My. Dad was an opera lover. He always had it on the radio and also records. At the time I was only slightly interested in it. I watched this performance with my dad and of course saw and heard Pavarotti for the first time. Well I was instantly transformed. I was 21 at the time and became an instant opera fan and have been ever since. I realized what I witnessed was an incredible art form that so few people can master. It has everything. Fabulous music written by musical geniuses. Vocal athletasism coriography and amazing staging. There is lots of forms of fine musical entertainment but nothing comes close to opera in my opinion anyway.
Love of opera often is passed down from generation to generation; it leads to a family connection legacy for the love of Art, as comforting memories start to exist nestled in between the notes of the music themselves. I feel that way myself, anyway. 🎵
🎶I think Scotto/Pavarotti are the defining Mimi & Rodolfo, because i saw this same Special as a child. I have never again seen those 2 roles performed that equal the Scotto/Pavarotti duet in chemistry, voice, & acting. To me, when i picture Mimi & Rodolfo….ohhh…but i see only their faces; they became ✨Master Puccini’s✨ “La Boheme”. Thank you for posting such a warm memory. 🎶 **The entire cast performing in this production here define their respective roles in this opera in the most extraordinary ways-nobody did it better than they did.**
Pavarotti in forma strepitosa ed all'apice della sua carriera! Wixell, poi, un Marcello straordinario, cantante troppo sottovalutato. Che dire poi della Scotto e Paul Plischka.
I remember watching this performance on PBS as a Great Performance telecast. It was the first of many during the 70s and 80s. This was one of the best casts assembled.

Sir Thomas Beecham conducting Victoria De La Angeles, Jussi Beorling, Robert Merril, 1953 recording is the definitive recording by critics.
Great performance. I saw so many great operas at that time. Sadly the Met has really deteriorated.
R.I.P Renata Scotto. You will be greatly missed. 😢
Mamma mia serate cosi non ci sono più.
Lucianone splendido Do.
Grazie, grazie

The great Italo Tajo as Benoît! ❤
The role of Alcondoro was written for a buffo bass, but in this production, character tenor Andrea Velis sings the role.
Te amo ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤
Non riesco ad ascoltare nessun Rodolfo che non sia Pavarotti
