  • In this 1944 wartime recording, Squadron Leader Joseph Berry, DFC & Two Bars, describes how RAF pilots shot down V1 flying bombs during WWII. Berry, a V1 ace, shot down 60 flying bombs in the war.

    He doesn't sound as brash and confident as I expected. I thought it was an older humble man talking in the recording.

      It’s incredible how proper and mature he sounded. He was just 23 when this was recorded.

    Why is it that Google calls doodlebugs buzz-bombs?
    I'm British and I call doodlebugs well Doodlebugs.

      RAF slang for the V1 was Doodlebug, but they had a variety of names
