was big, then the whole world showed up. Was a great place to learn to surf big waves.

This is my old break from 35 years ago. Upper point is mushy.
Only surf middles if you want a big barrel. It’s here ahead of this joker 1:55.
Look out for rocks thrown from bad actors.
Even though I went to school with the locals their big brothers would f with me all the time.
Good times ditching school to have middles all to myself. 😛

I just don't get why you need to bring more attention to these spots when people don't want you to.

Because there's 20 different spots that are better waves within an hour drive and are a lot easier access to get to. And the paddle out at this spot takes forever. It's exhausting for a wave that doesn't barrel and closes out on max sets. And did that look like a big crowd? Let filmers film what they want, where they want...

That’s why we are in the process of putting together and scheduling a Big Wave contest next winter at Lunada Bay. Surfline will be announcing the specific details in late summer or early fall. Stay tuned for the big news!

Indicator was the name of a ship that sank on the reef at that spot in the 1960's hence the name. in the 70's the rotting rusty hull was still visible from redondo beach if you looked out towards rocky point.

The Dominator did not crash here!
      This is Indicators point.
That boat went a ground north of Luanda point and is still there. Where it landed!
      At Dominators!

@@wakeupthebear The Dominator! thanks. now I remember. I remember the wreck was at rocky point and I think the surf break (Indicator) is in the cove between rocky point and flat rock point, correct me if i'm wrong. I haven't walked along that beach in 40 yrs. I'm in nor. cal now, grew up in Manhattan bch. when I was 18 y.o. my friends and I used to drive our trucks down to rat's beach (malaga cove) and make a camp fire and drink beer , did it may times. in the 70's the road just had a chain blocking the access and allot of the time there was no lock, so we would drive down the narrow road to the cove, we never got busted!

The "Indicator" of the sets that are going to break in P. V. Cove. Hence the name. There are other spots around the world that have Indicators. But there is only one Indicators. The spot has a long history. It was named long ago when the cove was one of the main spots for the handful of surfers in So Cal because of its resemblance to the "slow rollers" of Waikiki beach.
