    Video game backlogs can feel overwhelming, but I love having a large collection of older games that I still need to play through. My favorite thing to do is make a list of every game I still want to finish, then order them based on ones I want to play the most and how far in I already am. Hopefully you find the time to finish these games, most of them are excellent experiences that I'm sure you'll enjoy!

    • @NeanderMeander

      That’s a great way to approach a backlog! I think I might just do that! I plan on making a follow up video with an update on how much I enjoyed them. I’m sure I’ll like them once I give them a serious play through.

    • @worldsboss

      That’s such an organised way to do it! I just look at my shelf and 3DS home screen and decide on a whim which new game I feel like trying lol

    Just play what you're in the mood to play. I go between different "seasons" for a the lack of a better word, in which I feel like playing a certain genre. I played tons of retro FPS games earlier in the year. Then I felt like playing Metroidvanias. Now I'm into JRPGs. That's when I finally played Xenoblade Chronicles, which I bought at release, but I haven't played it until recently, and I loved it.
    Don't force yourself and just play what you feel like. You might be surprised in the future when you revisit some of these games again and actually get into it.

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  2 года назад

      I like the way you worded this. "Seasons" is a great descriptor! You're right, if you're not in the mood for a certain game or game type, you're probably not going to enjoy it.

    I LOVE Zelda 1!! It’s extremely underrated and if I wasn’t so tired right now, I’d give a little comment essay describing all of the amazing things this game did, like how well designed it was for the time and how open it was!

      I know it’s a good game, I just can’t seem to get into it myself. I’ve watched people play it and I really like that! It’s amazing what Nintendo was able to do with the first Zelda in 1986!

    There are some games it's hard to go back if you haven't played those back in the day, due to mechanics or simply because of your game tastes have been spoiled for other more modern games, and so on.
    I play RPGs mostly and some are really thug to engage nowadays and keep hold of my attention for 20/30 plus hours on when there are plenty other games in the backlog to burn thru.
    One gotta keep a delicate balance to stick with.

    Those NES titles while being regarded as classics, even though I have beaten them, are pretty much excusable for not playing or completing. The Zelda titles were considered massive when they dropped on us, but most of the elements of those games have been carried over into other games of the series. I feel that only those who like to be brutally challenged by NES games should play them, especially if going without a walkthrough. Super Mario 64, yeah classic too, have beaten the game, but have never gotten every Star on both N64 and DS. Just never really felt like the reward for the collectathon was worth it. I have always felt that one should definitely be playing what they enjoy, and need not worry about what every one else plays.

    I recommend Super Mario 64 DS on a 3DS. its just the form factor that makes you more likely to pick it up again any time anywhere. The lower resolution seems to fit the smaller screen better and playing as different characters gives it some variety, instead of itsa me mario, again.
    I am trying to play thru it on switch 3d all star - the n64 online one is way worse. I am distracted by many other games on the switch but i made it past the upper door, so I might also finish this version eventually.

      I picked up Mario 64 years ago, but I've actually played it. I probably will pop it in! Thanks for the advice!
      I didn't spring for the Expansion Pack on the Switch. If they fix some issues, I'll definitely buy in. Until then, I'll either play the ports/remakes or the originals on their respective hardware.

    LOL - same here. So many games on this list mentioned and on the BRoll that I have purchased & started multiple time and never finished. I did however force myself to beat Super Mario 64 on the N64 prior to attempting it on the Switch’s 3D collection (small steps)- Currently attempting to finish some key games from the GBA, PS1, PS2 and OG XBox collections that I never managed to finish regardless of how many times I attempted to do so previously…let’s just say the latest releases on the Switch/ PS4/ PS5, XBox One/ Series X are not helping the backlog.

    Though I will admit that this is 100% because of nostalgia. I've never finished a Metroid game, so I'm going through the entire back catalogue (or at least the first 4 mainline games) before playing Dread. I'm also playing them on the original hardware on my Sony Trinitron, and luckily the Japanese version of Super Metroid is exactly the same as the US one, so I'll save a chunk of cash there.

    For me, the games that stand out are most of the Zelda ones. I adore BotW and played it for over a hundred hours (beat it, obviously). But I don’t know what it is, I’ve tried OoT many times and never stuck with it, Minish Cap (which I loved) I just never finished, Link Between Worlds (same as MC, I loved it but didn’t finish), and Wind Waker (loved the art style, but didn’t click with it).
    Very weird, since I normally finish every game. The Zelda series just doesn’t work for me, I guess.

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  2 года назад

      I relate to this so much! There was a time where I just couldn't connect to most Zelda games. The only ones I truly liked to play were Link's Awakening and A Link Between Worlds. All the other just seemed to cryptic and a little overwhelming. Also the controls were a little off. Like how Link jumps by himself in OOT. But that all changed when I played OOT on the 3DS. That version of the game really turned things around for me. I went back and played through A Link to the Past, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and the Oracle games. There are still a few that I haven't played for finished like Majora's Mask, Skyward Sword, Zelda 1 and Zelda 2. I think it takes a change in perception when playing Zelda games. BOTW was an absolute joy to play through! I can't wait for the sequel.
      Also, have you checked out my video about Rist Peninsula in real life from Breath of the Wild. It's probably my favorite video I've ever made.

    The levels where you play as an animal rather than the two kongs and the pacing completely ruin the experience of playing the game. If you could play a mod of just the kong levels then sure I'd say do it but otherwise you can play just the first set of levels and leave the rest of the game alone.
