Looks really nice, just a minor correction however. The "gunpods" on the belly of the aircraft are in fact conformal fuel tanks. They were fitted from the FAW.5 Javelin onwards owed to the aircrafts short legs. The main armament was 4x 30mm Aden cannons in the wings, supplemented by the Firestreak missiles, wouldn't have liked to be in the crosshairs of one of a Javelin that's for sure!
It was a pretty reliable aircraft. I flew Javs with several RAF squadrons in the 60s. Take a look...www.amazon.co.uk/Out-Thin-Air-Allen-Murray-ebook/dp/B06Y28D44P/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=allen+murray&qid=1604818867&sr=8-1
Thanks for this series Dan. I've got this kit and have been itching to start it but it's great to have a detailed look into how it actually goes together with hints to improve the build as well as seeing any potential problem areas.
Did this plane ever see combat? Or was it one of those exceptional designs that were in the wrong place wrong time category and just withered on the vine? This thing looks like a very robust aircraft, and I was wondering how it held up to battle damage.
It came very close indeed! I flew Javelins in Germany during the 1962 Cuba missile crisis and we had 11 out of the squadron fully armed with live Firestreaks on 2 minute readiness. Thanks to JFK, we didn't have to go but it was a knife edge. In UK we had loads of intercepts with the Bears over the North Sea.
Hey the flashlight trick is brilliant. That would have saved me from a few times I forgot to drill the holes in a kit.
Great progress and looking really good so far. Keep up the good work, looking forward to more episodes. Thanks and take good care.
Good video, Dan. Makes me want to build a jet. 🤗

Looking pretty good Dan. Have a great day.
Thanks, you too!
Good build discussion, its a fascinating type that certainly had its share of issues in service.
