  • A collaborative tri-fin project by Matt Biolos and artistic, innovative South African hand shaper, Donald Brink, now based out of San Clemente. Motivation for the project was Stab’s Electric Acid Surfboard test where the original asym shape was given a 5'3” size restriction and intended for use in the wide variety of waves on hand in the Maldives. The boys, knowing Mick’s power, skills and refined board knowledge, created a craft that would hit his volume sweet spot while packing in maximum motor, and would rail through proper arcs, fit into tight pockets and utilize both   flat faces and power sections... they won! For our symmetric version they went up to 5'4” as the base size and added a 5’6”, 5’8”, 5’10” and 6’ to open up the doors to everyday surfers like us who might want a bit more volume and paddle power but still want that mix of spontaneous freedom and power on rail that the board was created to manifest. Designed to be ridden finned up as thruster and effective much shorter than your standard shortboard (even your fish) choose a volume you can be comfortable with and push yourself to fit into new parts of the wave like Mick did.
Real world experience cheat code: It absolutely rips “fish sized” in small surf.
As Donald and our squad have experimented with surfing larger sizes/volumes of the Micks Tape in small to medium sized surf it has proven to be a magically fast loose performance groveler ripping as a thruster or in tri-fin variations in low to medium energy waves.
For large waves of consequence keep it true to the original design intent and ride it as short as you can paddle...
“When in doubt thruster out” -- Donald Brink

been surfing regularly less than a year now, working hard to get off my 7' foamy in white water. i bought a 5'7" LibTech Hydra, maybe a little before i'm ready, but, i stood up on it the 1st time i tried it. the center meat of the board feels like a larger board and i never feel like i'm going to ding it.
can't wait until i can paddle in and surf my "Mayhem" more proficiently. thnx for the edit guys

What I don’t understand is how you can use a fin box that works for FCS2 and Futures at the same time? How is that possible when one company accounts for fin cant in the box and another accounts for fin cant in the fin? Sounds like an irreconcilable design problem to me. You either will surf with too little or too much fin cant ruining the fin’s design or you’ll sacrifice the cant altogether at one extreme or the other. The former assumes the patented boxes come with a cant that sorta splits the difference between the two brands leaving cant off either direction, and the latter assumes that the patent has one company or the other, in mind from the get go, meaning they are basically totally incompatible with one or another company altogether leaving you riding an extreme form of cant that the fin was not designed for. Is there any other possibilities here at play that I’m not presupposing?? I don’t see any. Can you help the consumers here please and let us all know where the rub is here with regard to the impossibility of designing a box that suits both of the presently used fin systems? Thanks. Best.

They don't, these boards are either fcs2 or futures compatible. The futures compatible boxes have no cant.

@@onshore1ft so then the FCS fins are the ones that will have cant issues in these boards then. Thanks.

@@mikeuptegrove no cant issues, these are only available with FCS fin boxes. We do not have Futures boxes available with this model. The Rad Ripper, Quiver Killer, And PJHP offer the choice of either Futures OR FCS. 2 totally different fin systems with different screws.

@@LibTech so the fin boxes are specific? Some shop in London, England was telling people online that the boxes you guys use are not specific and work with both fin types, which is doesn’t explain the cant issue. So these honeycomb techs are fin specific when you buy them and do not accommodate both like some are saying online? Is that correct? I’m so confused now. I e refrained from buying this tech because of this issue. I have FCS and presently am not interested in reinvesting in a different fin company.

@@mikeuptegrove This video explains our Futures fin boxes, you'll see Futures have 2 screws per fin where as FCS have 4 vimeo.com/350218636 But remember this board does not come with Futures fin box option. Only FCS

Totally trippin me out with this one. Any input on riding a Quiver Killer with 2+1 fin setup? Not a thruster guy, and fins aren't cheap. Could walk to Catalyst if you got a set for me to try hahaha, yeah but no for real

No dings ‘guaranteed’ hey. I have some lib tech dings. So if they’re ‘guaranteed’ then how are these being fixed for me?
Or perhaps shouldn’t be saying that in a marketing video?

Ugly graphics on a cool looking board. All the color graphics make it look like a plastic toy made by Hasbro for a Barbie Dream House.

Im old, fat and out of shape. I can surf....Why still don't you make some larger sizes? I get it these designers are sharp....but I only get to surf a few days a year and I like to shortboard....I love your products.....been a loyal consumer for decades....I just think this board is not for me but could be if it had different proportions.
